  1. We use a card called Panda. In sydney most asian shops will charge you $9 for a $10 card , $18 for a $20 card or $45 for a $50 card. With our $10 card we get anywhere from 130 minutes to 150 minutes talk time to a mobile phone in Nakhon Si Thammarat. I'm not sure why it varies so much but it is still pretty good value.

$9 divided by 130 minutes = 7 cents minute. Plus each time you call you get charged the cost of a local call.

  2. Listen out for the god-awful truck that blasts out the fight info for Chaweng Stadium every night down the main drag.

You'd have to be stone deaf not to hear.

It does get quite busy...get your ticket earlier in the evening...then have a beer nearby.

I wouldn't get the highest priced seats (like small armchairs) as their raised and a bit further away from the ring.

I got the second priced ones...right by the ring....great view.

Ask to go in and have a look well before the fights start to see the layout.

Finally, go to the "international" fights...Thai vs Brit, Thai vs Us, Thai vs Israel etc etc

They seem to be better "tear-ups" and it's interesting to watch how non-thai's fight...not the usual Thai way of looking at each other for the first round or two.

Finally, I think in Lamai they have women fight on a wednesday night...if that's your thing.

    Have a good night. :o

Thanks for the great info. Can't wait to get there. I'l be giving wednesday night a miss though.

  3. I'm coming to Samui in late Jan. for 3 or 4 days. Can anybody tell me what nights they have Muay Thai fights on at Chewang Stadium or somewhere else. I don't want to miss out on seeing the fights and will organise my holidays around this. Thanks

  4. Hi SS.

    Welcome to the forum :D

How much land were you thinking of planting?

    Good link sbk, thanks.

Thanks Udon. Got a strange feeling that this forum is going to become very addictive.

Looking at 40 - 50 Rai in total. We are still trying to decide whether to plant or buy established farms. We have been told of a few farms that are for sale at the moment so when we come on holidays in Jan we will check them out.

Ok, you may want to look at the Kasikorn bank website for land forclosures, might find a bargain, sorry I don't have the full url to hand. :o

Checked out your advice with Kasikorn bank. Absolutely no bargains to be had there. Don't know how they sell anything with the prices they are asking. Thanks for the advice, although not a winner, still much appreciated.

  6. "Personally, I would go for rubber, the price of natural rubber is rising, due to the rising costs of petroleum products natural rubber will become more desirable. Also, once the tree is no longer producing so much rubber the trees are cut down and used for lumber, makes some very nice furniture."

I agree with the choice of rubber trees...One other consideration is that palm oil trees are very hard on the land and leave it very depleted...

We currently have started 1,500 rubber trees on our farm north of Udon Thani...About half are 2 1/2 yrs old and the balance have been in the ground about 3 - 4 months. We are installing a drip irrigation system on the new ruberr trees to see how much better they grow with water year round..

Thanks for your input. Our Thai family have been telling us that rubber is the better choice for the same reasons. It is just good to hear this from an outside source.

  7. Hi everyone,

My Thai wife, myself and our kids are looking at moving back to Nakhon Si Thammarat after living in Australia for the last 15 years. Can anyone tell me if they are currently farming rubber or palm oil and do they think it is worth while doing?

I am new to this forum so am sorry if this question has been asked before.

    thanks
