Simply tie your hands in front..put the noose and shirt over your head..bend over and step through your hands..stand up and kick the chair out.  (A forced suicide could easily be constructed to look plain and easy)

A full examination of the cadaver may have shown abrasions, hand prints and bruising.

Stomach contents, Urinalysis and a full Toxicology analysis will take about one month.

Hopefully there will be some CCTV footage surface to clarify if another was involved.  RIP

What CCTV up in the hills where the Durian Farms are?

I predicted a 100 pages of <deleted>e and I was right I'm now predicting 200 pages by December it's comical to me I will say it again 99.9 % Of expats won't be paying any tax none! You are deluded if you think any different it will take years or even a decade to produce legislation to implement a complex minefield of regulations globally tens of thousands of documents would have to be drawn up, so far 2 paragraphs by an advisory board has got you in a frenzy nothing is going to change just like your weekly pledge to stop drinking or bargirl hunting so get over it and back on the piss

let's assume it will take 10 years and as part of their random choice they pick you do see how your tax situation is and they present you with the bill for taxes which in their opinion you had not paid for the last 10 year. you might be in a proper frenzy. even worse when they tell you that they freeze your assets because they don't agree with your assessment that you are part of the 99.9% who should not pay tax.  It will be nice to live a happy life for 10 years and be deluded that this has nothing to do with you. however, the day of reckoning will come. I have heard and seen it before in so called developed countries and i have no doubt it will end in the similar tears here.

Thanks everybody for all the great suggestions!  I just ordered a portable off-grid system from Lazada and will see how it goes for a few months.  If that doesn't solve the problem, I will add batteries or switch to a complete on-grid solar system.

Excellent, would you mind to report back how it went for you? interested as well in this solution. TIA

As has been posted already, if you're from the UK & not an Ex-Civil Servant/ Armed Forces then your Pension is not covered by the Double Taxation Agreement & so could be liable to Tax in Thailand.

I've decided that if the worse happens & I am liable for Thai tax on my UK Savings/Income (I've filed a Tax Return every year since I was 18 so know I've paid whatever taxes are due in the UK ), I'm simply going to do 1 year in every 3 as a non-Tax resident in Thailand & bring enough money over that year to live on for the 3 years... Let's see them tax that.

sounds like a great idea aside from the Thai government interpreting the rules as they see fit. I read similar comments when it came to showing  bank balances for immigration and unfortunately they did not see it as the optimistic chap saw it. At the end they are in a much stronger position than us on these issues.

I am pretty sure if you stay here 180+ days for 2 years and then stay away for 1 year and get back they will go after you and aside from the huge bureaucratic hassle there is a good chance they will hit you for the tax anyway unless you show that you were declared a tax citizen elsewhere and did declare a tax return. Don't forget, they have the upper hand. If they think something is fishey they will block your accounts and might even collect the passport until all is sorted.

Basically I think they are referring to a capital gain. If the taxes are paid and can be proven elsewhere then it can be avoided. If the money is not taxed in a foreign jurisdiction then Thailand tax laws would govern the taxation if that wealth was brought into Thailand if the person was tax resident.

It will not be a joyride to prove that the transfer from your savings account abroad was earned and taxed 10 years ago. sounds like an admin nightmare and once they have people on the hook it will be on them to prove the money was taxed before.

So the main sources of water are the pip=line from the mainland.

some reservoir around the island and boreholes into the aquifer.

There are a couple of desalination plants - but these are problematic including: high energy consumption, Desalination requires a lot of energy to remove salt from seawater, the power required puts a strain on the island's electrical grid.

It also produces concentrated bring which has an environmental impact. The brine produced can be harmful to marine life if it is not disposed of properly.

Cost of desalination is a relatively expensive way to produce water. This can make it difficult for the island to afford the necessary infrastructure. and dispose of the brine in a safe way.

Do you think in the future desalination could be a solution if produced with solar power or is the disposal of the brine just too difficult/expensive?

Yet before Covid, there were seven other airlines flying into the private airport (which does not receive subsidies from tax payers).

Currently there are two other airlines flying to Samui. One on a regular basis, the other 'as and when' there is demand.

A lot of visitors used to fly to Suratthani, but Suratthani airport has similar problems to other airports - a lack of planes meaning a lack of regular services.

    39 flights to Samui today.

    9 flights to Suratthani today.

I do not think that cost is the main factor.

After all, high flight prices into samui also keep a lot of the undesirables away. Lot less trouble and shenanigans than in places with cheaper access.  In addition, could the island's infrastructure really cope with 5-10 charter flights a day?

quite happy to keep it as it is and let people talk bad about the island where they have no or very little knowledge

  8. There was a few days late last year when they already stopped issuing residents certificates at Immigration only to resume this service shortly after (its unclear if this was a communication issue or what happened).

I have Thai ID and Yellow book but Motorbike and Car Dealers including agents who deal with paperwork will not accept it as they say Land Transport Office in Samui does not accept them for ownership transfers (they do accept workpermits).  I was positively surprised when they accepted the yellow book for the Driving Licence renewal and I wonder if this is yet another communication breakdown.

Hopefully Immigration will resume issuance of resident certificates so people don't keep running around in cricles.

    And..?

It's not a question of owner, but that any airline can fly USM on same conditions and fees as Bangkok Airways, which they can. The fees are high, because there is no tax-payer support involved in the building and maintaining the airport...????

I believe the free marketforces are not quite as much at work as you suggest. Prior to Covid Silkair did have two flights. I was told that they got the landing rights for the SIN-USM flights under the condition that they could not undercut Bkk Airways fares on that route.  I thought it was fishy but closely following those fairs for quite a few years they indeed were not once cheaper on their basic fare than Bkk Airways but their cheapest fares mirrored Bkk Airways exactly through the various price cycles.

"they arrested Mr. Michal Kamil Wielebinski, 37, a Polish national"..... He's 37 and is there on a "student visa"? What is he, a career student? Even doctors graduate and start practicing by age 26. When they let people into the country, they need to use common sense. In this case, a 37-year-old on a student visa should have been scrutinized.

Learning Thai was a common loophole for people who wanted to stay longer than the tourist visa allowed. It all went well until people started to promote it on social medial. Once Immigration started to check on school attendance, making the visa shorter and require a test to move on to the next level/visa it started to fall apart.

It was a good money spinner, there were a few schools where the numbers did not add up.  200+ enrolled students taking a minimum of 4 hours a week with a classroom that fitted less than 10 pax...

Seems like the Russians are not aware of that the tourists season on Samui ends today, from tomorrow it's monsoon season until just before Xmas (Western Xmas)...:whistling:

But then it is not like the weather did stick to the calendar this year given how much rain we had in the dry and "normal" season.
