  1. Of course, everything discussed here is about rumors and still unconfirmed. On the other hand I wonder why all these weird plans are not mentioned at all in the Bangkok Post (BP)? IMHO the BP is having a lot of stories about rumors and unconfirmed intentional law changes. But still nothing about the planned new laws. I understand that BP is a Thai newspaper, which doesn’t serve long staying foreigners, but an article about planned laws, which are similar to regulations seen in communist or dictator style run countries should be worth to be mentioned.

The only way to stop this madness is publicity. I am pretty sure that a bad (international) press and public opinion would have an influence. Instead the building boom of residencies for foreigners in tourist areas is still going on. I also noticed that in and around Hua Hin more and more properties and businesses are for sale. Are there a few “informed” parties trying to leave the sinking ship?

Of course every investor or future house owner is still assured that all papers and permits can be arranged 100 % guaranteed. If everybody would know about the plans, nobody would invest and a lot of people could take their money into a safe country. By doing so the target (money) would perhaps be lost before the new laws would come into power.

But maybe everybody tries to safe his own skin first before informing others. This is life and I can say that because my funds are safe in my home country. My reason for doing so was the strong believe that there will be another crisis soon. Looks like this will become true but for a different reason than expected.

  2. I am not even sure if your child needs a visa. It will simply receive a 30-stamp on entry. Children are exempted from overstay fines until they are 12 years old (or so). I went twice with my son to Penang and once to the Philippines via Bangkok Airport. My son always had many month overstay and there was no problem or fine for him.

Somebodey here in forum also mentioned that at the airport immigration (where you pay overstay fees) was a notice attached to the wall, saying "...no fees for kids...".

  3. When our child was born the hospital staff asked us if we like to give our son Thai citizenship and we agreed (knowing that he could get father/mother nationality anyway easily). However they cam back from the office with a birthcertificate for foreigner and they said it was impossible for him to become Thai.

There was an article in the Bankok Post about it. They said that in the seventies the old law was changed.

The question is what the Consular Information in Washington means when they say "Legal Alien". I think this should mean Residents, or.

  4. According to the experience of my friends which have kids with 2 passports (thai&foreign) it's no problem to come in on Thai passports at all and regardless of age.

My son doesn't have a Thai PP as both parents are foreigners. I just wonder what would happen if he is let's say 14 years and will go abroad and we present a empty passport and his birth certificate showing that he is born here. Will that be an overstay?

  5. I would like to ask for advice on the following issue:

    - My girlfriend (not wife) from the Philippines and I are living on non-b visas here for 4 years.

    - Our son (4 years old) is born in Thailand but doesn't have a Thai passport.

Every time we leave the country (e.g. visa run) the immigration simply stamps him out and fills in something in a book. No problems so far. When re-entering Thailand he just get a new 30-day stamp. Last time we went to Ranong to the casino island and the immigration wrote something in my sons passport. Upon asking they said something like "overstay no problem until he is 7 years". I have a friend, who left with his 8 year old son at Don Muang and he was told this rule (if any) applies up to 12 year old children.

Is anybody having a similiar experience with this?
