  1. I drive on the highway daily and the minivan drivers are without a doubt the fastest and most reckless of all the idiots on the road.

    So true.

Why not install speed limiters in vans, buses, pick-ups, trucks ?

That could safe thousands of lives.

High speed is useful, and safer, for overtaking. How about installing better trained drivers.
  2. During Russian Occupation, many from the Baltics were deported, or killed. And many from Russia were relocated there from the former USSR. Thus, some very hard feelings, and nervous times, by the ethnic populations there.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occupation_of_the_Baltic_states#Industrialization_and_immigration

Ethnic Estonians constituted 88 percent before the war, but in 1970 the figure dropped to 60 percent. Ethnic Latvians constituted 75 percent, but the figure dropped 57 percent in 1970 and further down to 50.7 percent in 1989. In contrast, the drop in Lithuania was only 4 percent.[85] Baltic communists had supported and participated the 1917 October Revolution in Russia. However, many of them died during the Great Purge in the 1930s. The new regimes of 1944 were established mostly by native communists who had fought in the Red Army. However, the Soviets also imported ethnic Russians to fill political, administrative and managerial posts.

When I was there, I visited several museums dedicated to this. It wasn't a pretty sight. They were treated terribly under Russian (and German) rule. It's understandable they have concerns.

Get it right - under Soviet not Russian rule. Or do you still consider Germany as being run by Nazis? try to keep up. H's 2016.
  3. I'm very glad I don't live anywhere near this bloke and his eighty disease ridden, mangy curs. The stray dog problem is bad enough in this Country without individuals such as this feeding the bloody things. 50K a month, I'll bet there's many a Thai orphanage that could do with that sort of money rather than this bloke wasting money on these creatures.

OK I know I'll get slack from bleeding heart dog lovers for this, but I hate the damn things.

Love dogs, had one since I was 4 and many here. But must agree that caring for humans comes first.
  4. Thai face is more important than life.

    Especially a farang's life.

    Suicide.

I can't stand lying police who cover up deaths as accidents, just to save face.

Oh, am I talking about Thais or the Hillsborough scandal, where 96 people, mostly children, were "unlawfully killed!" by police incompetence and arrogance. But it can't happen in a "civilised" country, can it?

  5. I lost my Bangkok Bank debit card somewhere in CM last Friday.Wasn't really concerned, just annoyed as it was my fault. There was very little money in the account.

Went to Bangkok Bank at Big C Mae Hia at 10.30 am this morning ,spoke to a very pleasant guy ,teller, no problem he said.Gave him my passport and savings book, signed a few photocopies and

the application .Was out with a brand new debit card in 10 mins and no charge.

Lot of posters like to bash the BB.In 15 years I've never had a problem. Luck ? or are they just more helpfull. This was not the branch I originally got the card that was from BB near Chiang Mai Gate.

I also had a KB savings account many years ok, hardly used it and when i went to cancel they had deducted 50 baht a month as the account was inactive.Total deductions were 500 baht

for them looking after my money. I politely objected and all i got was "sorry" Of course they never told me about the inactivity fee when I originally obtained it.

Maybe because I've had a BBL a/c for 30yrs but recently an ATM ate my card. When staff retrieved it, it was ruined. They gave me a new card on the spot. No charge.
  6. "20 rai of land that had originally been owned by his parents but had come into the hands of Khanong"

A very vague sentence. How did the land "come into" the hands of Khanong? Did Chuchit's family sell the land to Khanong and when they spent the money finished wanted the land back? I have seen just such a scenario play out a few times here. Collateral for borrowing? Many details missing here.

THe way you have phrased this, you seem to think there is a reason for this action.

The story is really about Thai immaturity, poverty of their societal education, and a collective self efficacy of a pack of prepubescent adolescents. The is the standardised response, a socially accepted solution to feeling jilted.

20 rai = 3 hectares or about 8 acres of orange grove and has no equivalent cost relationship to three lives in our reality ...... but it does in theirs. That is the story, told again and again.

    Don't need details.

Immature, yes. But who? The victims didn't expect retaliation from an angry son? Stupid. Their arrogance got them killed. Most Thais (and l) will see it that way.

A rich man and his family are worth 20 rai? Who's immature?

  7. More like Putin is winning the fight against the terrorists. He is the one who has taken to fight to ISIS and the US funded rebels. Obama was backing the Saudi led fight against Syria but backed off because it would mean declaring war on Russia and China.this would have strengthened ISIS.

Exactly. Hasn't Obama been told? The CIA are increasing weapon supplies to ISIS.

  8. It still amazes me that people that have lived here for many years still dont know that almost every immigration office in Thailand practice the Immigration law after their own understanding of it. You can argue until youre blue but youll always be on the loosing side. The times i heard, yes but in Jomtien they do like this, Udon they do like this other places do like this, must be in the many thousands over the years. Its just a fact that it is like this, accept the system, its how it is, or dont accept and it will get you in trouble. This have nothing to do with TS, he had a legit question, it just came to me when i read som of the replies he got. Some, here they dont ask for this form. Yes what should he do, move up to your place because they dont ask for this form. Some offices ask for bank books some dont, some ask for special documents other dont, some offisers are friendly and try to help you through the process as smooth as possible, others are just a pain in the butt and like to make your stay in the immigration office as unpleasant as possible. One thing is for sure. Even if you have all the requiered documents for a visa or extension or whatever you are applying for, it is still up to the individual immigration officer to accept or deny your application there and then without any explanation. And that he or she individual officer can do, even when you have every asked for documents requiered by the Thai Immigration Law.

I've been here 30+yrs, last 12 Retired. Rule- Agree to everything, smile, and do what they say. Never contradict.

  9. I always get a receipt from the local Post Office, when I post my 90 day report, stating that the report has been posted, in case of any problems.

Me too, I post it outbound on EMS, about 40 Baht, and ask for an ordinary stamp for the SAE, they usually put a 5 baht stamp on it and charge 3 baht for some reason.

Seems like as long as you make sure you keep the EMS receipt they cannot screw you over.

    .

I send my 90 day docs by local certified mai, 18 baht plus 5 baht for return envelope. Never failed.
