One thing that may help is that Thais have been fanatical about safety precautions. The malls, busses, taxi's never stopped mask wearing, hand washing etc.. This will certainly put these theories to the test. I just wish they would be as fanatical about other things like driving, pollution etc..
That is pure rubbish, have you seen the packed Disco's, Gogos, Bars, GC, around Pattaya. No masks, no social distancing, no hand washing

I think even this government is hesitant to order a Nationwide Lockdown. Few places in the world that had multiple lockdowns have been “able to contain” the virus. I was wondering how do you contain a virus? The common cold is a virus and it has never been contained and certainly Influenza comes around every year and kills.
The only truly successful countries to actually contain in some ways have been Taiwan and New Zealand. Both countries are island nations and do not have land borders.
One can only assess based upon the published numbers(if you believe them or not) and the current numbers do not support a nationwide lockdown.
The economy is on life support and a nationwide lockdown even for a month could be the death blow.
When I traveled in the past I often used the McDonalds and Starbucks index to see how the local economy was.
I went into a Starbucks the yesterday at 1030 and I was the only customer there and it was kind of weird as I drank my green tea latte. Also, I went into a local McDonald for my annual pancakes(for some reason I like McD pancakes) and eggs and i was the only customer for 45 minutes. I have never experienced solo dining in either place.
Never heard of Australia?

Yep.Plus Australia has extended until 17th of March "State of emergency" B.S. so no one's getting out of here until then.Unless you're connected like Abbott,Pedo Pell, etc.
Don't forget Downer. You can get an exemption if you're going for 3 months but don't expect to get any help/advice from the idiots at Border Force

"They face 2,000 baht fines for contravening immigration requirements. But face much more serious sanction for breaking emergency decree laws and Covid specific health requirements. These are 2 years jail and up to 40,000 baht and 1 year jail and up to 100,000 baht fine respectively for the two more serious charges."Thats laughable when you see FB videos posted of WS establishments ie. Pin-Up and Insomnia, the majority of bars and GC's where no social distancing or mask wearing is to be seen, apart from some staff members

Unfortunately they have to keep adjusting their response as quite a few countries have weak inept governments, with politicians playing politics and populations full of Karens that won’t cooperate with even simple rules to end this which has resulted in this being a never ending disaster.
UK, France and Germany back under lockdown, the US recording nearly 100,000 new infections daily. Idiotic.
Infections and deaths worldwide are steadily rising, not improving. When this is finally over I reckon Thailand will see a quicker recovery than most places because they have proved themselves to be competent in handling it. And they deserve it.
Do you know that people who die outside of Hospitals in Thailand don't have autopsies. The nominated person talks to the family about the symptoms and puts that on the paperwork. How do you know how many have died of respiratory problems related to Covid-19 if there is no autopsies and a small percentage of tests being done?

And when can retirement non immigrant O visa holders issued by a consulate come to Thailand? Most of them are condo owners and travel every winter for 3-6 months to their second home. They bring in money.
If you look on the Royal Thai Embassy website in America, Australia and others, you will see that you can apply for an O-A Visa right now, and in Australia also a Tourist Visa

But short time tourists will not like to take a flight anymore , too risky , and , if they have to quarantine and most entertainment venues closed , it becomes much less attractive to holiday in Thailand ...
Cruise ships welcome again ...? That's risky , too .
They should not forget , if there is only one mayor Covid outbreak in Thailand because of letting potentially infected people in , they can definitely say good bye to tourists at all .
Only some long time stayers will still come ... better to make their stay attractive , because they spend money here ...
Did you know that every non Thai going to Thailand needs to be tested before boarding a plane, unlike Thai Citizens who are exempt. So who would be taking Covid-19 to Thailand, Foreigners or Thais????????

Foreigners already in the country are no security risk , in what concerns the virus , to Thailand .
They spend their money here , help the economy to recover ... , ( just a little bit , but ... ) and should be allowed to stay at least until they run out of cash ...
What about the ones working illegally, do you think they should be allowed to stay? Money needs to come from somewhere

Maybe they should let those here on Amnesty be the first people to have the Visa issued here in the country, as well as letting in all those whose Visa's and extensions of stay are still valid but are trapped outside.
Why, you've already had a free 6 months. That new Visa has to be applied for outside of Thailand. Go home and apply the same as everyone else!!

Would you mind me asking, how old was this guy?
I would imagine that most of those who die in hospital would be here on retirement, so, there is notionally 800,000 to be recovered right there, and possibly a house or condo too.
If it is the case that some of these deaths are young folks, possibly here on a work visa, education visa, or perhaps even tourists, well, okay, I'll reluctantly admit that there is some argument for insisting that everyone be insured. Before they put an additional burning tire on the neck of their tourist industry, however, they should be absolutely certain that this genuinely is a problem big enough to be worth crippling that income.
In fact, I would argue that, at the same time as introducing an insurance requirement, they should balance it out by getting rid of all short-term visas (tourism, education, volunteer, medical etc) and simply have an up to one year visa waiver for all countries eligible for the current visa waiver. You present your insurance cert, from any credible insurance company, and the IO stamps you in until the final date of your coverage. In a sense, your insurance becomes your visa.
You seem to forget about the Expats that go through Agents that pay Immigration. No Health Insurance, no 800,000 in the bank, and normally very little money. Then you have all the pretend bar managers and others on ED and Volunteer Visas that have no Insurance and very limited finances

Exactly, just look at the videos of Insomnia, Pin-Up, Flexx and many others. Packed at times, with no masks, no social distancing, and open all night. When an outbreak occurs in these places, they will shut the bars again, and it will serve them right. Where are the Police, oops, counting those brown envelopes

Typical keyboard warrior, making assertions without even knowing Adam. Let's see you take on 3 Thais with one hand!!. Considering Adam has damaged tendons from a plate glass door accident, rendering one hand useless, he came out of it ok

Don't forget, there are untold amounts of people living on the bones of their <deleted>, paying agents to usurp the financial requirements because they have no money, and no health insurance.
