  1. Its all about the size of the pics..

    The bigger, the slower.. :o

Try resizing the pics you want to upload..

The photos are 60kb so it's not that, is there a setting on my computer or my modem that might be preventing me from uploading, or could it be a TRUE thing?

I've got my firewall settings off so that's not the problem...

  2. Hi all, I'm trying to host some pics on Photobucket so I can link to them from elsewhere but I am unable to upload them! My internet is a bit slow at the moment but that shouldn't make any difference should it??

Does anybody else use Photobucket? Are you having the same problems? Do you know of any alternatives? I've tried a few others but the same thing is happening, does that mean it is something to do with my IP address or ports or something beyond me??

    All help is appreciated

  3. After waiting for ages to get my v3 phone to Thailand I've found out that it's locked on the Orange network in the UK, I've read lots of reviews for unlock sites but most of the reviews are bad, can anybody recommend a good place to buy an unlock code? I'm on Koh Chang at the moment and the only way I can get it unlocked is if I go to the mainland but I'd prefer not to do that and just pay for a code...

    As always, thanks in advance!

  4. You can go to TOT and ask for adsl only!

We ordered 2 lines a couple of months ago, with just an adsl signal, so no voice.

The lines were installed the next day. Instead of logging in (on the PPP session) with the phone number, you login with the supplied line description (e.g. zy874392).

This way you won't have to wait for available ports on the PBX, a free port at the DSLAM is enough.

Thanks Prasert, I'll confront the staff in the Koh Chang office with this on Monday, their English seems very limited, my Thai is fairly limited so we should have some fun trying to understand each other :o

  5. First you need to specify which numbers are all taken, is that island wide or just your Soi. I live in one of the older Chinese neighborhoods of Bangkok and after some digging I found that "all the numbers are taken up" means that no more numbers on the relay box at the being of my Soi/street.

I ask what then they say yes you need to wait 2 months or maybe more quickly if more people (5) request additional telephone lines. So now I have 5 telephone lines, direct number to all rooms in the house.

So if I want a quick line I might be wise(ish) to request several phone lines??

  6. I'm trying to set up internet on Koh Chang but am finding it difficult to do :o

I'm looking to rent in a bungalow near White Sands but all the phone numbers are taken up!!??

I've been to the TOT office to ask about a new number but there is a 2 month waiting list...

Is there any other way I can get internet? I've thought about using my mobile phone but isn't that a bit slow?

Any help, as always, would be appreciated

  7. I understand the effects of a noisy airport and unnecessary travel but in the bigger picture, am I supposed to sail back to the UK once a year for visa renewal or would the Thai government like to give me a better deal on my visa, perhaps local renewal once a year, then I'd never need to use the airport, thus saving all that naughty noise pollution!

  8. How exactly would the resident be compensated? would it be in a similar fashion as to when you dink a taxi on the rear bumper and give him B300 for the repair but still see him driving around with the same dink 2 years later?

I can't understand this logic. How long will the compensation last for these residents? Until they have found housing a suitable distance away from the pesky airport? Or will it go on forever like the pesky 'dink'?

  9. I've just bought a Motorola V3 for a friend and he wants me to change the UK firmware to Thai, is this a simple procedure in MBK or somewhere similar?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Nikkijah

Maybe I should add that it was bought in the UK and sent here!

  10. I can't imagine that you will be able to get creche style care for the same rate you pay your nanny, especially if you want a western style care centre. I imagine that you will need to pay a significant amount of money to get this. I personally am a fan of creche and pre-school type care and would 100% rather have this for my son than a nanny but I am in a situation where this is possible. If you can not afford to pay for fees, can you afford to pay more money for a better nanny? Perhaps a Filippino that speaks English? You could also get the nanny to take your child to places like Gymboree or Little Gym so the are socialising with other children.

I may be able to afford a Filipino nanny but we don't have the spare room - that's currently my office - and our home isn't big enough for another person to live in...

I'm not bothered so much about the price, just somewhere local to my area would be fine, I know I'm in the wrong part of BKK to get what I want, unless someone knows of somewhere near Pin Klao(which I doubt) :o

I suppose I'll just have to continue with my current situation

  11. Great reply Naam :o

j_cheung, what kind of figures are we talking about when you 'buy fractional ownership of companies'? Because I'm talking about buying small amounts of gold each month, say B10-15,000, could this amount of savings be better put into 'buy fractional ownership of companies'? I think not, but correct me if I'm wrong...

  12. Mixed responses, so why did gold reach $860 and then fall again? Was it at an unrealistic price at $860? Or did something else happen to make the stocks fall?

It seems that if I want to save for the long term that gold is a fairly good bet, is it less volatile than other stocks? Or pension funds for that matter? Can anybody tell me?

  13. I'm watching a report on channel 7 about gold theft & fraud and it started me thinking about gold...

My partner told me that when she was young her aunt used to buy 1 Baht of gold for about B800 but now it's worth B12-15,000(I've no idea!)

I asked her if she thought gold would ever decrease in value but she didn't think so...

I can't stand the stuff, I think it looks cheap, especially if I see a lot of it draped over someones neck or rattling around some wannabe-Hi-So's wrist, anyhow...

Is it worth investing in gold? buying the odd solid bracelet or even tiny bullion and keeping it somewhere VERY safe, like in my old shoes :o

  14. The number for the hotel is on the website previously posted on the reservations page:

    Inter Reservations

Virtually all hotels in Vientiane you just need make a reservation - no need to pay in advance mainly as all but the 4 or 5 expensive one I list are cash only not credit card or debit cards. So there ain't any online booking services such as Asia rooms etc.

    :o

Thanks again technocracy, I think this is the place! :D

  15. I stayed at the Novotel before and I have to say they provided better service and rooms than 95% of the hotels I've stayed in countries like Germany, UK or US.

Cheers rainman, the Novotel looks a bit too 'Hi-So' for me, I'm not sure I'd be able to relax in a place like that :o

  16. Inter-hotel looks right down my street! Love the antiques throughout the hotel, not unreasonable prices either, only problem is that I can't find a way to book direct with the hotel, trip advisor & agoda.com offer reservations but we all know what that means don't we!

Has anybody got a direct number for this place?

    Thanks in advance!
