  1. I think people the world over should be allowed to go about their business without getting their face smashed in by some crazy scumbag..

The police, whether Juliet Bravo, SomChai, Poon, Dixon, Harry or what ever they are called should be upholding the law of the land, not upholding the rights of those that want to cause harm to others. .

Not much to ask is it ..

Does that make me "middle class" or silly?

In general you are right but in this case someone wasn't "going about their business", he was giving the finger to a local in a bar. Your description "crazy scumbag" could probably be applied to him also.

According to the girl's story (which, remember, was actually the story related by the drunk lad who flipped-off the female bar tender, the girl did not witness the initial event) the police did uphold the law, she said the attacker was fined 10,000 baht. What part of that is upholding the rights of those who want to harm others?

So you are justifying smashing someone's face in for "flipping a finger" -- really

A hand gesture deserves an attack by multiple people - stamping the man into the ground - but hey that's ok a the law is upheld with a 10,000 baht fine ?

Do you not see anything wrong here?

I wonder if you'll be so supportive when it's was your child or your face, or your lovers face that is being smashed in.

So you think that a drunk giving the finger to a woman doing her job is acceptable? Really? Do you have any idea of anything else that lad may have done besides giving her the finger?

I'm supporting no-one and justifying nothing, I am saying that giving the finger is offensive and invites retribution and it certainly is not "going about one's business" as you state.

By the way, there's a picture of him somewhere and his face clearly wasn't "smashed in" as you over-dramatically describe it.

  2. She said private bus operators still have to shoulder high operation cost such as maintenance cost, falling number of customers of up to 60-70%, and people turning to drive by themselves, and to low cost airlines.

What higher operation costs? Maintenance? cheesy.gif

The rest of it is typical Thai logic. How do you account for customers finding cheaper, safer, more reliable alternatives? Raise the price, of course.

God knows what kind of logic you use but they're not increasing prices.

  3. No such thing in Thailand. If for a home country requirement, get your embassy/consulate to do it; if for Thai use, ask your counterparty what would be acceptable.

    "No such thing in Thailand."

    Nonsense.

Interactive Associates in Pacific Place (Nana BTS) provide a notary service, there's a company on the ground floor of The Trendy, Soi 13, that will do it, there is a lawyers satellite office on Nana BTS station near the Soi 7 exit who can notarise documents, Tilleke and Gibbins will do it. There are many places.

  4. You do know that mis-matched paint on a repair is nothing to do with it being either a Fortuner or a Toyota? It's all to do with the person who mixed and applied the paint. That could have happened with any of your other 200 cars.

What prompted you to have the bumper painted, presumably it had been damaged? Perhaps that has something to do with the panel gap and is not the fault of it being a Fortuner.

  5. I found this report on Rachael Gissing's facebook page, shes the one that organized the appeal for funds to get Luke back home:

This report was just before Luke's untimely death and is dated 27th Dec 2015

    I rest my case

She seems like a silly middle class girl who thinks she can travel to 3rd world countries and enjoy the lawlessness and then when things get ugly thinks the police are going to act like Juliet Bravo.

  6. Isn't it strange that not one person who would actually be in a position to dispute the only version of events that has been reported, not one, has said anything?

Not one of the family and friends who are banging on about "justice" and "finding out what really happened" have made any indication of what the alternative sequence of events may have been. Not one.

Perhaps they know, not like the over-excitable ThaiVisa speculators having a field day based on nothing at all, that a drunk man drowned, accidentally?

  7. Been lots of posts here on Thaivisa about whether an IDP is required here in Thailand. I've always thought an IDP is a legal requirement, others disagree and say the home DL is legal enough. This new directive seems to clear up ths now old debate.

It doesn't clear up that debate, this is the Vice Governor of Phuket decreeing what will be required for those renting vehicles in Phuket, not the whole of Thailand.

  8. Confusing that the police takes orders from a local governor.

Maybe some clean up of the organization could be in order.

Then maybe cops can work without waiting for the daily mode of the local governor.

The police are not "taking orders" from the Governor, he just made the announcement about the campaign. The report clearly states that the district offices are working in collaboration with the police.

  9. They have a website inviting tourists to send in any inquiries. So I asked a simple question about the concerts, no answer a week later, hopeless.

Why not the site was in English and the enquiry form also, probably a bit much to expect a proper reply. I already knew the answer anyway today Nong Poawalee tomorrow Ying Lee and Friday Got Jakapan

So you just thought that you'd waste their time and yours asking a question that you already knew the answer to just for the hell of it and then bang on about what idiots they are?

  10. . . . the contract does not provide proper safeguards against doctors working dangerously long hours. . . .The union is planning another 48-hour stoppage later this month and a full withdrawal of labour, including emergency care, for nine hours on Feb. 10.

So, it's necessary to kill the patients in order to save them?

Obviously, it's not. Do you think that the entire NHS medical staff consists of junior doctors?

  11. And when did he start doing this service? Was it before or after the drunk cabbie punched the copper or the cabbie that robbed and possibly assulted the American woman last week. If before good on him. If after, than it's simply a deflection. If he received an award last year for his good deeds why was it not newsworthy then, but all of a sudden newsworthy.

It doesn't matter when he started offering free rides, that is an irrelevance as is the rest of your post.

His award last year did make the press, you just claim not to have seen it in order to have a go at him. Why?

  12. At what point is enough actually enough? Having them on pictures and videos brandishing knives, guns, and generally partaking in criminality are all too common.

Prayuth is wanting to ban double deckers, but its quite clear these vehicles are much more deadly with such bona fide nutters behind the wheel being the norm. Pathetic if this 1 is just another 500b fine job

"Just another 500 baht fine job"? Another? Have there been others that you could point out for similar offences or are you just promulgating the ThaiVisa "500 baht fine for everything" urban myth?

  13. I thought this case was dismissed, I was obviously mistaken. Not sure the Thai government

understands that continuing this case only shines a light on Thai company infractions in

business practices. Slavery and child labour are frowned on in the EU and North America.

Things may move slowly but Thailand should not be surprised when Thai imports of fruit

and fish/shrimp are banned in Europe and North America. whistling.gif

This case was not instigated by the government, a private company is suing Hall.

  14. Thinking out loud via keyboard ....couldn't he leave via the UK embassy under diplomatic cover/PP (re)issue - if they assisted? Once in there he's in UK territory.....

He doesn't want to leave, he's voluntarily here fighting a case brought against him and surrendering his passport was a condition of bail.

If he wanted to leave Thailand he could have done so before appearing in court to apply for bail.

And, no, the British Embassy does not arrange for individuals involved in legal cases to be given a Diplomatic post and a DP in order to escape from legal charges.

  15. Ryan ... the guy selling it said it was good ... is the viscosity range of that oil similar to what is recommended for your swift and the oil is for a gasoline engine and not a diesel. It pays to be careful and for modern high stressed turbo engines use what the manuf says, is prudent.

Has he changed the standard engine for a highly stressed turbo unit?

  16. Falken are excellent tyres with a good reputation, you should not hesitate to buy Falkens if they're in the size that you want.

Falken 20s are unlikely to be any noisier than other comparable tyres. High-end tyres such as Michelin or Pirelli may be a little quieter but you probably couldn't notice the difference.

  17. cab drivers hate going to some places. if you're going to say central world for example or makkasan forget it.

that's true, here is the trick, if you able to talk a bit of Thai, and know a place near where you wanted to go then tell them that place instead, coz taxis might not know and then you tell them the direction. with this trick you might be able to catch taxi easier.

another notice, between the old driver and the young driver, my suggestion is go for the young one coz they are not yet experienced and will go everywhere you told them.

Now we know that you don't really know any more about Thai taxi drivers than we do! Since when do taxis accept fares when they don't know the destination? What a trick.

You are also suggesting that when we stop a taxi we should check his appearance to ascertain our interpretation of his age before we tell him where to go because you think that the old drivers are likely to be problematic? Another great trick.

Here's a trick for you to remember, you have started to substitute "coz" for "because" on a number of occasions, stop doing this as it lowers the tone of your posts unlike the excellent use of your scathing sarcasm in post #40 where you apologised for not making your English understandable enough.

    Keep up the good work.

  18. First of all, Thank you so much for every comments. and secondly i would like to apologize everyone if my written English is not understandable somehow.

Here I would like to clarify to everyone, i'm a taxi driver, i got into this job about 2 years ago, my father bought a second hand taxi and i first started helping him out when i finished my daytime job. then I got my driving licence for taxi on 12 Feb 2014. after that i fully work as a taxi driver and quit my daytime job.

my background is i from a small farming family from Northeastern of Thailand, Yasothon province, i did a lot of hard work in the past because we were poor, do farming just for a living. then when i got out off school,, i was granted to study in Holland for my Bachelor degree. that was when i really started learning English.

after i graduated, i started working with many international companies and finally quit. indeed i working on many things and one of this is taxi driver.

i respect everyone and just wanted to clarify every thing that you all curious about. so you can ask me anything that you wanted to know. some information i might not be able to give right here because i also don't know everyone well over here, even your profile some of you even don't put your own pic. never mind. i'm always nice to everyone. and again thank you so much for comment.....smile.pngsmile.pngbiggrin.png

No-one criticised your excellent English, some of us were, however, curious about the purpose of your OP which is still a bit of a mystery regardless of your desire to "clarify every thing". Perhaps you have found that posting here is a good way for you to practice your English?

One thing that you have confirmed though is that taxi driving must be a fairly lucrative occupation if you have given up positions with many international companies in order to do it.

What information re taxis could you possibly be withholding because you don't know us well enough and how would a picture on our posts help? If we used pictures of animals as our avatars as you are doing would you be able to tell us more?

  19. Guys don't get me wrong, i just wanted to share things that i believe it might be useful somehow for the foreigners, that's why i come to this forum.

Anyway just finished my final job today bringing a couple from Turkey to the airport. luckily they are on time. I believe many taxis refuse to bring them to the airport. the first question i heard from this couple is how much does it cost from here (Ekamai Bus Station) to the Don Meung Airport. then i told them will turn on the meter coz i also not sure how much exactly will it cost.....

Well that is riveting, you posted about doing what the vast majority of taxi drivers in Bangkok also do, you took someone on a journey and used the meter. So what? I got a taxi from Suan Luang to Lam Lu Ka on the meter as usual earlier this morning but I didn't start a thread about it as nobody would be interested.

How is sharing information about your uneventful last pickup of the day "useful somehow" to anyone? Perhaps you just want clicks on your blog for some reason?

I really can't work out where you're going with your posts. You can't be soliciting for business as you've given no way for you to be contacted. Why don't you do that, you never know "it might be useful somehow for the foreigners"? Why not post your taxi ID and registration number then we can keep an eye open for you?
