  1. I thought one had to have an malaysian entry and exit stamp when doing the airasia KL bounce? nice shortcut if you don't but always thought it was required for some reason, then again arrival immigration then escalator walkway through the shopping center up to departures and then through passport and security again is usually less than 30 mins all in and better choice of food places outside the secure area if time permits

You are correct that this can be insisted upon. You must leave Thailand and enter another country before returning. However, some (most?) immigration officials seem willing to overlook this if sure you really did fly out and back.

    Absolute rubbish!

I can fly into and out of Aus without a single mark on PS. Same KL.

No way any country can tell you or enforce you need to go another country before coming back. Just have exit stamp and then re-entry.

Use some practical knowledge - once you have left.

its not their business. Can go to Mars, any country, sleep in departure lounge. Whatever.

Proof of funds and genuine reason good enough.

Hearsay and Fact get overrun here

  2. Thank you for your report, though some are going to claim you are triumphalist about your "offences". The risk of a 5-year ban is real. I suspect arrest and deportation with blacklisting is more likely to happen to certain nationalities. However, if you run into the wrong roadblock at the wrong time, no one on overstay is completely safe.

Certainly NOT triumphalist (keep Trump out of this). My point is these people spreading this have neither the knowledge or common sense. It is purely on hearsay. This hearsay can cause a lot of unnecessary stress. Maybe someone cannot afford to pay, maybe their working their butt off but cannot get that one step ahead. Maybe their kids medical bills come first. Heaps of reasons.

Do take a moment to think of the BS that these Immigration officers face day in day out without any real acknowledgement. There was a Viet pair of middle aged women in front of me who didn't understand why they should fill out departure forms. I could not do that job; the sheer patience dealing with people who cannot line up! Thumps up to them!

My experience, not hearsay, if there's a problem dig a little more and you will see why...

On the whole overstay thing, being on overstay is not a criminal offence! Sticking up a bank while overstay you're still in trouble and not a good idea. Dressing like a hood, bikie, whatever isn't doing you any favours. It adds strings to the prosecutors' bow.

    Two things

    1. 90 days is the line in the sand. Do it at your own peril.

2, we have been warned to carry PS or copies (was always the case)

  3. Last post scares me a bit but flying in and out KL tomorrow. Not that worried about police and rumors of arrest. If Thai police starting checking every foreigners PS (20m + tourists per year) they would shut the city down, flood the courts and police system, overwhelm all embassies and basically crash their tourism industry. That said now isn't the time to be p*ssed acting the fool around party zones.

I was queried once entering Thailand as to why and it was simply valid reason (family) and proof of funds and not working. Worst case scenario I'll get PS forwarded to Malaysia fly to Cambodia chill out for couple of weeks then back to BKK.

If they want to get serious about people working illegally. Hit the Language schools. Teachers working part time mostly would not have a WP associated with that school!

  4. Thanks Saradit69 that works for me as long as Malaysia visa is just a stamp in and out, then Thai visa exempt on entry back into BKK. Enough for one page, and have receipt for new PS. Then pick up new PS and transfer entry permit across to new PS.

My understanding of the ban is its only after 90 days unless your charged and convicted of something which was probably on the cards beforehand.

    regards

  5. Aus embassy adamant I had to surrender the old passport to be given the new. Don't know why because I have previous old passports just with the corners cut off.

Normally gone yo Savanakhet and no problem with OS. By bus is fine. I know there they can look up previous visas as last stamp washed away in beer sad.png. Its just whether they will accept not having the exit stamp in same PS as entry visa.

Only other option I see is fly in and out of Aus where I don't need a stamp and come back on new PS. Expensive exercise!

  6. A little problem here and seeking advice.

I missed getting the 30 day extension on my tourist visa because basically I could not walk. Bung knee.

Same time my passport only has one page so I had to apply for a new one and once received surrender the old one transferring an expired visa onto the new passport.

I'm not working illegally or anything shonky. It was just a case I wouldn't have been able to walk up the steps or around at CW to get the extension. Aus Consolant will not issue new PS unless I hand over old one. If I just left on that one page I would get into Lao but no room for visa back into Thailand.

Do I risk going into CW when on overstay and explaining the situation?

Or is the best way have BKK emabassy forward the new paasport to Vietiane. Then go out on the old and back in on the new. Only problem with this is exiting Lao on a new PS has insuffient room on old PS for exit stamp and will still need to surrender it to get new.

    Any other meaniful suggestions?

    thanks

  7. Tuk tuk are cheap so don't worry about how close.

I stay Mekong Restaurant. Rooms aren't great but nice restaurant overlooking Mekong. Nice staff, good food and quiet. Wifi etc. Can easily setup laptop whatever in restaurant and work away.

Arrange with Tuk Tuk driver to pick you up next day at 1.00pm. 100THB Border to embassy 100THB to hotel. Give him a tip and your well looked after. Don't use the service next door to embassy for forms etc. Their available at the counter and my bloke checks I have it filled in correctly smile.png

    cheers

  8. The two government schools I worked at we were told not to leave before closing time but everyone did. Just don't make it too obvious like a bag swung over your shoulder.

We didn't have lesson plans just followed the books as per directed. I live close by to last place and if I had 2 - 3 hours break I'd go home and do the washing and ironing.

Might sound lazy but I was the only one who would turn up to assembly and classes on time and if I could help out in anyway I would. That's better then sitting on your behind whinging all day.

  9. Two ways of going about it.

    1. Identify where you want to live and approach local schools, or

2.Identify the schools you'd like to work in and be prepared to move (possible lease problems)

I've only worked in a couple for short periods but found I want to be able to walk there and not getting up before 6 to get ready and stuck in traffic. Especially coming home with bus crammed pack.

If you have the proper requirements its easy enough

  10. I don't know if Thailand's police force has an internal affairs dept,

    I suspect not,and if they do,they are not doing a good job,they

need honest (i know, difficult) investigators, along with the tax man,

to run a fine tooth comb over these suspect coppers, starting at

the top,as thats where most of the corrupt money ends up,and

clean house, don't know who has the balls to do this, but it needs doing.

    regards Worgeordie

Don't need such elaborate setups. Just look into cases of buying and selling promotions.

You think promotions are the problem? It's just a little bigger than that, we are talking massive corruption that allows; the theft of oil, people trafficking, drug smuggling and other such like, I think it would be a better idea to audit all the high ranking police, and army for that matter.

Fully agree. Its the top ranks that would be either setting it up or taking their cut. The little ones are only foot soldiers. Just disband the groups and split them up

  11. I cannot speak highly enough about the Thai manager or owner where I live. I have had a few accidents of late due to a stuffed leg. He takes care of everything. Checks I have beer, water, smokes and something to eat. Even trust him with my credit card. A farang teacher would kill you for knowing what its worth!

Funniest thing is I don't speak Thai and he doesn't speak English. It's all mimed and use of dictionary with jokes.

Only advise is make more sanuk and say thankyou a lot.

I would have loved to have this bloke and his family working for me in Aus. Attention to detail and honesty is impeccable

  12. Upon what basis would he be applying? Does he want a single or multiple entry visa?

Answers to the those questions would allow me to tell whether the embassy in Vientiane or the consulate in Savannakhet would be the best place to go.

Both a across the Mekong river from here so not far for either one.

He wants to apply for single "O" visa,

as well for spending few days in the city,

he never been to there before, so any recommendation, some idea about hotel prices or recommended places to stay, to visit, to eat will be highly appreciated, many thanks in advance

Savanket is easy. Nice place to stay is Mekong restaurant. Rooms aren't great but livable. Food is really good and friendly staff. Nice atmosphere over looking Mekong few nice cold beers. Last I was there seen a car advertising fishing trips. Next trip I'm going to try. Its an old blokes who sits at the bar each day wife who runs it. Rooms 300 THB

  13. Thailand will look like a one legged man in an ass kicking contest. Trying to get Chinese money. Everyone at TAT should be fired for being so stupid.....lol

    5555

Reminds me of a story I was told by an Aussie athlete (para Olympics). He was playing AFL going to tackle someone when his foot came off. He still tackled the opponent and was awarded a free kick with only one leg.....

  14. Kenny,

You can withdraw your super in full once 55 in Aus if your leaving for good. Then nothing else stopping you from applying for a pension on correct age. It depends on for many years you have work in Aus. Would stay away from any business in Thailand.

Stock market can be good or bad. It is an open gamble. Currency fluctuations also play a big part!

I've looked into the pension before and I don't think Ur eligible to receive it overseas unless you been back living in oz for at least 2 years? Correct me if I'm wrong. I think the required work years to qualify for the pension is 35 years so I'm ok. My birth year is 1963 so I believe even if I was eligible it wouldn't be until I was 67

Don't think so. My understanding is you only have to apply while in Aus. I know Aussies over here living on their pension and have meet others on the plane going back to claim. Centrelink payments you cannot claim while overseas but pension is fine.

Had a GF once who made money...

First selling perfume which she made up. Not bad money

Then buying old handbags and fixing up and cleaning.

Lending money at 20% per month. Stay the hell away from this. Reason 20% your not going to see your money back a lot of the time! Its probably also illegal

I I knew I could withdraw at 55 but I thought you had to pay some tax if you did? I'm under the impression after 60 you withdraw your funds tax free. I hope I'm right!

If you leave AUS for good you can withdraw tax free is my understanding. I'm not there yet unfortunately. My biggest concern is how to transfer it. By the time Aus bank gives you a crap rate, then charges fees, then Thai bank charges fees, I reckon you lose close to 10%. I can live on that for a year here!!!!

  16. Get a new passport. Systems cannot track it and its too much effort for them

    Wrong !

The immigration computers will link "old" visa history with a new passport .

No you are wrong. I seen it just the other day and I have 10 years ERP experience. Yes they can look it up but don't there's simple too many tourist to do full check. Under staffed uneducated then if you speak English quickly you lose them. And passports aren't linked. Worst case go apply in different country. No visa link
