Less documents to sign in the rest of the Thailand. They never asked me to sign a completely Thai document which is impossible for me to read or understand, and thats absurd.

Btw I heard they made it easier to apply for Permanent Residence now, however I broke my marriage visa renewals by one year after 5 recurring renewals and I'm at one year now, need to wait 2 more years before I can apply for PR.

Hi. Can you explain more about the Permanent Residence and what the requirements for that are? How many years of getting marriage visas does that require? Thanks!

I must provide a new kor ror 2 every year.

Costs you 20 baht per copy at the amphur.

Ok. We have a certified copy of Kor Ror 22 from the Amphur in Chiang Mai, where we did the Visa last. Does this mean we have to get a new one on Koh Pha-ngan, where we now live, or Koh Samui? Thanks for your help.

  3. Can anyone recommend a company that does ocean freight shipping of personal items? All we need is one large box shipped from UK to Thailand but all the companies I've found seem to only offer services for businesses or people moving house with a lot more stuff. Also, does anyone know if Thailand charges customs tax on used household items?

  4. Thanks for sending this list! It's helpful for sure and maybe we will try it on our own. It's just that the wife doesn't speak fluent Thai because she spent most of her life abroad so she feels more comfortable having a translator who knows the ropes. Sometimes these things can change depending on who you speak to at the office and we've learned it can be well worth the extra money to have assistance. That's just our experience though. They can be a bit difficult in Chiang Mai.

  5. We bought a car and stupidly did not get the ownership transferred right away. Now the owner has moved home and no longer has a current Thai visa. So now I'm wondering what we can do. Does he have to come back here or is there another way of transferring the ownership to us? I feel like this must have happened before. Thanks for any advice!!

  6. Does anyone have experience buying land on Koh Phangan? I live in Chiang Mai and have heard there's lots of mafia there that can make life difficult. I really like the island though and am wondering if it would be a good investment which I can also use as a project to build a nice holiday home. I hear there's an airport so am assuming property prices will go up. Please share your experience. Much appreciated!

  7. I'm thinking of opening a shop selling locally sourced organic products as well as some western products as there is nothing like this in the neighbourhood I'm in.

Just wondering if anyone out there can share some pointers if they have experience in this area.

Mainly I'm looking for recommendations for distributors in Chiang Mai that can offer consignment stock, where to buy equipment and general advice on opening a shop/grocers with cafe attached.

Any input is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  8. We moved into a lovely house in Mae Rim at the beginning of April. After about two weeks the frog croaking started. We have a pond attached to the house and unfortunately did not think about the problems that might arise from it before moving in. Needless to say the frogs love it and now, nearly June, it seems like the word has spread and we've got at least double the frogs than last month. We are just getting into rainy season so I'm guessing this will last the entire season. Is that right?? I haven't been able to find a solution online for getting rid of them other than spraying bleach everywhere which isn't really an option. Anyone have suggestions on what I can do here to keep them away? Are there frog repellents that aren't too harmful to the environment and our pets? If so, where might I find them? I've tried spreading salt around and spraying lime juice which I read about online but it didn't seem to work. They're getting so loud and are right outside our bedroom so driving me insane. Was thinking asking if some Thai people from the village would like to come and catch them but not sure how long that would solve the problem. Thanks for any helpful advise!!

  9. Does anyone know where I can buy rush matting in Chiang Mai similar to the one in the image? I need something at least 2m x 2m but preferably a bit larger. I am also looking for the cheapest place to buy lots of cushion fillers. I want to buy about 20.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

  10. OP, just wondering how you went? Did you find a resolution?

I'm in a similar situation where a dog owner is refusing to pay a penny towards his dog's wellbeing. She's sick and needs medical attention.

No issues bringing her to the vet myself but perhaps looking for a better solution where the dog is patched up and re-homed.

-Yes luckily I did find them a very good home after posting on a few different Facebook groups. Care for Dogs wouldn't take them but they suggested a number of different ways of reaching out listed below. Sad that people don't look after their pets. Really hope you find a solution.

    From care for Dogs:

"we recommend that you put ads on various online classified sections of Chiang Mai Mail, City Life, Thai Visa and CMCC Classified. You could also put posters in your local vet's office or in shopping centres and outside public buildings eg. schools. I see that you have already posted them on FB, have you tried the Chiang Mai Pets for Sale and Give Away Facebook page?"

  11. Hi everyone! So these little guys just showed up at my house a couple days ago and won't leave. They're only a few weeks old and I can't bear leaving them on the side of the road. Tried looking for mamma dog in the area but no luck. Will have to take to a temple today unless I can find them a home. We already have two so can't keep. Anyone in the market for a cute little puppy or know someone who is? Great for protection and catching snakes/bugs if you've got a yard/garden. I can give you some tick and worm medicine if you take them and drop at them your house.

  12. That's reassuring to hear mosquitos aren't a huge problem. However, rats and snakes didn't even cross my mind. One of the houses we really like is located on a rambutan orchard perched up on the hill and overlooking the rice fields at the bottom. This makes me think there will be rats which means snakes as well.. I suppose I should ask the owner what they do about this. The house's communal areas (kitchen, dining, living) are partially outside and we have a baby so I'm trying to take all the precautions. Such a beautiful setting though...

  13. Just looking to rent and have found a couple of nice houses that are located a short distance from rice fields. Does anyone have experience living near them and if so, is there a noticeable difference in number of mosquitos around? The houses are Thai style with lots of outdoor space and we are falang so mosquitos seem to like us more unfortunately. We're worried about being terrorized by the pesky bastards during rainy season which I know is inevitable but are we making it worse by living next to all that water? The fields do make for nice views and a peaceful atmosphere which we love. Also, what's the best mosquito repellent to keep around the house? Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

  14. We are in the same boat. My husband and I work remotely and just moved to Thailand about a month ago and deciding to settle in Chiang Mai as we both have fond memories of this city. However, the last time I was here was 7 years ago and I don't remember the air quality being this bad. I'm due to have a baby in July but am really worried about the pollution here and how that might effect my unborn child and newborn baby. I'm finding certain times unbearable and not able to take deep breaths when outside. We are planning to travel around for the month of March and then come back in April but I've read that the smog can last through May and this year especially due to El Nino. We have found some beautiful houses in Mae Rim about 30 minutes from Chiang mai and I'm wondering if the air quality will be much better there. It is not necessarily higher altitude but the area seems blocked off by the surrounding hills and there are no farms in site except for rice fields (which I don't think they burn?). I'm reluctant to sign a one year lease as I don't know if the pollution will be unbearable and don't want to have to leave our home next year for 2-3 months. I'm wondering if we should look elsewhere in Thailand to live but not sure where. We despise overrun tourist hotspots like Phuket and Pattaya. I've heard great things about Koh Lanta but I'm not sure if having a child there is the best idea as I'm not familiar with the hospitals. Any thoughts?
