  1. I'm pretty sure most countries in the world allow you to hold a driver's licenec despite having epilepsy. (Including the countries of all the posters saying "she shouldn't be driving but TIT etc)

In the UK if you are epileptic you cannot drive unless you are on medication and that has prevented seizures for a certain period of time.

Different meds work on different people so there's a bit of trial and error. During that time you ain't driving.

    It's the same in Australia...wai.gif

  2. Before committing to use one of the independent shops, you might want to check with the Samsung service center near the North Gate. That will give you an idea of the upper bounds of what it should cost, and you might find that their price is not as high as one might expect from an authorized service center. They usually will give price estimates right on the spot and sometimes repair units the same day that they receive them.

    Yes, right on all accounts.

You might also find that the price from an authorised service centre is ridiculously high!!! I paid 1500 baht at KSK compared to the price to get it done by Samsung in Australia which was 5500 baht!!!

  3. Hi all,

we have a family member visiting shortly and would like to hire a songtaew for a few trips eg. Doi Suthep and Huay Tung Tao Lake, and even for a full day.

Can anyone recommend a driver with reasonable english and reasonable prices. Feel free to PM me if that is your preference.

    Thanks in advance. biggrin.pngbiggrin.pngbiggrin.png

  4. Even though her passport will be expiring before the end of the one year entry she will still be stamped in for a year.

The stamps can only be transferred here at an immigration office.

She can use both passports on entry to the country to use the re-entry permit in the old passport.

If that's the case then we don't have a problem.

We had been advised that immigration will only stamp until the expiry date of her passport. smile.pngsmile.png

When presenting at BKK immigration with the old and new passport will they do the transfer of information/stamps or do we do that as a separate exercise after we are back?

  5. Hello, we have a multi entry O-A visa issued 8-10-2015 and entered Thailand on 5th November, 2015.

We intend traveling around Asia and Europe this year and will return to Thailand in Sept 2016 for a month before returning to Australia.

Our problem is that my wife's passport expires 27-05-2017.
As I understand it, when we re-enter Thailand in September (which is before the expiry of our current visa - 7-10-16)
    - I will be granted another 12 months entry and
    - my wife will be granted entry until the expiry date of her passport ie. 27-05-2017.
On leaving Thailand in early October (before 7th Oct) we will arrange re-entry stamp (sorry if that is not the correct terminology) for us.
We plan to return to Thailand in March/April 2017. I will have my existing passport (with re-entry stamp) and my wife her new and old passport.
What I would like to know is if it possible to get the stamps from her old passport transferred to her new passport in Australia?
If not, would we be able to re-enter with her new and old passport and then get the stamps transferred on our return?
I know that the easiest way to avoid this problem is to get a new passport from the Australian Embassy in Bangkok whilst we are here but timing issues will probably prevent that.
Thanks in advance for any comments/advice.
  6. Firstly, thanks to you all for your input to my query.

Thought I'd report back on my experience. Made an appointment in late December with Ram Hospital and was scheduled for this morning (as Dr Vachiraporn was on leave).

Quick visit - very smooth registration process, Dr checked out my issue, thankfully it was just a Seborrheic Keratosis which is benign. Apparently, we get them as we age! I also asked about another skin problem on my toe. She identified it as a type of wart and applied 2 doses of liquid nitrogen. Sent me on my way (with a follow up appt if needed). Whole process took about 20 minutes. Cost - 820 baht

Conclusion - very happy with the whole process and outcome.

    Thanks again all. wai.gif

  7. No, you have a visa and don't have to do 90 day reports.

But the bad news is that if you leave on 7th Feb you will be on overstay which will cost you 500 THB per day

Wow, this is just totally wrong.

OP, yes you are required to do a 90 day report. Presuming you were stamped in for one year upon arrival (5 Nov 15 gets you stamped in until 5 Nov 16), you will NOT be on overstay.

It's been my experience that Immigration officials at the airport do not check for 90 day reports. Where you will run into problems by not doing the 90 day report is if you try to apply in the future for an extension of stay beyond the life of the visa at a local Immigration facility. That is when you will likely be discovered in violation of the requirement and fined 2,000 thb.

Since you can mail in the 90 day report, why not just do so?

I wasn't aware we could mail in the 90 day report. As this will be our first report is this possible?

  8. Lanna hospital is also very good, they have a skin specialist there ,went to see him with a suspect BCC, turned up at 12.30 consultation at 1pm biopsy done at 1.30. back in 5 days for results (all clear) total cost inclusive 4700 baht. good service friendly efficient staff. All in all a great hospital .

But what was wrong at RAM - did you have a bad experience there?

  9. Hello, I have yet to use the Thai health system and need some advice.

I have a small lump on my chest and would like to see a skin specialist just to eliminate the possibility of it being cancerous. I have had something similar removed from my calf some years ago.

What is the procedure for seeing such a specialist? Do you just go to the local hospital? Thanks in advance.
