But now his bar/restaurant (its a double front with one half being tables and chairs, and the other half clearly a bar, and guess which side has people in it at night?) can openly sell alcohol while the small bar next door cannot. Can someone explain how this is a Covid measure?

This is all about the student protests. The bars are always the last to be allowed to open. When he allows that, it means that all covid restrictions are lifted, which includes the right to assemble. He is so scared of the pro democracy protests that he will do anything, sacrifice anybody to stop them. Pathetic.

What a selfish, ignorant comment. Tell that to the owners of the thousands of small bars that are closed permanently. Tell that to the hundreds of thousands of people deprived an income. So the hundreds, maybe thousands of owners of small bars that are permanently shuttered are all selfish? There is a big difference between a small bar with a couple of people sitting outside to a large bangkok establishment with live bands, go go dancers and hundreds of patrons. The suits in their air conditioned offices have no clue about real life, and think they are virtuous to destroy many honest businesses all in the name of their sanctimonious, puritanical ideals.

This is the puritanical asses in government getting their way. They want to destroy the bar industry. But with some pretty big business interests in this not happening I wonder whether there are some ugly fates for these self righteous clowns

In my town the police came to the bar soi. Drove past all the bars with Thais drinking, and stopped at the one with a couple of Farags. Hats on, torches out, recording video, and told to close (thankfully that's all) then on their way. Talked to a policeman I know and he said their position is that the Thais would just be sitting and talking but not drinking, and the Farangs would certainly be drinking. Can't make it up.

So if someone searched on , say, "best places to retire" and Thailand has in the past been a well reviewed option, the results will bring Thailand results to the top, and that is what people will naturally look at first. Just a self promoting <deleted> article.

Unfortunately he, like the government seems to have an image of large venues with dancing girls and hundreds of patrons when he talks about bars. None of them seem to recognise that there are tens of thousands of small bars where people gather in small numbers to enjoy a social drink and chat. These have been ignored and swept up in the bans imposed by this draconian puritanical government. The result already is permanent closures in fairly large numbers, and I cannot help thinking this is exactly the result they are seeking.
