For solo travelers.....i think the daily budget is probably 5-6000 baht per day. That comes to about 1.500 for a good enough hotel and the rest for a small day trip food drinks exc.
But the roof is the sky.
For 2 weeks holiday (2 weeks millionaire) 80.000 is enough.
Families with children (4 people) perhaps they spend 120.000 to 200.000 and even then it makes 50.000 per person.
If you want to break 8.9 billion baht to 30.000 tourists (laugh 5555) this comes to almost 300.000 baht per tourist.
Maybe some tourists are going to spend 50.000 baht = 1.350€ <1.650$> so the rest of then must to spend 1.000.000 baht.......right.
Of course nothing of this will happen and sandbox will be only good for cats.

It is good enough information for everyone......perhaps the tittle was missing the point (Thai citizens only ).
I personally know already that this article is about only Thai citizens but I wanted to read about it and I am sure that is very helpful for people who are married or have any kind of bond with a Thai citizen so for me it is a thumps up.

Import taxes are there for eliminate the competition dangers for the made in Thailand products......
Import taxes sounds as a good idea for the country economy and employment but in reality it is a monopoly for the elite that do not have to compete against products and companies outside of Thailand.......it is a monopoly....
Same 10 families own the 500 biggest companies in the country they can produce any products that they want without worrying about globalization and competition.
As long as they are also owning all the big supermarket and they control the supply even if baht getting stronger and taxes stay the same they can rise the price of import products so people have to pay more or buy from local factories.
Many things that are made in Thailand are more cheap in Europe even thow we add a 24% in sales tax.
Monopoly is the name.
As for legalize gambling the drugs and prostitution.......really.......i suppose you can do it......if...... you could find billions if not trillions of baht to put in hundreds of millions of brown envelops for the people with uniforms and the authority who benefit by the situation as it is now.

I hope for the sake of the Thai people common sense prevails and the government find a sensible way to open the borders and kick start the tourist trade.

Many countries are suffering from rising infections due to people not observing some sense and even whinging and rebelling against what are seen as impositions on their freedom. Of course, their are serious consequences economically and inevitable inconveniences but as ChelseFan says, "what else can anybody do"
Regarding Governments worldwide, it's damned if you, damned if you don't. The Health experts have warned consistently that a second wave was almost certain and now it's here...
I know many folks on this forum believe that Thailand's current situation is manufactured; manipulating the figures, not much testing, therefore no infections, etc. But on balance, we are in one of the best places on the planet (with just about the entire world being affected far worse in reality)
Governments in general are not to blame - look no further than the people they are trying to help!

Went to Bang Saen Beach this weekend...got stiffed by private condo owner who failed to show up....took half a day to find a hotel with an available room. Traffic a nightmare...wall to wall people in every restuarant and the beack walk was packed. I think Thailand's tourist areas will evolve (or devolve) as the case may be to attract and accomodate domestic tourists and do just fine...it will just take some time.
Tonray.....40.000.000 tourists are missing it is a huge an enormous deficit in GDP of Thailand ...domestic tourism is also going to be down because of the recession from tourist sector and the exports.
Sure many middle class Thai people that are not depending in tourism or exports are not going to be affected by the recession immediately and they probably enjoy the benefits of Thai government "domestic tourism discounts" but the recession is going to be big and after this no existing high season and after the end of the pandemic someone will have to pick up the bill for the economy disaster and pay for it...

1) 300 tourists every week is not a tourist industry opening for giving back to Thai people employment and to hotels a chance to survive, it is a scam a blackmail extract money from desparate people who wants to return to their home in Thailand their Thai family and children.....and for the big money bafallo who miss the Teelak.
2) 300 tourists every week would hardly keep a medium hotel open.
Everything else in Phuket that is related to tourists from abroad and the tourist industry will just don't open because the numbers are not there.
So the experience of Phuket generally this season will be same as an after apocalypse bombarded city.
The only thing that is left for tourists is a 5star hotel and a beautiful beach.....but the world is full of 5star hotels and beattiful beaches without the ridiculous overcharged quarantine exc.

Covid-19 is the perfect excuse to give an end to a big problem such as Thai Airways.
If they really cared anyway.
This company is in business only to care about generals hi-so the elite and thousands of employees that have been put in such a privileged job.
An end of an Era or time for a big handout, changing Thai Airways business model and mentality isn't going to happen without making many big dogs sad.... So it is better for Thai people to be bankrupt and sold.

Welcome to Capitalism.
Supply and demand my friend.....the price of an item is determined by the money of people are willing to pay for it.
It happened in all wars.....you don't have food to eat so some good "business man" sold you 10 kilos of rice for your gold chain.
If government don't take control of all goods and control the "free market" many things will be very bad.
It is the end of the Capitalism..... if governments in all world don't print free money and throw them from helicopters to the people......in about 1-2 months (perhaps more soon) thousands of people will not be able to buy food.
And I am not talking only about Thailand....it will start from America.
The top 1%......and especially the top 1% of the 1% of the world understands now that if they don't loose the lease to humanity and don't feed them it will be soon same what happened in the French revolution.
P. S. Google why all flu virus are called Corona virus....and this is the '19....and you probably have to think before you named your product after a virus name (that exist from the 19th century).
Also there is no such thing as a bad publicity.
-
Believe me....the same laboratory USA designed the virus and the vaccine...it is a multi trillion party....they will be selling it to a 7 billion customers obligingly and yours and mine government will pay big money.
Since they have it they can demolishe all markets and buy at a fraction of the price any stocks they wish few days before the resurrection of the world as we know it.
It is business as usual from the same(10 families) people that are creating "democracy" wars around the world for making trillions.
It is the most effective and cheap way for them to buy out cheap all of us.... With a stupid flu and the terror of the media They own.
If this conspiracy theory of mine is not correct and the virus and media continues same style.... Prepare for military control in Europe and America because after of 1-2 months of self carantine the economy and the food supply chain will be destroyed and will be chaos and riots.

-
Wait and watch.....who will came up (magically) with the vacin in a couple of months will be the "killer".
And we all know "who's" business are the wars and the terror the death and "the market".

Obviously you never have been in the rural Thailand.
In the majority of the rural areas of Thailand where have families that lives in villages around their farms that are farming rice exc products.
People are poor and (most of them) can not afford cars....they commute with 30.000 to 40.000 baht motorbikes....schools are 2-4 kilometers away in distance and a member of the family pick up many times 2-3 children driving very carefully in a two-way (straight line) road from the village to school....
I seen this and done this many times.
It is just how every day life continues to be in the poor rice farm villages.
The roads are not great but are good enough....have good markings for not driving fast around schools and everybody knows what time people are going to pick up childrens.... and it is literally obvious because you can see hundreds of people picking up children from school and driving carefully back to home.
It only takes 1 crazy and iresponsible car driver that is speeding and don't care for the situation to head crash to a family with motorbike... This can and will happen every day if people don't want to care for themselves and the others....it is not an accident it is a way of driving without considering other people's life.

Japan and Korea are not depending on outside investments tourism or waiting for R&D development scientists from other countries to teach them anything.
This countries are both the top dogs in economy technology and education.
They are 1st wold countries that they are independent in almost all aspects of society economy technology and with a very big understanding of ethics in life such as being able to design and keep a polite good mannered society that focuses in evolving their country while making the standards higher without messing with people's life and the inviroment.
They are perfection driven and not money driven.....and this is why they succeed in many cases and why their GDP is the top.
Having high standards the quality is expected and the high income level of a country is going to go up.
In Thailand this mentality is looking crazy as they don't care for tommorow next month or next decade.
This is the problem.
And Thai teachers that will be reached again (fix their pronunciation exc) just call it a BIG No No loose of face.
Never going to happen.

A female friend of my wife just bought a new Toyota Yaris....never before she owned or drived a car in her life and of course she not have a driver's license yet....(thai driving license test in village is a joke).
She paid in front 1.000 baht and have to pay the rest in 84 months plus interest of course.
She is working in a Tesco supermarket in rural North Thailand.....she is "selling" credit cards for new customers that sign up with the bank and starts a new account with a new credit card small loan.
She makes good money (18.000?) from her commission but she never get through the month and never saved 1 baht in her life.....always asking sharkloan money and many times asks borrowing from friends that not longer help her.
Of course she can not afford the car and the expenses that comes with it but nor the bank not her really think about it.
Almost all of Thai people I know have the same mentality and when the <deleted> will hit the fan and money dissappear things will be very very ugly.
No morgeges no guarantee no income and loans taken with interest rate of 1,35 %......when (not if anymore) the perfect storm comes and economy take the downturn and people starting to default the interest rate will skyrocket and even who can before pay their loans will be not able any more.

It all starts from poor education that keeps mass to kindergarden thinking about true quality of people's life....as long as they can shopping spending everybody can be happy....so Thailand will still spend and borrow up to the day that IMF pay them a second visit and kick them back in history of happiness-not after they steel poor people country

Quite often you get what you deserve2016, stating the obvious... But in all seriousness what hope does Thailand have when almost all in a uniform appear to be very openly unscrupulous & insistent on spinning implausible theories on an almost daily basis.
The honest & hard working people here (and there are very many) deserve much much better than this outfit.
