  1. It's chemically impossible to metabolize alcohol into sugar. That would be about as likely as turning smoke into wood.

I guess I should have said "energy" rather than "sugar"....at least that is my understanding but I'm no scientist so am happy to be proven wrong wai.gif

  2. When it comes to beer counting calories is a little pointless. Low carb beers are essentially a marketing ploy as the body will metabolise the alcohol content as sugar and the only true "low carb beer" is a low alcohol beer.

Basically, like Dancealot said, the key is drinking less - I try to limit my drinking to a few beers a couple of days a week and it isn't always easy but it makes a huge difference. As long as you drink less, eat smart, and keep active the weight will come off.

  3. I wish that there was a local version of V8, but they always add someting sweet like carrot or pineapple juice to the vegetable juice and ruin the taste. bah.gif

Agreed. Same for the local versions of fruit juices in cans & cartons - pomegranate, mangosteen, etc.

Freshly-squeezed stuff (without the sweet syrup) is great.

You can buy sugar free fruit juices in tetra packs. Available in all the large food stores here.

There is no such thing as sugar free juice...only juice with no added sugar (on top of the copious amounts naturally present from the juiced fruit).

  4. I've tried the Pad Thai at the place next door to Thip Samai years ago and it was pretty good - The story I heard is that the place I ate at was actually the famed Pad Thai location but the one next door had better marketing....who knows?!?

Unrelated but I was somewhat surprised to see one of my photos as your avatar ohmy.png ....where did you get that from? I don't recall posting it anywhere.....am I owed royalties tongue.png

  5. I agree with Jingthing - He must've sent baht. I regularly send funds to my kasikorn account from Australia and always send it in Aussie dollars and let them convert it to Baht at the Thai end. You get a much better rate. I have an internet account which makes it easy to see what I get on conversion.

Usually I end up with very close to their published TT rate at the time of sending.

  6. Samsen soi 2 in Banglamphu (near Khao San) have an excellent little street food restaurant which does excellent duck meals. It's opposite the 7Eleven and the tables are outside and inside. It's not a fancy restaurant, however the quality of food there is decent and the price won't hurt your wallet either.

The food isn't bad there but they have a tendency to pad the bill out a fair bit.

  7. I'd give audacity a shot. It can export to mp3 (From memory you need to download an extra add on for mp3 exports but the program or the audacity website readily guides you through this. It is a very easy to use program and you can easily chop unwanted portions from the audio you record. You can do a lot more but it sounds like you just need to do some basic editing and recording.
