To clarify on this post, I'm now a Councillor for people in dark places, and trust me there are many, now in my life I can open up and help people who are or were in my place 13 years ago.
What I was really trying to say is, Thailand is a special place in my heart, it saved me it made me realise life is special, if you find that happiness then you will understand.
But unfortunately living in a country that saved you or more importantly a country that you love is easier said than done if you're not financially able to do. All I said in my post is if your in a better financial situation, then your lucky.
I wasted my life, I will get back there but I will never be in a position to live there all the time.
But after all this, I admire the people who never have to go back to their country of origin.
Take care all.

Hi everyone,
I always look and listen to posts on here and my experience is the people who complain about Thailand are the people who live there.
My little story is a bit different.
13 years ago I went to Thailand to end it all, after getting off the plane and 3 days later I realised life is special, the Thai life appealed too me, to cut a long story short, now back in Thailand I have a lovely daughter, unfortunately not with my wife anymore my love for her will never die and to the haters of thai women.......it was all my fault......what I'm trying to say is with tears in my eyes, if people have the financial gains to live in Thailand ,then do it, unfortunately for me my living is in London, I'm a London cab driver and I have to go back to a country I can't stand anymore, what with its political <deleted>.
People say Thailand is corrupt, well thank god people are starting to see how corrupt the west is.
I really wish I could write properly but to the expats who live back in Thailand I will say this....come back to the west for even a holiday and trust me, you will never complain about Thailand again, as for me I really think its over.
My body is now in London but my heart and soul is back in Thailand and you can't live a life like that.
God bless all.....

It might sound trivial, but please don't say taxi, it was probably a mini cab.
You could of gone to the proper rank and got a proper taxi, it's all swings and roundabouts, it might of cost you a bit more on the fare but you could of saved on the car park charges.

I guess a lot of people ask that question before they come to Thailand, you can figure it all out before you move here.
Once you are here what are you going to do?Sit around all day?Nice for the first few months but the shine does wear
of fast.
Do you have hobbies?Fishing? Traveling?Golf? All cost money and you will need to find something to occupy
your time.
I have seen a lot of people turn slowly into alcoholics.
Thailand is a great country to stay imo but it is not for everyone.
Learn to say no and choose your friends carefully.
Post of the day.

If the op doesn't know by now and the wife is not responding, then there might be something wrong with the relationship. Only saying and this is from the wife. (Thai )

Far more such relationships end up in divorce though, the odds are against it working, but good luck to the ones where it has.
I would also like to see your statistics for your comment. I know many that have gone back and been very happy. Difference is the op is speaking honestly though TV.

sorry brewter, but that's what I mean, you said you got your child's British passport easily, but Thailand is not the same, abd before I get shouted down, Thailand has it right,
The reason is, dual nationality is not the same anymore, if a child is born outside the kingdom, the child is alien. But the uk as we know will give British citizenship to a donkey.
as said before, the best way to have a child, is to be born in Thailand, and the father can register the child in the UK. Hence the child has no problems with the Thai side because he /she will have thai citizenship, and also be able to have a British passport. End of.
But surely a baby born to a Thai mother in the UK will also be entitled to dual citizenship?
well said and very straightforward. Is the babies father British? If the baby is born in the UK it will have British citizenship. However if the baby is born in Thailand and the father is British it will have dual citizenship. A lot more convenient if your friend spends most of his time in Thailand with the Thai mother. There's no need to register a birth in Thailand in order to have a British passport. As long as one parent is eligible to pass on their British citizenship, you can just apply for a passport. I got my 9 month old son (born in Thailand, mother from Laos) a UK passport very easily.
My query was why a baby born in the UK with a Thai parent would have difficulty getting dual nationality?

Mind you, in a few years time if the uk keeps going the way it is, who would want a British passport?

This is the first post I'm doing, but I'm doing with a heavy heart. I do this not caring about trolls or people who might slate me.
Politicians are all scum, especially the ones in Britain, we now have a referendum in the UK now and all I can see is self interest. Europe has <deleted> the uk, but people still want to stay in. People forget all to quickly about the Kuwait war Iraq war Afghanistan war, where the french backed out. Sorry I'm trying to think who was there. Oh yeah I know (the Americans) or shall I say the Americans first then us.i know America has its problems, but by christ, I would rather be part of America than part of a cowardly Europe. Sorry if I have offended anyone.
