  1. We fly into BKK from a safe list country on the 10th Jan for 6 weeks. We are double vaxed and have the QR code from France for the jabs on phones, and travel insurance is in progress so all good.

However, I'm uncertain about the "1 night SHA+ stay or until neg test result" though. i talked to someone who lives in Bangkok who was formerly a director of a travel company. She said it's grey, but if you get an express test at the airport and it's negative, you can just leave and head to your destination.... is that right?

For the Thai pass which is replacing the CoE, any views on when this will be ready to download?

We are just happy to be able to get back, just wish the gift of clarity could be bestowed on the people who make the rules in Thailand so everyone know whats happening and can plan.

  2. As someone who is planing a retirement in the LoS, theses slightly confusing and muddle messages do cause a little uncertainty, especially if your situation is not exactly standard. If your income is from a business that declares it's income annually, but that income when divided by 12 (on paper) exceeds the the 65K monthly income requirement... would that still qualify? We are considering selling them (they aren't in our home country, and we wouldn't settle there) setting up a company in Thailand buying 3 small condos for rental and a small house for us, would that change the income requirement, or would that then mean we aren't retiring? And for the 800k on deposit or 65k per month, is that per person or is the figure amended for a couple, as a couple would only pay 1 rent (or not if you have bought) and living costs don't actually double?

  3. Bummer.... Thanks guys. Looks like it's bye bye SL, hello some Jap pickup?

    Don't cry and resignate biggrin.png

I know its hard, but there are decent 6 cylinders sedans of Japanese brand below 2 million.

    A laughable 3 to 4 million will buy you a nice 2 (!) liter Merc Benz tongue.png

6 cyl, sedan, and Japanese.... not the same as a 500SL... not even close, and I've had a 300ZX twin turbo, and a Supra twin turbo and the are not in the same league.

Thanks for the link Arthur, WOW.... 3.5 mil for a 2003.... just WOW. thats about £78,000, mine books about £10,000.

  4. Its a 2005 SL500, with all the toys and in almost showroom condition, I kind of viewed it as when I pop my clogs to have a towbar fitted and put my coffin on it lol, and my wife moans I spend more time and money on it that her (probably true). However, we will be retiring an want stress free, I have even considered a road trip to Thailand in it, but think my bum would give up long before.

Thank for all the info guys, very much appreciated

  5. Hello fellow pertolheads. If we complete on the sale of our house we may well move to Thailand and would import a few bits mainly computer stuff etc and clothes, not really anything else, but I would also like to research bringing my pride and joy a MB SL 500, but only if it's less complicated the the Space shuttle manual and isn't going to cost more than the car is worth.

Anyone got any tips or advice please

  6. Hello,

This is my 1st post on a topic that has probably been done to death, but I couldn't seem to find a concise answer so hope someone can helps me out or point me in the right direction.

We are both over 55, and in the process of selling 1 of our houses in France although we are both Brits. We are thinking of moving to Thailand and are a little confused about the exact process. I think we have to apply for the 1 year tourist visa 1st, get over here, then we can open a bank account and find a long term rental etc, and during that year we have to do visa runs every 90 days. When we have been here for a year we can apply for the retirement visa, where we don't have to do visa runs, but must do the 90 day document check..... hopefully I got that bit.

Requirement for the initial 1 year visa are passport form home country and 800,000 baht (we won't touch pensions until we decide long term living here works for us). now is that 800k each or is there a joint figure they accept?

    Any help greatly appreciated
