That is the best explanation I have heard. However here in my village there are about 30 homes and upwards of 10 of them are owned by "companies" The people who have the company are living in the homes and have for years. One man has two homes. He rents one out and lives in the other. The others strictly live in the home. One man has a Thai girlfriend so I suppose that could be the other shareholder" The other two, one is Lebanese and he has a Russian Wife. The other is a single man, who is is Moroccan but a French citizen. The latter two for sure don't sound like the description of companies legally allowed to own land since they don't engage in the rental of the home. Another home is an absentee owner has not lived here for years. He and his wife are both Chinese.
I Think you have already your answer
Good luck ????

I don't know if you have a GF or a wife, so, sorry if I'm mistaken
What I remember from an ex GF 10 years ago, when she ask me to build house in village and I told her I didn't want because I cannot own the land, she told me that can make an agreement for "usufruct" in my name and can be last for lifetime.
I found this on the web: https://www.thaiembassy.com/property/usufruct-in-thailand
Maybe can try this way instead of risky company
Only for info, my story end before we buy the land (lucky man)

Italians in an Italian restaurant in Italy do not eat bread before, with or after their lunch and dinner.
Are you sure?
Every time I go in a restaurant or "trattoria" here in Milan (Italy), one of the first thing that the waitress put on the table with the menu is a basket of bread; one of my friend also like to eat it with pasta
Maybe you were sarcastic?

I can.... Italy - Journalist can be jailed for defamation for up to 6 years.
The Caribbean jail those found guilt of defamation.
The Key issue with Thailands defamation laws is not the penalties, but the flawed nature of the law itself i.e. the intention to defame a third party whether comments can be proven or not.
A lot of countries the defamation law is crime law with jail involved
In Europe, the only one that have in civil law are:
Bosnia
Ireland
UK
Norway
Romania
Serbia
All the other have criminal law
US is normally a civil law, but depends of each State
for example:
In South Korea, both true and false statements can be considered defamation. Any statement made with the intention to harm another person's reputation can be considered illegal, and those charged may face fines and/or imprisonment of up to seven years

On this one... 100% on Barne's side. If anyone tried to get me to pay a corking fee to fill my fridge in a hotel where I am staying they would get the middle finger salute. What's next? A corking fee for bottled water?
Well, i don't know if you not read the story or only you don't understand what happened.
If Mr. Barnes took the Gin bottle in his room and drink inside his room, will not be any corking fee
But Mr. Barnes took the Gin bottle inside the restaurant and want to drink while eating without paying the corking fee.
P.S. At the end he not pays the corking fee, because the manager say was ok, i think for no have more issue with a problematic customer
In Thailand, but also in USA, the corking fee is "normal" to pay
In any case, I agree that the defamation law must be only a civil issue, but in the majority of countries is a criminal law

I read a lot about this story and i made my opinion.
The only thing that I missing is if he comes back in USA he will go in jail for what he does in 2017?
If yes, my opinion of this man go to level 0

I believe that our countries ' foreign affair web sites should post warnings about the disproportionate risks of having a holiday in Thailand, people must be aware that a minor brain fart me destroy their lives.
......
Well, i think your foreign affair country need some pages about it, because the list of the countries where defamation is a criminal law is quite big.
I checked some and found that this page of wiki seems to be correct :https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defamation
He was lucky not be in south korea:
In South Korea, both true and false statements can be considered defamation. Any statement made with the intention to harm another person's reputation can be considered illegal, and those charged may face fines and/or imprisonment of up to seven years
I'm not a fan of this type of law, but also not a fan of fake review that can harm a business (not this case anyway, because i think the resort will be work good when borders will be open)

How many homeless you know that can go in holiday in Thailand?
People can pay 2000$ for flight+hotel+food for 2 week holyday, but cannot pay 70/100$ for insurance? I not feel bad for them, i feel more bad for the homeless in my country
