  1. Hua Mark:

True went off last night for about half an hour, and then came back. Put 4 downloads in before going to bed, and this morning two had finished and two had failed, but that could be a hoster problem.

Then True went off again this morning for about an hour and has just come back.

  2. Today travelled up Lad Phrao Road and 6 kms from Bang Kapi mall the flooding starts. We then travelled back to Ramkamhaeng Road all the way out past Min Buri with no sign of flooding.

We have videos of Lad Phrao road and the intersection with VR Road where the bike died in deep water

but managed to resurrect it shortly after.

Thanks for the trip along Lardprao Rd. It looks as if it'll be a while before I'll be passing that way again.

The place where the video stops is Ratchada/Lardprao Intersection.

  3. canal meters say Saen Saeb at Ekamai and Asoke are flooding. True or not ?

SA04 on the Water Measurement System site? Yeah, according to the website it's massively overflowing. Anybody there??

SA04 is klong Samsen - different part of town

Sa04 Klong Samsen Thanon Ekamai is in Huay Kwang district - certainly not the Eastern Bus Terminal Ekamai, which is at Ekamai South. Huay Kwang begins when you cross Phetburi Road at Ekamai North, and Sa04 seems to be on, or below, Thanon Pradist Manudharm, which is the new extension to Ekamai Rd. starting a few hundred metres before the Ekamai/Phetburi junction. The road has a flyover across Phetburi Rd. Samsen Canal flows parallel to Rama IX Rd and south of it, and joins Saen Saeb about 400m south of where Klong Lardprao joins it.

Samsen Canal starts from the Chao Phraya just north of Wachira Hospital and flows generally east. None of the three other stations between the river and Sa04 have any overflow, so the only way for Sa04 to overflow is for the water to come down Klong Lardprao faster than anybody can report it, turn right(south) at the junction of Lardprao and Saen Saeb canals, and then turn right (west) into Samsen Canal and not flow south along Saen Saeb to Klong Tan. No way! At both Sa04 and SS03 the figure at the top says -99. Looks like another false reading to me.

    EDIT:

All this research about Klong Samsen was just a waste of time. The status on the stations without problems says in Thai "poo kradit" or "usual/normal", and on Sa04 and SS03 the status is "kad kong" which I thought meant unusual/abnormal i.e. overflow. But the penny's just dropped, and "kad kong" probably means "out of order."

    Re: out of order:

I remember a cartoon in Punch which showed a dog looking forlornly at a tree which had a notice saying Out Of Order on it.

  4. Anyone see anything "on the ground" at Khlong Saeng Sab at the Asoke/Phetburi intersection - the Water Measurement System live report is showing the water level well over the top. Similarly for Khlong Sam Sen at Ekamai.

    Re: Khlong Saen Saeb,Asoke/Phetburi:

Must be an error; SS04(Klong Tan), a few kms. upstream, and SS01(Bo-Be),downstream, show no problems, and there are no reports of water thundering down Rachada from the north. I think Klong Lardprao joins Saen Saeb a couple of kms. north of Klong Tan.

  5. BTW, is it possible to use another simile aside from "dry as a bone"?

I enjoyed this one posted today,11:52, on p.33 by gunghang:

Ramintra intersection/roundabout is still as dry as a devout Muslim.
  6. Saen Saeb Canal, Bangkapi, late afternoon:

Water flowing citywards (and on into the Gulf, I hope) noticeably faster than usual, and at Sri Boon Ruan Temple boat terminal water is splashing about where it wasn't splashing about a few days earlier, but the level of the water betweeen the temple and Bangkapi looks almost the same as before the gates were opened with about a metre and a half to go before over-flowing. Canal boats are operating, but I don't know if they're going the full distance.

  7. A man went to his doctor and said, "Help me, Doctor. Whenever I see a patch of grass, I start singing "The Green Green Grass of Home." If I see a cat, I start singing, "What's New Pussy Cat." When I see a girl walking at night, I start singing, "Daughter of Darkness."

"Ah,' said the doctor. "Sounds as if you have the Tom Jones Syndrome."

"I've never heard of that. Is it common?" asked the man.

The doctor nodded and said, "It's not unusual."

  8. www.bbc.co.uk

Due to technical problems, we are displaying a simplified version of the BBC homepage

I can only listen to BBC World Service Live; it reminds me of the days before the internet when you had to listen on short wave radio, but the signal is very clear now.

    Cheers.

  9. Page Load Error for BBC.

Since I got up this morning, I haven't been able to access any of the BBC website.

    Connection Interrupted

    The document contains no data.

The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.

Other websites are opening normally, and a virus check is negative.

Can others access the BBC today?

Surely it can't be the Bt500m firewall!

    Cheers.

  10. EDIT:

It seems that FF3 can't be held responsible for uploads being faster than downloads; speed tests using Opera & IE6 produced similar results.

But "excruciatingly slow" accurately sums up my internet at the moment.

  11. However, the slower download speeds people are talking about may be attributable to the fact it seems to incorporate a virus scan with the download process, and that seems to be something new. Mind you, I typically only download torrent files anyway, and they're so small I'd never notice.

That might explain why my upload speed is higher than my D/L speed with FF3.

What a derisory speed for so-called Hi-Speed Internet!

Can't listen to BBC i-player half the time nowadays.

  12. Good news for True users:

TOT told to let True Internet ease data jam

The national telecom regulator will order TOT to allow True Internet Gateway to connect via its facilities with foreign networks temporarily, to provide an Internet gateway service to ease the data jam following the damage to the Asian submarine cable by a strong earthquake off of Taiwan.

Suranan Wongvithayakamjorn, secretary-general of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), said TOT should urgently allow True Internet to go ahead and that it can operate the service for three months.

True Internet said it could start providing such a service within 10 days after being granted permission. It is a subsidiary of True Corp.

The company had already won an NTC licence to operate an international Internet gateway but TOT has still refused to grant the company access to its facility on the Thailand-Malaysia border to connect with foreign carriers. Suranan said that in a parallel move the NTC would probe why TOT continues to decline to allow True Internet to link with foreign carriers via its facilities.

TOT and CAT Telecom are the two existing providers of the international Internet gateway for local Internet service providers to exchange data traffic with foreign telecom carriers.

Information and Communications Technology Minister Sitthichai Pookaiyaudom said yesterday that the situation in Thailand is expected to return to normal within two weeks.

CAT president Phisal Jorphokaudom said that six out of nine submarine cable links were damaged by the quake. Among them were the Asia-Pacific cable network linking Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea and Japan.

He said the agency had already restored two out of the six damaged networks and is coordinating with international telecom carriers to create back-up links, including via satellite.

Most international Internet data and voice phone calls are exchanged via submarine cables round the globe.

TOT executive vice president Kamthon Waithayakul said the quake had affected only between 10 per cent to 15 per cent of the agency's 007 and 008 international-call services and 30 per cent of its broadband service.

The slight impact is due to the availability of back-up links, but he admitted that the access speed of the broadband Internet has dropped as TOT has to route some data traffic from the damaged main link to the back-up system.

  13. In the same boat as MaiPenLai.

Can access my RS.com Premium Zone, but cannot upload. Can still D/L via RS.com PZ & RS.de PZ, but when I try to D/L as free user, I get Access Denied message, and I wonder how much longer I'll be able to D/L via RS.com/de PZ's.

YSI & zshare still allow me to U/L. Haven't tried the other hosts as I depend upon RS.com U/L's to get points to extend my RS.com Premium A/C.

I've tried uploading to RS.de via RapidGet, and even when their drives are not full, the U/L fails - there's a D/L complete message, and then instead of the writing links message, you get the U/L failed message.

RapidShare AG is a legitimate, ethical and responsible online webhosting service. In fact, I believe they are the world's largest. They have a very clear policy regarding any illegal or offensive content and will immediately block access to said content when a complaint is received.

I would forward TRUE's comments to RapidShare management, and let them "jump" all over TRUE. (You might even inform the German Embassy in BKK, then standback and watch the fireworks.

I don't think I'd call them ethical. Their drives are full of illegal stuff which they turn a blind eye to, although they do promptly delete it when a complaint is received. I doubt they would like to draw attention to themselves.

I've heard that RS.com are registered in Switzerland to avoid a stringent file-sharing law to be introduced in Germany in the new year.

Would a proxy help to get round this U/L ban? I've never needed to use one so far, and don't know much about them, but I'm willing to learn if it becomes necessary.

Would appreciate whatever guidance anyone can provide.

    Cheers.
