Some day I wish a nice looking Thai lady would say to me, "Is that a gun in your pocket or are you just glad to see me".

What's the name of the actress who said that? And the actor was? Some one out there please .....I need an answer. (I am short of neurons in my brain now to make the connection, that's what the doctor told me- after 60 everything is gone.)

  2. Our local Tesco Lotus in Bangchang has the annoying habit of running out on the basic items on mid day Saturdays, ie potatoes, carrots and onions. Last week I was so annoyed I called the manager and asked him about this happening almost every week and trying to explain that ordering enough stock means more sales and profits for the company. His dead pan faced reply was "shop early" This store is always running shelf stock down to nothing before reordering, it must be a Thai thing. we are hoping for a Big C opening one day to give this useless shop some competition. I now usually drive to Rayong for my shopping now, to a well stocked Big C and a Tops in the new Central shopping complex a good 1/12 hour round trip but worth it

  3. The last one I did from Pattaya the driver was going at crazy speed, a young American guy (ex military) made the driver stop and told him if he continues to drive like that he was going to get dumped off  the bus in the middle of nowhere and the he would drive the bus back to Pattaya. The Thai driver had no one to back him up as we all agreed with the American. Result a very pleasant drive back to Pattaya and a very scared and pissed off driver.

I am glad that the war has resolved itself in Aleppo. I don't like Assad and all he stands for, but it is the rebels that have caused all of the problems and now they have been pushed out, peace should return in Aleppo. Putin shows yet again that he is the most powerful and influential person in the world. He is very astute and extremely skillful when it comes to politics and strategy. On the world stage there is no one who comes even close. I am not surprised at his (86%) popularity ratings!!

Gone are the days of "when America sneezes the world gets a cold"

Assad was elected by the people with a 80% vote, the rebels are muslim extremist connected to Isis

    Don't buy a house

    Don't get married

Two resolutions that solve 99% of your problems in Thailand.

I bought the condo in my name, the car in my name, never married her and the only thing in her name is the TOT bill. I would never by a house in Thailand I hate barking dogs at night

  6. The scum bag terrorist shouting his gods name used a car and a machete type knife to run down and stab and slash students, no gun . A good guy a young cop with a gun put a stop to the savage attack and put the attacker down permanently and saved the State the cost of a trial and prison accommodation . As usual the left media reported it as a gun rampage. Without the good guy with the gun who knows how many innocent people would have been killed or wounded.

  7. I have friends who own the new phones these things are so big now they do not fit into the average pocket comfortably when sitting so they are forever leaving the stupid things around. Why do you need to carry a mini computer around with you all day is beyond me. For me a mobile phone is for making calls receiving calls and texts ( I never text) and sits easily in my pocket.

AdiP ... sorry to read about your problem, and unfortunately I don't have a solution for you in this case, however, below is a suggestion for anyone potentially looking to rent a place long term, and paying a substantial refundable deposit.

Back in my home country many years ago, I rented a nice 3 bedroom suburban home. Long term 1 year x 1 year etc.

Prior to signing the lease, the agent had a very comprehensive checklist for the entire house. We spent maybe 2 hours wandering through the place, carefully ticking off the checklist, carefully noting the condition of beds, curtains, floor coverings, furniture, wall paint, inventory of pots pans cutlery etc. Anything with imperfections, stains, etc was also carefully noted.

The condition of outside gardens, lawns, sheds etc were also noted on the checklist. Many photos were taken.

Two copies were made of this checklist, both signed by the agent and myself. Agent kept 1 copy, I kept 1 copy.

When I finally moved out couple of years later, agent came around for final inspection. Again, she wandered slowly through each room, comparing what she saw, with what was on the 2yo checklist. Result .... 100% deposit refund.

I know it's a bit of a tedious hassle to do this checklist initially, but it's really the only way of proving "your word against the agent/owner" if problems arise at lease termination .... as has unfortunately happened to AdiP

If you rent a car, they will show you the dents, scratches etc and ask you to sign a doc. We really should do the same when renting a house, but not many people do.

I did the same thing when my son first rented, when he moved out they tried to deduct for broken floor tiles  and paint damage to the bathroom door, but the photos proved it was previous damage. so good advice from "electric" for everybody signing leases

  9. I did my retirement extension in A put ( Mat Aput ) yesterday, no letter from bank asked for, just Australian embassy income confirmation letter and I handed in my bank books updated on the day. I was 8 days late due to sickness and had to pay a 4000 bt fine other than filling in forms and supplying photo all went well. Was not asked to fill the personal details form that was about a month ago. A friend who was there at the same time was trying to get his first retirement visa and was told he had to get his income letter translated into Thai and stamped at the Immigration in Bangkok, they told him this was a new order.

revolvers are almost 100% reliable as long as the ammo in them is good. it is autos that jam. not sure which one it was but normally .357 are revolvers

As you state the 357 are rimmed revolver rounds, the 38 super is a rimless semi auto round, it makes more sense as the revolver rarely misfires and has no safety and the semi auto do tend to misfire and people do forget to release the safety

  11. Ban Chang is like most places,it has it's positives and unfortunately it's negative side. The Beach for the most part resembles a rubbish dump, the one exemption is at the end of Palu beach, were the restauanteur works hard at keeping it clean, and this is where you will find that most Farangs and their families go.

There are a few gyms, probably the best is at a mo Bahn just north of sukhumvit road.

Plenty of golf courses for those who are not into exercise.

A soi for the overweight and passed it bar girl.

Some decent restaurants, Though not the choice as in Pattaya and elsewhere .

Plenty of reasonably priced houses for rent.

For shopping, Ban Chang has probably the worst Tesco in Thailand. This means that most Farangs travel to Pattaya, approx 45k or to Rayong approx 30k, to purchase their provisions. Both of these towns can also boast decent shopping malls. Unfortunately Pattaya traffic is usually grid locked.

As others have said there are quite a few Farangs in this district, mostly off shore workers, those employed at Mataput or retirees. Not so many foreign tourist.

You have probably made the correct decision to visit and get a feel of the place, one person may like while another will not.

I lived in Bang Chang for two years, I left because of the pollution coming from the industrial area.

The bar strip is full of women that were kicked out of Pattaya for being so ugly.

    The beaches are filthy.

It is the worst Tesco in Thailand.

What a lot of <deleted> I have lived here for 3 years and the Navy beach is clean and the water quality superb the Bar strip is busy with some of the most lovely girls in Thailand great pub called the Camel with great falang and Thai food, Ban Chang is the next place to boom unfortunately but a great place to invest you can still buy a beach front 45sq condo for under 1 million, I bought 3x 45s and merged them to make a 135sqm two bedroom two bathroom on the 4th floor with absolute sea view that cannot be built out for 2 million. In 3 years living here we have still not tried all the eateries there are so many

    Very good advice.
