Sitting on the fence of another question no less.

I'll use the old gumball example where there is large jar full of gumballs or marbles....

    2.jpg.c9649f82c90af4fdea62c59e261ef77a.jpg

Theism is the claim that an intervening god exists so in this example it is the claim that there is an even number of gumballs in the jar. Atheism is the rejection of the claim which in this example is not believing the claim of knowledge that there is an even number of gumballs in the jar. Many people, sadly, consider atheism to be a claim itself that there is an odd number of gumballs in the jar. This very simple but often misunderstood piece of logic should be asked of any person due to serve on a jury because it means the person does not understand the difference between 'guilty or not guilty' and 'guilty or innocent' or basic logic for that matter. To state that atheism is a claim or assertion that no god exists is patently foolish and sadly widespread.

That’s silly.... but I’m all for applying it to jury duty selection as I would never have to serve

I don't disagree in general with your post, but are you sure that there is only 1 truth, and that you (or science) know it ?

No.... but I do believe that science has a better chance of explaining the currently unexplainable, than (blind) adherence to any religious philosophy.

And.... i suppose that if there is a god, an ever growing number of us will be in for a big surprise come “judgement day”... but then again, if one leads a good life, regardless of faith, or lack thereof, one should still be worthy of “eternal paradise”, especially so if it’s true that a repentant serial killer can find forgiveness in confession, and be granted admittance, as after all, religious adherence is supposed to ensure we lead a good life, consistent with the teachings of that religion... unless the egotistical demands of the god/s that it/ they be worshipped is all important, which kind of detracts from the supposed benevolence of a god.... and makes the other requirements of leading a good life redundant.

So the first experience, was it a miracle or a coincidence

The second experience - well what can you call it, I don't know.

    Superstition I believe

Children can see realities invisible to adults, unless you think they are all liars.

Children will manifest an alternative reality dependent on the input provided by their authority figures, which is why the church (any/all) wants to get at them while they are young

they aren’t necessarily lying (eg... for attention), but rather, repeating a learnt untruth.

The bogeyman, god or Freddy Kruger, are examples of fantastical retribution used to control folk.... don’t go down to the woods tonight, your in for a big surprise ( esp if the picnicking bear is a damn koala... viscous buggers)

I found it quite scary. I saw a long black tunnel with a purple horseman on a purple horse at the end of it. Apparently, a common phenomenon related to the brain being starved of oxygen. After that nothing, nada, zilch, carked.

My less than perfect intuition tells me that both are true, but we are wired, or trained to see the reality in 3 dimensions, and it's logical to think that there are more than 3.

Apparently there’s is now a 5D porn cinema in holland.... so it seems your right.

  6. From what I have read.... the subfloor needs to be really well prepared... i note from your op that you’ve worked the floor already, but this does need to be very flat to avoid small distortions that might make your floating floor joints lift... there are several diy videos on this subject on utube that might help.... good luck.

If you worked your lifetime and don't 800k THB, i guess you <deleted> up.

If you then blame the youth for your <deleted> while retirees used fake income statements for years then you shouldn't complain that people are getting annoyed about reading the same shit all over again.

What i have done to become angry is quite clear, i've read the statement from the topic starter.

Gazza was having a poke at romance scammers and folk working illegally..... if that set you off, you are either a scammer or illegal... or in need of mental health medication.

and.... how do you get to the conclusion that anyone, specifically, was  using fake income statements, when the hoo ha is about changes to requirements and how they effect existing retirees, by requiring them to tie up more off their money.

and... what if, after working a lifetime, a retiree has 1million usd tied up long term, and can only access a pre arranged stipend, whilst juggling unexpected and unwarranted changes to the immigration rules

and.... how about giving greater consideration to grandfathering in changes

and... well... there are a lot of ways to approach this, but I would suggest that you avoid immigration threads that discuss retiree requirements, if it makes you angry to read comments made by retirees about retirement visas.... that’s probably the best way forward for you.... or large doses of Valium.

Surely anybody living here would have a slush fund of at least 400,000 Baht in a bank account. If not, then you must be struggling.

Of course, once they use the 400,000k baht that they surely had in a slush fund, they won’t have a slush fund for future unforeseen incidents

oh... sorry.... that’s what the other slush funds are for.... stupid me.

  10. Lol... as I’m sitting beside the pool, or in a restaurant, enjoying a meal or beverage, my BP is being managed perfectly.

but it your really worried about being in a “safe environment” then perhaps you should rethink any obsession you may have with your air conditioner, and get yourself a UV light... that will tell you the truth about your health safety, moreso than a dusty air con filter

or better, for a really scary wake up to your safety in a hotel etc.... get one of these...

So you would not pick up broken glass that you happen upon on a beach because it is not your 'job' is basically what you are saying and happy to breath in potential stale air from dirty AC filters for same reason? Well thats good for you

That’s not what I’m actually saying at all.

i would look....  and call the front desk and tell them to sort it.... it’s their duty and job.... then slam the poo out of them if I was still I satisfied.

i usually book via TripAdvisor, and despite their no refund policy ( by them as a booking agent vs accommodation provider... ) I have previously forced a refund from them, to be applied to the hotel next door, which was of a better standard, (similar cost) given I book on the strength of their website

as to glass on the beach.... I treat it like beached poop, and avoid it, favoring pools with hot and cold running berverage servers.

obviously we look for different things in our holiday choices, and have different expectations in those choices. Me... I look for a relaxing get away from work (not my job) free from everyday stress ( like stepping around broken glass and poop)... but maybe that’s just me.

Whats your reply got to do with the price of fish to my post...?

Key words are ' couple few mins' personally I don't like breathing in crap. No I don't go down the beach picking up trash? I do however pick up broken glass when I see it on the beach FYI but then thats just being a decent responsible human being

Ah... perhaps that your doing a job that the thai business should be doing as providing you with a satisfactory room to stay in, having taken your money, but that they are too lazy, careless or inconsiderate

similarly, this same trait is shown in the management of one of the nation’s supposed main tourist attractions... it’s beachs, which should be clean safe and useable ( like your air conditioner)... but is/ are not (like your air conditioner)

and i see that the answer to the question was yes. You do similarly spend “a few minutes” ( as per AC issues) picking up rubbish “ broken glass”.... Good for you lokie ? better for thailand.

Couple of mins to clean out the filters, as said something to stand on and the bum gun or shower to clean them out, I then give the filters a good squirt of air freshener/fabreeze slot em back in and jobs a good un'

And do you then go down to the beach and start picking up trash?

  14. 2 hours ago, SooKee said:

Indeed!! Bizarre! Literally a 30 second job to lift up the filter cover and check if it's clogged with dust and crap. If it is, couple of minutes to hose them clean. I seriously couldn't be asked to involve hotel maintenance in that. It's about as difficult as changing a light bulb.

In all honesty I'm more bothered about the accumulated germs etc than the impact on cooling. Unless they are REALLY bad the AC unit will still cool, just less efficiently, it'll burn more electricity to reach the desired thermo setting. If there's no muck (VERY rare, regardless of the room rate) at least that's one thing eliminated if the AC is crap. In which case likely a gas leak, failed compressor or a faulty unit.

Do not ever mess with anything electrical in this country, or you may end up dead

But it’s not too short to call the desk, hang around waiting for someone to show up, wait for them to figure out they don’t know what’s wrong, wait for them to arrange another room, and then pack your crap and wait for them to come and move you to your new room which could have the same problem.

    Yeah, big time-saver that.

    You guys crack me up.

Lol.... or book a room with the facilities you want... then get messed around because they aren’t providing what your paying for... fraud... some complain, some accept it... not good enough

if I rent a car... I expect it to be roadworthy... if I rent a room, I expect that they provide what they advertise

thats fair... and not hard... esp given that they are charging you for the things that are not working, despite being included

Several postings everyday about people losing it in a land of 70,000,000 is hardly a judgement on the entire country but ... mai pen rai.

It’s not the “loosing it” that’s the issue... it’s the lack of give a damn that goes along with pointing out deficiencies that the next and next and next person gets shafted with, that’s the issue

trapped audience... thanks for the money... stuff your opinion... complain publically and we will sue you

Have to say that’s something I have never thought of but a good point I was only thinking of the performance issue.

Remember many  years ago of a problem with Legionares Disease in Australia I think they tracked it down to the cooling towers? In some commercial air con  units in shopping centers or similar.

Not really an issue here as most all ac is room type, vs water cooling... thank goodness... because maintenance is not a strength in thai thinking... if it ain’t broke, dont muck with it, seems the go.... unfortunately, their opinion of broke, differs significantly from the reality

edit... if you have pre paid, it’s harder to action.... although stamping ones feet in reception until action is forthcoming, can work, esp whilst others are checking in.. lol... this also worked well for me in Denver.

There was some scumbag Brit in front of the Corner Bar today who started taking peoples hats from them and wearing them. That didn't go over well.  Then he started stopping scooters turning off the engines and calling on the crowd to throw water at them.  This went on for a good while.  Then he started stopping scooters, turning the engine off and taking the keys out.  There were some very pissed off people then.  I decided to leave at that point.  Low life scumbag...

lol.... that’s the time to start taking videos, not run away.
