  1. Wedding planner wanted on Samui. My company has a top 10 google ranked wedding planner site for Koh Samui and is becoming very successful in lead generation. We are after someone who can takes these leads and coordinate with the Bride and Groom in planning the special day. Relevant experience is required, this role will start small but following agressive marketing then many leads will be generated and you could be handling up to 10 weddings a month. Need someone who can grow with the business, though someone who already have their own business and work permit, looking to expand.

Please PM with relevant details, how long you have been on Samui, your experience, age..etc... Leads coming in now..

  2. What are the Structural and Legal Implications for Building off Plan ?

    I am involved in a project building a 2 story building 18x12M

The First Floor has changing rooms on each side 3m wide and 3 units in the middle, 4m wide. The second floor will be bar and restaurant.

The structural plans have received approval from Tessa Baan.

After flattening the land, we are considering building the 3 units one metre higher than the changing rooms on the side. The changing rooms will have higher walls so that the 2nd floor will be flush.

What are the technical, structural and legal implications of doing this ?

  3. My girlfriend fell off a friends Yamaha Fino. She got away with a few cuts and bruises and the Motorbike had a few scratches and scraps. The owner of the bike has given me a hand written receipt saying the repairs costs 5000 baht which seems excessive. How do I go about confirming the price is correct ?

For instance, does anyone know where I can find the prices for spare part replacement for the motorbikes. ?

Also, any other advise on the situation appreaciated...

  4. Samui Deep well have drilled 270m for me in Chong Mon though still have not found water.. They are now having trouble extracting the pump.. The price for this distance is 450 000 baht without the pump so its way over budget. The adjacent property have a well at 120m..

I like the idea of a huge underground storage tank.. what would be the most cost effective way of doing this ? We are considering the concrete rings used for Sink Wells.. Is this a good idea ? Is their a better alternative.. ?

i think you will find you will hit a volume limit pretty quick with concrete rings. good for small volume, not efficient for big volume because of wasted land area.

i would use a poured concrete floor for sure and for the walls, either poured concrete or cement blocks.

poured concrete walls will be move expensive but stronger. if opting for cement blocks, lay a line of 6mm steel between every row.

remember that the hydrostatic pressure on a tank is directly proportional to the depth of the water only, not the volume. so the thickness of the wall needs to be greater at greater depths and less at shallow depths. this can save a bit of money. so for example, if you make a tank 3m deep, your wall thickness might be 20cm at the bottom tapering to 10cm in the middle then cement blocks for the upper half.

remember the whole thing needs to be rendered with cement on the inside for water tightness. use plenty of plasticiser on the render mix to reduce water content and reduce the chance of shrinking and cracking when curing.

one other thing, a round tank will be more structurally stable than another shape.

    Appreciate the advice Steve.. thx

  5. samui deep well charges about 200k (as of 2 years ago anyhow) and will drill as deep as necessary to find water. they take care of permits and everything. they give a one year guarantee on the flow rate and quality of the water but after that, you are on your own. i've heard of deep wells going salty after a few years as the sea water starts to fill in the space left by water removal.

you should drive around the area and find people with older deep wells and ask them how its working out.

a better alternative is a shallow well and/or rain gutters on the house and a huge underground storage tank (50,000ltrs+), it will cost about the same as a deep well but will never run into salty water problems and is far better for the environment.

  6. I'm using Samui Deep Well in Chong Mon on sea level ground and they have so far dug 140 metres into the ground and still haven't found water. The charge for the drilling goes up considerably every 20m beyond 100 metres so I am surprised and concerned about how this is progressing...

  7. That information is indeed correct. For those people that have requested further info..

Work has begun on the Samui Sports Stadium being built near Plai Laem temple close to Choeng Mon.

The facilities are being built on 3.5 rai of land and will include the following facilities :-

3 Floodlit, Grassed. Fenced 7-a-side Football Pitches.

A large sand volleyball court, Swimming Pool, Raised Viewing Gallery with terraced seating along with Bar and Restaurant facilities, etc.

A website has been setup for more information:

WWW.SamuiSportsStadium.com - Currently scheduled to open some time in August / September.

There is a Contact link on the webpage (currently in Beta) for more information.

  8. Plan start work on a sports stadium project in Samui soon, getting quotes from various builders for the main clubhouse structure which is on 2 floors and measures 20 x 12. One builder has suggested doing the framework out of steel as this would be quicker and cheaper..

What are the advantages / disadvantages of using steel or concrete for the frame ?

  9. There is a recent thread in this forum with all those details, in a step by step fashion. Its idiot proof.

Thanks, But I have that info since it was originaly published in DataBase of the Bangkok Post a while ago.

As I said in my post above:

What I'd really like to do is transfer money from Thailand INTO my USA Paypal account.

I have a Thai Paypal account now, but I can't figure a way to make a Thai >>>> USA transfer.

    Thanks,

    CS

You have a Thai Paypal and a US Paypal and you want to make a transfer ?

Surely you just send it from account A to B . or am I missing something ?

  10. Just curious, but why would Paypal suspend your Kasikorn A/c ?

Paypal suspend Paypal accounts, in my case it was for a 'suspicous' receipt of cash from my Brother in the UK. Having a few problems getting it reinstated as I need to get a utility bill with my name on it (advise welcome).. my Kasikorn account is linked to this and as such cant be used and cant be linked to another account.

?? Can someone suggest how I could get a utility bill or phone bill ?

  11. I have recently setup a Paypal Account that links to my Kbank account. I done some transfers and now paypal is asking me to provide a utility bill to confirm my address, trouble is I dont have anything. My bank doesnt send statements to my address, my electricity is under my landlords business name and I use prepaid sim card for my phone.

Perhaps I could ask Kbank to send statements to my address, or maybe I could take out a contract with a mobile phone operator ? :- Suggestions needed for something paypal might accept ? I am on a tourist visa.

  12. Does anyone know of a bank in thailand where I can openan account & apply for a card that works on Paypal where I don't have to provide a work permit ?

Yeah, Bangkok Bank :o I didn't have a work permit when i opened my account, just 1,000 Baht for initial funding of the account. Got the Visa Electron card right away too. Make sure when you open an account to apply for "iBanking" right with it - you need that to see and print statements for your usage of the card, and THAT you need to obtain the "expanded use number" in order to "verify" your PayPal account.

To open your account go to a MAJOR branch of Bangkok Bank as the smaller branches tend to ask for a work permit. Bring your passport too. When i got my account i only had a 30-day entry stamp from Cambodia :D

    Best regards.....

    Thanh

    thx for info...

I did try a branch in Samui and as you mentioned, they did indeed ask for a work permit.. Which branch in Bkk did you use ? Also, may I ask what country you are from ?

    Thx in advance. Sean

  13. Thanks for the site link to buddahbeach... very good. :D

Good news that we are having a cinema on Samui, anyone have any timescales. :o

I was driving along the road in Maenam the other day through a little bit of water and suddenly fell into a hole about 10 inches deep, I was so annoyed at myself I looked back in anger, and then fell into a deeper one. I'm starting to think the ringroad is alive, because it changes every day, still, at least I can ride my motorbike and not have to rent a jetski to get around it. :D
