  1. Hello All...

Thank you in advance for any and all assistance.

I am an American male living in Cambodia, but wish to relocate to Thailand to live FT.

    This is my personal preference.

I have a business in Cambodia importing clothing from Thailand, that I manage with my Cambodian GF, and mother of our two children.`

She will continue to travel between LOS and Cambo on a tourist visa, like so many Khmers doing daily, weekly, monthly buying in LOS.

I've been out of LOS for several years and have not been following the twists and turns regarding Visa rules, gov't crackdowns, etc.

I'm trying to sort out whether it makes more sense to apply for a Thai company, switch the company offices to LOS, and get the non-immigrant B visa...or, just make border runs to Malaysia/Saigon for 60 day visas.

I love flying, traveling, and eating, so a short flight to Malaysia or Saigon is not an issue.

If I receive the 90 day Non Imm B, do they eventually loosen, and allow the 1 year multiple?

One concern is, if there are any current issues (I know can change any time) with multiple back-to-back runs, ie., 6x/year?

Also, Siam Legal seems to have moved or gone out of business since 2006, and has been replaced with a handful of firms with similar names.

Are there recommendations for a decent law firm with a good track record and service? I see TILA advertised on Thaivisa.

*Money (Taxes, VAT, Registration, Office) is one consideration, but convenience is almost as important.

    Again, your input is appreciated.

  2. Hello. I am currently living in Ekamai, but find it a bit too noisy and polluted.

I would like to head out of downtown a bit, but still have convenient transportation, ie. BTS, MRT.

Any suggestions for a nice apartment building would be appreciated.

    ~45-70sq meters...studio, 1bdrm, 2 bdrm.

Newer, secure building, hi speed wifi (if possible, else I'll get my own), furnished, etc.

For discounts, I can sign for 6 month to 1 year lease, no problem.

Budget to ~15k for spectacular place, but 9-10k would be a great find..

Thank you very much in advance.

  4. Just want to get an opinion on your thoughts about the best Thai language school located in Bangkok.

I am a 40 year old American, just landed and moved to Ekamai.

I would like to study for 1-3 years and receive appropriate Ed Visa.

I am looking for legitimate school (good reputation and history) with a 1 or 2 day per week schedule, that also has the option of making up a class here and there, as I travel out of the country sometimes.

As I am not working currently, I would like to find the best value also.

    All information much appreciated.

    Thank you in advance.

  5. Hello,

I apologize in advance for asking what must be a super common question, but the amount of information on the web and in the forums is a bit dizzying to say the least.

Any and all information is truly appreciated and I thank you in advance.

I am currently in Bangkok and plan on staying long-term, as in years.

I am a freelance photographer and I travel abroad often, but would like the option of not doing a flight border run every 30 days.

I am not ready to start a Thai Corporation, as my biz does not require hiring 4 Thais.

Never been married, and don't plan to anytime soon.

Are there any visa options available for periods longer than 30 days, that can be obtained by me flying out of Thailand to KL for example?

Can these be obtained multiple times and how long do they take to process?

I am interested in learning massage, speaking thai, or cooking.

So recommendations for Bangkok based schools, and ED Visa specifications would be appreciated.

But, since I travel a bit, not sure I can meet the scheduling requirements.

In the end it may be the only viable option for long term, so I may have to adjust, or if I can make-up classes, that could work also.

Best option would be 60-90 day visas that can be renewed. Does this bird exist?

I am willing to do almost anything to stay, within reason.

End of the day I may just have to fly in and out on cheap flights.

    Thank you again!

  6. Hello,

I am moving into a building in Ekamai.

The rent is a very good price, but the landlady is a bit behind on technology and only has ethernet in the room.

As I also have an iPad, I need wireless.

I spoke to her and she is open to having someone come in and install wireless routers on each floor.

Any suggestions for a place or person would be great.

    Thanks in advance!

    Jay

  7. I'm a US citizen not looking to play the complicated Visa game. I want to come to TL and do my 90 days and then take my Thai gf somewhere else, such as an ASEAN country or India, etc., until I can come back for another 90 days. What countries can Thai nationals travel to and from easily? It would just be great to bob back and forth btween TL and Vietnam/Laos for example!

Thanks in advance for your comments!

  8. I read through this whole thread and I must now interject as there is a lot of confusion here. A lot of screwed up opinions too. I am an Italian, born and raised in Chicago. I have had pizza everywhere, from NY, to SF and Italian. I know them all and will correct you all.

    Italian pizza Vs. American pizza

One isn't any better than the other. They are just totally different and it's all a matter of preference. Real Italian pizza is thin crust, with more of a thick tomato paste type of sauce, fresh garlic, basil and smatterings of cheese, but not a lot. It would look something like this:

    photopizza5gm.jpg

American pizza is crust with lots of cheese, meat and whatever else you want on it. A hearty pie. It would look like this:

    anim15wk.gif

It's all a matter of taste.

Chicago Pizza Vs. New York Pizza

I have had hundreds of different pizza from lots of places in Chicago. Chicago is famous for it's deep dish pizza but like Jeff1 was saying earlier, there is also great thin crust pizza in Chicago. Of course there is a place there that I like better than any other place in the world but its my preference. Its also a thin crust pie and in Chicago its usually cut into square pieces and not slices.

For New York, pizza is always in big slices. I had pizza at Patsy Grimaldis (Grimaldis Pizza), which is always voted the #1 pizza in NY by the Zagat guide and by the CitySearch voters poll of NY residents. It is a very good pie and I really enjoyed it. Of course I still like my Chicago pizza better, but thats just my preference. So I have had the best NY has to offer and the best Chicago has to offer. I've also eaten pizza in San Franciscos Little Italy (North Beach). IMO, it doesnt compare to NY or Chicago.

Now is Italian pizza better than American style? Well, people from America that have grown up on their own style will probably like American style better. While Italians will like theirs better. It's just a preference so there is no need to fight over it.

Now, can a decent pizza be found in Thailand? Not that I have seen or tried. I doubt Thailand will ever be able to make it as good as we would want it due to inferior ingredients. Thats just the way it goes.

bangkok pizza on 24/1 sukhumvit imports most if not all of they key main ingredients for their pizzas and the owner is from brooklyn!

  9. Ronny's was good when it had the original owner years ago, but the new owners cut costs and use cheap ingredients. Also, they have their business up for sale for 4M baht. I have been eating Bangkok Pizza since they opened. Like any new restaurant getting their sea legs I have had some issues with consistency early on. But, these guys (owners from Brooklyn, NY & Aussie) really love their pizza and have really pulled off the best ###### pizza I have had in Asia, let alone Bangkok. Pizzas now come hot and yummy every time and i have had no issues, just raves about this NEW York style pizzeria. They are on a small soi off sukhumvit. The menu says 24/1 sukhumvit, right next to Soi 26. Great friendly staff, attentive and the food is amazing, especially for the price. I love their pastas and eat the Seafood marinara or Alfredo at least 2x/week.

Also, a kick ass caesar sald and their mixed green salad is huge, inexpensive and delicious.

They have changed their menu around, dropping some slow sellers and adding new flavors. I complained early on about the Buffalo Wings, and was told that they were having difficulty finding Habenero Hot Sauce. No they have it and have perfected their recipe, IMO. You can actually get real, delicious, spicy Buffalo Wings now in BKK! I like to get delivery of the 20 pc and watch the game with some bros and brews. They even started serving with celery and carrot sticks, and ranch dressing, just like in the US!

Hats off to these guys for trying their hearts out and the pizza shows for sure. Looks great, tastes great and they deliver to 2am on fri-sun, 12pm thye rest of the week.

My favs are Empire Strikes Bacon, Aroi Aroi and the classic New Yorker with mushrooms and anchovies. The Texas BBQ Chicken is my buddy's fav, and I even tried the Thai favorite last week named Samui Sunset. I put off for months, since it has a base of Thousand Island Dressing and Mayonnaise (you can opt for tomatoe sauce), but ###### this pizza was really, really good. Lots of seafood and the fat from the mayo coooks the dough just right. I was really surprised, but it is one of their best sellers.

ps. they are planning a second location at the corner of wittahyu rd and petchburi rd. they say they should be open in a week. great for me as i live in Wittahyu Complex and am dying for a late night hang out in the area...and DELIVERY 100M away...right on!

pretty sure the website is just their name, thank god they did't try some idiosyncratic thai/farang name... just bangkokpizza.com alot easier to remember at 1am after a few pithchers ;-)

  12. I have found myself in a condo I do not like though I have 2 months deposit and a 1 year lease. I have been here 3 months already. I want to move this month. What can a landlord do if I break the lease? What is likely to happen knowing this is Thailand and no one seems to like gov't red tape or spending extra money they don't want, ie legal fees, etc.

My worry is that I am applying for work permit and I don't want to get red flagged.

    Thanks in advance!

  13. My girlfriend and I are flying in from USA after 1 week stop in japan

    Arriving Thailand May 28

    Departing LOS Aug 1st

If I get 60 day here in USA, how do I take care of extra days?

Do I really need the 60 day visa if I do border run, but how to explain 64 day airline ticket?

Also, my girlfriend is leaving for a short trip to Hong Kong

on July 3 - July 10. So I assume she will get 30 day renew coming back from Hong Kong, but she will be over 30 days in 1st leg of trip from may 28-July 2.

You need a single-entry tourist visa, your friend a double-entry tourist visa. Upon arrival in Thailand on May 28, your passports will get stamped with “admitted 28 MAY 2006 until 26 JUL 2006”

Your friend, upon returning from Hong Kong on July 2, will get a stamp “admitted 2 JUL 2006 until 30 AUG 2006”

Shortly before July 26 you, but not your friend, must apply for an extension of stay (application form TM-7) at any immigration office in Thailand and pay a fee of THB 1,900. Bring your passport and airline ticket along.

Alternatively, your friend could also get a single-entry visa plus, in Thailand, an extension but this would on the whole cost a little more, I believe.

    ---------------

    Maestro

i think we are going for two 60 day visas. a little overkill since she is only over the 30 days a bit, but she will get re-admitted coming from hongkong and i will just apply for a few days extension before the end. sound good?

  14. Your help is much appreciated!!!

My girlfriend and I are flying in from USA after 1 week stop in japan

Someting like 64 days depending how you count

  15. I don't remember anyone being denied entry, however there have been instances of the border chaps saying 'don't come back for another stamp'. Fixed by using a different crossing for the next few runs.

Honestly, it's not difficult or particularly expensive to get 2 or 3 entry tourist visas (Penang), reduces the hassle of constant border runs. 60 days per entry plus an additional 30 by visiting immigration (IIRC 1900 Baht).

Thanks for responding. So, let me get this straight...I can come in on a Tourist Visa from the US and then go to Penang and obtain 2-3 60 day entry tourist visas all at once? Are they stamps in my book or paper visas that I hand to the border guys? Then you say I can get an extension for 30 days by visiting immigration, yes? So, after that do I repeat the Penang process?

If we end up deciding to stay in Thailand for many years, then I will come up with the USD$50k to get one of the 1 year visas.

Your help is very much appreciated!

  16. So, let's say I don't have the funds or don't want to go thru the hassles and/or deceit for the bigdaddy visas. I make more than enough to live on VERY comfortably in TL, so let's say I get my 90 day and then I just border run every 30 days.

Has anyone ever been denied a renewel, assuming of course you "look good", have the funds, etc, etc.

If everything is in order, do they have any basis to not renew your visa if they see 10, 20, 30 visa stamps in yr book?

Just looking at my options...any help or advice appreciated.

    Jacob

  17. Wondering if it is feasible and worth it and of course legal to ship a California registered 1986 toyota Land Cruiser (mint) and a 91 BMW K100RS with only 29k miles, to Thailand for my use. I plan on staying forever, or at least coming back and forth for many, many years! Is it legal? What is the registration process and fees like? Yada yada, etc. All of your answers will be greatly appreciated, truly! Thanks!

  18. Coming to Thailand to live, hopefully forever and I am exploring several options in generating income. Is it possible to purchase a condo/flat and produce positive income in TL? Which scenarios, areas, types of tenants, etc.? Can I buy a condo for US$30-40k, rent for 15-20K baht and live up north for 8-10k (just rent, not food, clothes, travel etc)? Any help is much appreciated, please edu-ma-cate me! Thanks... :o

  19. I'm wondering if all of my questions and concerns could be easily met by going with one of these Thai law firms specializing in such matters? Has anyone had success, or is it just silly to spend the money when a little leg work might get it done anyway? Some of these companies have stated that they can do the sponsoring and one even has a head Military or Police Chief sitting on it's Board. It can't hurt to call this firm as a client sitting on the border or worse yet, in the back of Thai police car, right? Thoughts?I can re-book my ticket, but I'm really jonsing to get back, it's been almost a year and I've worked my ass off to sock away the 2 million baht, while paying all the bills and keeping the western girls smiling. Uggh! :o So, now I want to kick back for a month, then start a Thai version of my US biz, buy goods, sell over the Net, ship out of BKK to the US. I just don't like the idea of having to commit to the tax rate, if I'm not really making 60k a month on top of the 4 employees, until I actually am...waiting for your words of wisdom, as the members of this forum truly seem intelligent and forthright. Thanks again!
