If this route is taken, at what point would a Thai spouse be eligeable to work without having to apply for a work visa?
My understanding is that once she qualifies for a settlement visa, it enables her to stay and work for the next 30 months.
-
What I think they qualify for through grandma is an Ancestry Visa. This allows them to work in the UK for five years after the age of seventeen. So it doesn't really help. But what I found interesting was that the site I was looking at said that the Ancestry Visa allows ones family to accompany the holder.
If this is still the case it would mean that if I wasn't a Brit (which I should still be) I could apply for an Ancestry visa and get my family in no problem. But as a citizen its six months minimum. Going to check that for interest only.

As unpleasant as it might be I think I am going to have to get a job and if not work for myself. Could qualify with savings but it would mean liquidating everything we have built up here. That would mean foregoing the pleasure of returning to finish off the lotus pond that will never get finished.
Want to see what we can do for the boys. But when I first enquired it didn't look too promising. I get the distinct impression we are not wanted.

To do this you would need to show that there is a shortage of wok cooks in the UK such that you need to import one from outside the EEA. Unless you can show she has exceptional talent which no one in the UK can replicate.
Thx. Would love her to demonstrate how a phad kaphroa should be cooked. But I doubt they would see the humour in this.

Are you a Brit? If that is the case and the two boys are yours and your wife is Thai, your boys are Brits too.
I got my Brit passport through my grandfather. The boys might be eligible for some sort of visa as my mother, their grandmother was born in the UK. The problem is my wife.

Am already looking into the settlement visa. Have two boys so the qualifying income is closer to 25k a year. What I was wondering is whether we could buy a business and then employ her as a Wok cook and get her a work permit?
-
If I buy a business in the UK is there anyway I can get a work permit for my wife other than the settlement visa? To qualify for that the business would have to pay me two thousand a month for twelve months, yes? How does one get a work permit as a Wok cook? Do Wok cooks get work visas?

Thx. Tried the web site and fell at the last hurdle. Have to phone tomorrow.

Tried booking an A1 test. Started with the British Council. But could only find test dates for next year. So tried IDP. Got through to the last page of the booking process to be told "Error Contact IT Support". But no indication of how.
Frustrating!

Have found the following. Ten thousand baht a shot? Nothing but a money gouging process.
BC Bangkok The Landmark Bangkok Hotel, 138 Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok
BC Bangkok College of Management, 8th Floor, Wave Place Building, 55 Wireless Road, Patumwan, Bangkok (computer based testing)
Bangkok Pullman Grande Sukhumvit, 30 Sukhumvit 21 (Asoke) road, Bangkok
Bangkok IDP Thailand, 313 CP Tower 4th floor, Silom Road, Bangrak, Bangkok,
Bangkok FYI Center - Building 2, 5th Floor, Room# 508-509, 2525 Rama IV Road, Klongtoei, Bangkok (computer based testing).
Anyone done this recently? Do they serve tea and buns? Any time limits or is a pass a pass however long it takes to make the application?

When applying for a UK settlement visa the applicant needs to pass a language test. How does one organise this and can the applicant get away with spelling mistakes, bad grammar and broken English.

i don't know that it will be ok for the settlement visa you understand, just saying how i would imagine it to be. reckon you will need to ask a pro on this one to be honest but can't see your remote location matering wherever that is in the world as long as you are legally employed by that employer
Experience tells me to expect obstruction at every turn. Be it from Thai Immigration or the British Embassy. Can anyone recommend a useful immigration consultant that will dig deep enough?

According to Thai immigration, you are working, and you must have a work permit even if you give and not take from the country. Thailand is the only country in SE Asia that seems to have these sorts of laws that harm its own economy. As many have stated, keep quiet and do not try to find the logic in these laws. You will only end up possessing a key to an empty room.
The problem as I see it is that the application for a settlement visa has to be made in Thailand. Acceptance of the application requires that the income shown is earned legally. And if Thai Immigration require a work permit it would be illegal if the Embassy wanted to be nasty.
Would it be possible to get a work permit to work remotely? Foresee fun and games with that one.

Are you working offshore or working online?
Your title says offshore but your OP says remotely?
Badly worded. Should be to accept a job in the UK working remotely.
-
It's not that simple. I have to establish whether it is legal or not as we are applying for a settlement visa for the UK. And the source of ones income needs to be "legal". We will have to make the application here. And although I assume the British Embassy knows the answer I doubt they will tell.
-
Thought that might be case. But any idea why it is not allowed? Any idea where I can view the regulations?
-
Is one permitted to work remotely for an overseas company with no connection to Thailand whilst on an twelve month O visa?
-
Great. Thank you

Cheers. I found this:
Registration by businesses via Internet. Prepare the documents - Business license or signed copy of business registration confirmation
- Letter of authorisation to conduct the registration via internet
- Copy of ID card of person giving authorisation and authorised person
- Fill in the form provided by the officer (download)
- 1 empty compact disk (CD)
Hand over the complete documents to the officer in charge. - The officer examines the documents.
The officer announces the result of the examination. - If documents are incomplete, the business owner is notified.
- If documents are complete, the officer in charge accepts the registration. The registration code is sent to the business by mail or e-mail as indicated by the business owner, together with record forms.
But no indication of where to go next nor what to do with the empty compact disc. I am assuming I need to visit my local immigration office and ask the right questions?

Other sites on the extranet are also up (hotel reporting and Bangkok re-entry permit appointments).
Trying to find the hotel reporting site but not have much luck.

@tamone was spraying his bags with a growth formula, overdid the alcohol and mentioned that this cleared up the mould. Best to try and contact him.

As I understand it you need to sterilise the growing medium. We gave up growing because of bugs and will take a lot more care when we start again. Lesson learnt.

Makes sense. Little to no profit as a grower.

Trying to find out what happened to a Thai student who started and ran a successful blog around 2003 if I am not mistaken. If anyone can remember that far back would appreciate a heads up.
