Are you currently on a 90 day entry from your initial visa?

Or did you come in on a 90 day stamp, and subsequently extend your permission to stay?

From other posts in this thread it appears that in the first situation you may be in the clear. In the second situation maybe not.

Last time I left Thailand was May 2nd 2022 and came back May 17th 2022.

Right now in my passport it says, "Extension of stay permitted up to 15 Feb 2023" Signed by IO, 14 Feb 2022.

Looks like my initial visa was Feb 2020, so three years ago.

  2. My work permit expired mid December and I didn't want to keep teaching at the school I was at. I saw that my work visa/extension of stay was until Feb. 15 so I thought I could stay here until around this week and then leave the country and come back on a tourist visa until I found different work.

I told the school this and they never told me that I needed to leave the country before the work permit expired, I just found this out a few hours ago.

So how screwed am I? Is this considered a nearly 50 day overstay? My plan was to fly to Udon Thani this week and then get a tourist visa out of Vientiane with my girlfriend and have a mini holiday, but now after getting this new information I really don't know what to do. I don't have the money to pay for 50 days of overstay or have the money to fly to my home country right now if they force me to, i don't have that kind of money for a few weeks.

Has anyone been in this situation before and have any suggestions?

    Wally,

You on a short lease from immigration and you know it. You have been living in Thailand for ~3 years on various Ed and tourist visas. You were lucky for now, but coming back to Thailand again might not work. You need a better plan. Unfortunately the advice you get here might be based on past reality but the reality of today is not the same.

They know you are doing something to get money and immigration is not happy. I don't want to give you advice, because I have no experience. I only know that there have been many reports of rejection for "staying too long without the proper visa".

Don't blame the IO for your behaviors.

I didn't blame anyone for anything that has happened thus far, so not sure where you're getting that assumption from. I know I'm pushing the limits which is why I tried getting the Elite Visa but it didn't work out, so now I'm going with a different option. This is the last tourist visa that I'll get, I only got it in the first place because the Elite fell through and it was last minute decision, I have it handled from now on so I'm not looking for anymore advice.

Are those ED visas in your current passport as well? That would give you quite a long history visible to the consulate, probably mostly back to back?

When you came to Vietnam, did you head straight to the Thai consulate or spend some time out of Thailand first? The more it looks like a visa run, the worse it is in the current climate.

I agree that CNX is probably your safest bet, all things considered. To improve your chances, have everything they might ask for ready to show: Flight out within 30 days, cash (personally I'd take more than what's required), hotel reservations. If you can book a hotel in Chiang Mai for the first few nights, a Chiang Mai address on your arrival card would look better than a Phuket address. Best of luck to you!

I have the previous ED Visa on my passport right now but not the first one from Muay Thai.

I left Thailand August 8th and went to Brazil for a couple of weeks, then to USA, then to England, and then got into Vietnam on the 4th.

And sounds good, thanks for the suggestion on the hotel in Chiang Mai, I'll book that now.

When I have the cash on me do I just hand over all of that to the IO? Or should I wait to hand over cash if they ask, don't want it to look like I'm bribing or anything.

Flying in visa exempt would be very risky. Did you ask the consulate about getting a 30-day (non extendable) transit visa? The rules for that are different from those applied to tourist visas. Assuming you can get a transit visa, arrange to enter by land (perhaps, Vientiane to Nong Khai).

Hmm I didn't know this was an option, I already bought my ticket into Chiang Mai and now the consulate is closed until Monday so I wouldn't be able to ask unfortunately.

Unless you can get a refund of your 1000$ hotel booking, you will have to take your chances. Make sure you have enough cash, a confirmed outbound flight, and a print-out of your hotel bookings. Never flown in via Chiang Mai, but what has been reported on this forum, CM immigration is the most lenient. Then take a domestic flight down to Phuket. A new passport might help too, but I assume you won't have the time to apply for one. If Thai immigration ask about the void stamp, say that at the time of your visa application you didn't have enough cash on you and were therefore rejected, but that you have had cash transferred from your home country recently. Let us know how you did, and ignore the Thai immigration apologists that keep spouting off on this farang forum.

Hey thank you, this is exactly what I'm looking for. Yeah I've already spend around $2,500 on flights to Thailand, hotel, etc. So spending another few hundred to try to fly in is worth it even if there's a 1% chance I suppose.

This is the advice I was looking for, gonna go ahead and book my Chiang Mai flight. I'll update ya'll, thanks a lot.

  7. Basically I was naive to the tourist visa issue because before this I only had ED visas in my passport over the past couple of years. I stopped my education December of last year and got my first tourist visa by land crossing in February I believe, then I did a second land crossing 60 days later which is where I believe the issue is coming from.

Then I left the country for about 6 weeks and got a tourist visa issued in USA, came back in June and that's when they pulled me at immigration and grilled me for a couple of hours and told me not to come back for 6 months.

So this year I have 2 land crossings (visa on arrival) and 1 tourist visa, now I have this voided tourist visa as well from today.

  8. Hey all. So on my last post a couple of months ago I wrote about having issues at BKK where they nearly made me buy a ticket straight back to USA but let me come in this time and said I can't come back for 6 months. I asked for advice on here and was told that they don't put anything in the system and next time just come into Thailand somewhere else.

I planned on an Elite Visa but was rejected because I have more than 1 day overstay in the past 3 years, so I have to wait on that. So I went to HCMC yesterday and got my passport back today and on the tourist visa it says Void. I asked her and she said I can do 30 day visa on arrival but my 60 day tourist visa was rejected and she didn't have anymore information on that.

I've already paid $1,000 for a month long hotel in Phuket, so I'm wondering if ya'll have any recommendations for me. Should I just give a visa on arrival a try and fly in somewhere? What is the most relax airport? I can't do border crossing because I already did that twice this year which I am sure is why I have been having these issues.

    Thanks for your help.

Out of interest, which airport did you arrive at ?

    I arrived in BKK.

I you applied for the Elite Visa now you would certainly have it by August.

Flying into a different airport would help if needed.

Okay great, thanks a lot. I assumed it was a verbal warning as well but didn't want to take the chance of a 24 hour flight only to be forced onto another 24 hour flight.

  10. Wondering if I could get some advice or if anyone has been in a similar situation as mine.

Been out of Thailand for 6 weeks or so and flew in the other day with a tourist visa (I'm American). IO had me up in the system I suppose and called a superior and they took me to the side and said I stay in Thailand too much and tried to make me go back to USA. About 1.5hrs of pleading they're speaking to my GF on the phone and agree to let me in for 60 days but tell me that I can't come back for 6 months after that.

Nothing is stamped in my passport saying I can't come back, I would assume they have it in the system. I'm wondering if I get an Elite Visa before I leave late August would that "void" the 6 month ban or would I still need to wait that long before I come back to Thailand?

Anyone have any experience with this?

Only been doing tourist visas since December, before that I was on ED visa for Muay Thai. I think what played a big part in this was I didn't have any pictures of me doing Muay Thai for the past 1.5 years but that is because my phone was recently stolen and all my pictures didn't back up, my GF corroborated this and that's why I think they let me in.

Anyways, I would definitely prefer not to leave Thailand for 6 months and was planning on an Eite Visa anyways, but don't want to get it right now if it goes to waste for 6 months. Anyone has any recommendations that would be great.

    Thank you.

  11. a couple of ideas, I know good quality calls are important for business and most of those freebies will disappoint you

First idea, Vonage great quality calls with full functions for 411, caller ID, etc. works great in Thailand and now they even have an app that you can use on your smartphone, negative thing about vonage is NO texting

another service I have been using for 5 years or so is called line2. you can text any phone, although it may not work with some banking message alerts, etc. the fee for line personal use is $9.99 and $14.99 for a business, this gives you some great features line2 will work on Android or IOS or on PC or Mac through web interface. Line2 in my experience is not as stable as Vonage but it has some nice features plus allowing you to be more mobile is a great advantage.

both will require a US credit card Vonage will require someone in the U.S to resend you the ATA box so that could be a deal breaker. check out the websites of both, see what one fits your needs

Thanks for your reply, I think you're the only one that understood I needed a VOIP system and not a free app/softphone.

I actually ended up asking another website and everyone said Vonage works great in Asia, along with other places around the world. Called them and got a quote, they'll be sending the hardware to my boss and he is mailing it to me here in Thailand.

    Problem solved, thanks everyone.

  12. As the most 'transparent' I'd go with Skype. A SkypeIn number makes it as good as it gets.

Now I use them all, Skype, LINE, Whatsapp and Google Hangouts.

They all have plus & minuses, but if you want a 'real' phone I would always go with Skype

I'm asking about a softphone to download to my computer so I can use my headset to call clients, I'm not asking about phone apps. I already have those and they will do no good for the business I am working for.

If you purchase some "Skype Credit" or a "Skype Subscription" you can then dial phone numbers, not just call other Skype users. The phone dialler or softphone is within the Skype program when you click on "Call Phones" which you can now do because you have purchased credit or a package. You just dial the number with the cursor.

They have a free trial so you can try it first.

I appreciate your answer but skype is not catered towards businesses. I'm looking for a VOIP system that I can also purchase a softphone along with it, you cannot choose your own phone number when using skype and we need to use a 1-800 number with our business name that comes up on the caller ID. Nor is skype sufficient enough to handle 3-5 hours of talk time a day to the United States, I've called friends and family's US phone numbers using skype before and the call quality was no good.

you have already been given answers but refuse to listen......skype

I have read each answer, skype is also not a VOIP system. It is not sufficient enough to for talk times of 3-5 hours a day to the US. I have used skype to call family and friends and that is not good enough sometimes.

  15. I have both a skype international number and Zoom.

I use Zoom mostly. It's 10 bucks a month. I'm on it to China daily.

The skype number you have to buy, then you buy the subscription. about 30 bucks.

I have looked at Jive for a softphone. I think it's going to be incorporated into my website.

    http://zoom.us/

    http://jive.com/

While you're at it, get a VPN. This one has all the right formats to get you past the firewall to China. https://www.expressvpn.com/

I have a VPN just because but I rarely use it, there's no need for it for my work. As far as Zoom and Jive go, how well are the connections? Are you on the phone for hours a day and have no problems?

What I've mostly been reading about making calls from your computer to US is that the client has a hard time hearing you, have you come across this issue?
