  1. I live In hua hin and also consider to get my 1 year non-o based on marriage in savana.

its basically the same visa that you could get from within Thailand and you don’t have to leave for a full year, right?

I have all the documents and the 400k and still trouble getting my non-o extended this year.

What’s the best way to get to savannakhet from Huahin?

  2. Hi,

Ive been on a marriage non-o visa for a few years now. First issued in huahin, last year in chiang rai with the help of an agent because I forgot to put 400k into my bank. This year I have already 400k+ laying in my bank for more than 3 months.

Anyways this year I wanted to get the next one for the next 12 months in hua hin again. I already fully moved from chiang mai to huahin with all documents prepared for my non-o marriage visa application.

It also happened that my passport (german passport holder) also expired at around the same time my current marriage visa expires (8th december), so I got a new one issued in chiang mai a couple of weeks ago. They've cut the edges of my old one with the valid non-o based on marriage and my new passport is obviously empty. (they didnt offer me a letter issued stating that I need to transfer my current visa to the new one at immigration, and I also didnt ask for said later - big mistake?)

Now in Huahin the IO said I have to leave the country, comeback and then apply for my non-o based on marriage like every year. I asked why and he talked to another IO who just said the same.

Ok no issue but from my understanding I cant leave because my new passport has no stamp in it, so they cant stamp me out?

I asked this the IO already and he said I can do it at the airport when I fly out. Now Im worried they wont transfer my visa because I dont have the german embassy letter - or is that letter not needed?

Ive been back to the HH immigration already but they just said the same that I need to leave first.

Im kinda confused and worried that they wont let me leave or is there no reason to be worried?

I'd really appreciate all your help and advice.

  3. Hi,

On monday I have to go to the immigration again after getting a 30 day stamp (in red color) into my passport when I applied for my marriage visa a month ago.

Immigration came to take pictures already after the application at my house so I expect that I get the 1 year marriage visa on monday ? I still got the 400k in the bank but would like to invest it somewhere else as soon as possible.

Before going on monday I would like to know how others here handle their 400k deposit yearly ? Do you keep it in the bank all year around or have it just sit in the bank 2 months prior to your application every year ?

Then when 90 day reporting do I need to show my bank book again ?

    thank you ????

At SiSaKet IO they confirmed to an applicant with a Non Imm O-A Visa and expired permission to stay, that he can apply till 26 September for the 60-day extension of stay and that it will be provided with start-date 27 September.
He needs the time as he only has a Village Marriage, and will thus have to arrange his official thai marriage in the coming weeks.  That 60-day extension will then provide him again with more time, so that he can meet the 2-month seasoning for his financial funds (which he didn't start yet) required when applying for his FIRST 1-year extension of stay based on that Non Imm O-A Visa.

    >> Note: If your local IO is not willing to have your 60-day extension of stay start on 27 September, but insists on having it start on date of application, it' would normally just be a matter of waiting till final days of the Amnesty to do that application.

But it is recommended to enquire at your IO if postponing the application of your 60-day extension of stay, would impact their willingness to handle that 60-day extension application in the final days of the Amnesty, as well as their willingness to handle the subsequent 1-year extension of stay you will be applying for subsequently.

Thanks, I will make sure that I also get the extension subsequent and not on the day I apply ????

You will not be applying for a non-o visa. That can only be done with a visa exempt or tourist visa entry.

You will be apply for a extension of stay based upon marriage. You will need 400k baht in a Thai bank on the day you apply for 2 months or proof of 40 baht income.

The only problem you may have is that your original entry to the country with a non-ed visa since they could inist you need a non-o visa entry. You will need to check with immigration in Hua Hin about it.

You can apply for 60 day extension to visit your wife.

I have seen no reports of any office issuing a 60 day extension to the 27th of September. You need to check with Hua Hin immigration office.

Where you registered your marriage means nothing when dealing with immigration. The only requirement is that you have to apply at the office where you're living.

I will do that, thank you !

  6. I was able to get married with an agent from one of the posters in this thread ????

I think it makes sense to ask the marriage visa question here instead of opening a new thread:

What are my next steps now after obtaining the marriage certificate when I plan to get a 1 year Non-O based on marriage ?

Should I get the extension first for "visiting my wife" or is this not issued at the moment ? And if it is, will the extension be on top of the amnesty from 26th september on or from the day I apply for it ?

And do I need to apply for it in Huahin where I mainly live nowadays or in Bangkok where we got married ?

Go to the Lak Si Ket, it is the closest to the MOFA, almost walking distance, they do a large number of foreign/Thai marriages, you are likely to have the least problems there.
You can marry at any Ket/Amper.

We were there today and they said they still need the "immgration signature/stamp" that was also mentioned at Bangrak. They also wanted my passport "translated" (whatever that means) and that document then legislated by the german embasssy - he mentioned however that Bangrak doesnt want that passport translation (which is true).

I emailed the german embassy about this situation and they normally respond quite quickly. - however I received no answer in 24 hours. What a surprise.

I have tried to contact the Agents mentioned by people in this thread today and we will also call the Amphur in Cha-am tomorrow since me and my fiancee live in Huahin.

I will update this thread if I manage to get married or atleast a step closer to it.

If you know another agent or an Amphur that might not need that Immigration letter/stamp please let me know.

Thank you for the help and suggestions @all !

  8. Hello,

I am from germany. My last entry to thailand was at the end of january with a re-entry permit for my ED Visa which was issued in Phuket and was valid, with a basic (non covid) extension till 1st May.

At the end of April me and my fiancee moved to Hua Hin due to the Phuket lockdown and everything being unclear. We planned to get married now for almost a year and I was getting all the paperwork from germany ready (which was alot as you probably know since mid 2019).

Today finally I was able to pick up the final paper which is a consular certificate from the german embassy. This will get legislated tomorrow morning at the Ministry of foreign affairs and then we should be able to marry immediately.

However we already visited Amphur Bangrak today to make an appointment and made sure we dont need nothing else. After they were talking quite long to my fiancee they did send us to the immigration Chaengwattana because I needed a "stamp" to confirm I am not on overstay. I already knew this would cause further issues...

We went to Chaengwattana where the friendly IO told us they wouldnt give me such a stamp and that they could do nothing when the Amphur doesnt follow immigration rules.

We went back to Bangrak and told them we wouldnt get any of that and they then told me I would need a letter from my embassy (which they wont issue..omg..) that states I dont have criminal background (?). More eyebrows raised. I dont exactly know how this correlates to my "overstay" which of course isnt an overstay but I get that they only see my valid visa till 1st May.

Covid or not, I want to get married to my fiancee for more than a year now and we were very excited in the morning that we were finally be able to which then quickly turned into sadness because not only do we need more documents but also Bangrak just let us leave with a "mai dai kha", also stating that the german embassy wouldnt issue such a letter.

Both, Amphur Bangrak and the Immigration refused to give us a letter that states that they wouldnt issue any stamp or document and why.

I would be very grateful for some advice.

You can return at any other entry-point EXCEPT Poi-Pet, who might deny-entry based on a lie, if you have recently been in Thailand.  This applies to those with a valid Tourist Visa as well as those who wish to enter Visa-Exempt.

I assume you will be entering visa-exempt?  Ban Laem is a good alternative, though a bit out of the way coming back from Siem Reap (Angkor Wat).  Fact is, both the northern and southern alternatives to Poipet are "out of the way" - and which you use depends on where you plan to return to within Thailand.

Actually Ban Laem would be very convenient for me location-wise. Are you sure that it is much safer than Poi Pet ?
I am from germany if that matters and have been in thailand for the past whole year with an ED and as a tourist before that.

I could also just fly to Laos but as I side that would be a little boring so Im looking for an alternative.

Why didnt ED come back with you?

Because my school told me I could get it when Im in thailand so I chose that route.

  10. Hi,

I want to do a border hop to cambodia and connect that with a trip to angkor wat. I have already been to laos and myanmar but I understand if that is the easier option. Once Im back im going to get a new ED in thailand with my school. (they told me to do so)

Last time at poi pet it wasnt a pleasent experience as it was extremely packed.

Will I be fine going to cambodia or use another border instead ?

    Thank you ????

  11. So my plan as of now is to spend a couple of days in Hongkong with my old passport.

Should I try to get a new SETV there ? I searched abit around and there were mostly positive review about the thai embassy in hongkong.

If I cant get one then I still can fly back into thailand and get a visa exempt und pick up my new passport.

  12. the new one will be issued in the end of january if im lucky. My visa runs out at the 25th january as well.

Its not that likely that it will be issued before the visa expires so I will most likely in the need of doing a visa exempt run.

I didnt do any visa exempt entries in the last 12 months.

Thank you for your help guys !

  13. Hi,

My current passport has 4 SETVs in it and the last one is red stamped saying that I often travel to thailand with tourist visas.

Due to christmas I dont get my new passport before my current SETV+extension expires so I will probably have to get one visa exempt and then after that I want to get one SETV for the new passport (or the new smart visa once its officialy available).

Will I have any problems obtaining a visa exempt entry into my current passport ?

20k baht and flight+hotel booking for the re-enter are no problem and im aware that I might need that.

Whats the best way to get a visa exempt ? Im in Hua Hin currently. Money not really an issue, I just want it fast and convenient if possible.

  14. They didnt let me leave at the friendship bridge on the Thai-Lao Border in Nongkai. I didnt started to discuss the matter there with the officer because I was very confused and a little bit shocked. He told me to go to the immigration "headquarter" in Nongkai. The IOs there were very friendly and with the help of my thai gf we were able to figure things out. I missed my flight and wasnt able to follow my travel plans though.

To be honest I still dont fully understand what you suggest now. Could you tell me what you would do in my position ? Im on a SETV atm and plan to get another SETV by the end of january with my new passport. But first I really want to make sure I dont run into trouble again because the german embassy told me last time I dont need the letter which was simply wrong.

  15. Hi,

I plan to get a new german passport next week at the 20th december here in thailand which will then be issued 2-3 weeks later.

My current passport has a SETV in it which expires on the 25th this month.

Do I have to go to the immigration for the 30 day extension before or after I applied for a new passport ? Does it matter ?

Now to the question in the title:

According to the german embassy I need to get a paper for 1000 baht from them for the thai immigration which verifies that they issued a new passport to me. However I got  a new passport here from the german embassy 3 years ago and ran into kinda huge trouble when I wanted to leave thailand because I had only my new blank passport with me without the visa in it and the old passport the embassy made invalid without the paper for the immigration. I then had to get the paper faxed to the immigration which was very very complicated.

Do they "transfer" my current visa into the new passport or do they just make the "old" passport invalid and give me the paper for the immigration without the visa in the new passport ?

I just want to be prepared and know everything this time because the last time I trusted the embassy which was a mistake.

Thank you for your help guys :signthaivisa:
