Thanks Joe,
just noticed immigration didnt give me the first stamp to April 30 as per the first ministerial order. So thats why my stamps are out of sync with the new order.
" following announcement on 8 April 2020 by the ministry of interior British nationals who hold visas on or after 26 March 2020 will be granted automatic extension until 30 April 2020"
-
Entered on visa exempt stamp. Last stamp was for the covid extension. But expires on 28 April
-
I entered on 30 Jan 2020, extended till 29 March, got British embassy letter, under consideration stamp till 16 April and extension to 28 April. I was told to go back on 28 April with a new letter from embassy if i needed to stay longer. Now I am confused bcos Brit embassy say they are no longer doing the lettters and read on here automatic extensions only cover the 30 April to 31 July. What do I do? Anyone in same situation? Advice Joe?

Needed to get a non O visa which I obtained on the basis of having a child who is a Thai national.
Documents/proof required were:
Photocopy of birth certificate (childs)
Photocopy of passport main page
Photocopy of laos visa
Passport
2 white background passport photos
Vientiane application form**
Thanks for posting your report. Can you please confirm it was just the childs Thai birth certificate you needed as I have asked at the Thai Embassy in UK (need Thai mothers ID card), and at local immigration here in Thailand (need blue house registration book with childs name on)! So I was unable to get the non O for having a Thai child. I do have the childs Thai birth cerificate who lives with me but not the Thai mothers ID card or blue book as we are no longer together. Just wondered if it really is as easy as filling out the form, visa copies, photo's and thai birth certificate? Is that all? No mothers ID or blue book required?

Investing in property in Thailand is very risky. There is a high chance you will get ripped off, and your money will quickly dissappear.
Beer bars are also a bad investment. Every beer bar owner I have known has admitted he can't make money.. I have run an online business with 2 websites. which return 20%. It is a small business with a good return, far better than any bank with no risks. I am looking for an investor to increase my turnover so this business can develop and get bigger. It has been succesful for 5 years. I would be willing to share the 20% 50/50. so any investor would get a garaunteed 10%. this is not a sales pitch. I'm not interested in taking anyone's money., and I'm not talking millions of baht. In fact I would suggest spreading your investment around for safety. the first thing I learned when studying for my business degree was don't put all your eggs in one basket. In this case you don't even have to get involved in the day to day running, just sit back and watch the 10% add up. I have a Thai bank account and UK bank account so transfers to you would be easy.. You could start with a little as you want to try it out. I've been thinking of getting an investor for a while as the business could get so much bigger and you could invest as much as you want. If your request is genuine please PM me (not sure how that works but send me a message) for more details. No scammers please, this is a genuine offer. I need someone I can trust and you will get the same in return. I will see through any scammers so I'm only interested in genuine people only.

My meter reading in usually taken on 25th of the month, and the bill delivered shortly after. The bill comes direct from the PEA. At the bottom of the bill its gives a due by date of the 5th of the next month. You can pay anytime up till midnight on the 5th at any 7-11. They scan it and you get a printed receipt attached to your original bill. Never had any problem at 7-11. My Thai girlfriend told me this is the best way, because if you miss the deadline on the bill you will have to go pay it at the PEA office where there will be big que's of people and you could be waiting all day! She also warned if you miss the due by date they will cut off your electric very fast. So be warned. It may be difficult getting it reconnected and you will have to pay your outstanding bill, plus a reconnection fee, and it could take time. Not worth the hassle. I used to pay the lady who came round on a motorbike, but then discovered the bill was a different colour which meant she got commision which was added to the bill. Lesson learned. So I cut this out and go direct to 7-11. It's the best way. I always pay on the due by date. at 7-11. they never say you can't pay on a Sunday or before 3pm, that's rubbish. I always pay mine in the evening. About what to do if you are going away, I don't know. I rent my house so I would ask the landlady to pay it until I get back.
Not so easy if you own a house I guess. Hope this is useful to someone.

I have driven long distances in Thailand and its worth the price of a small can of coffee, or one of those caffeine based sport drinks to stay awake. 10 or 12 baht can safe your life and others. Always works for me. I recommend one every 4 hours and a 30 minute break.
It's a cheap life saver. R_d B_ll , M_50 etc not sure were allowed to name them, but I'm sure you know which one's I mean. You only get one life buy the taxi driver one, it might save yours.

OK Joe, Thanks for clearing that up.

Thanks Joe, I did see this one but there's no reference on the form for an ED Visa, is it just a case of ticking the non immigrant option at the bottom of the form then writing ED visa or education below it? I've done tourist visa's before, but never done an ED, so I don't want to make a mistake.
-
I have all the documents for the ED Visa application at Vientiane, but can't find the application form online. Anyone know where I can download a copy.

It's a private but government approved school for kids. The information I had was that it's a one year visa, (that will cover the whole school year) but you have to get extensions every 90 days at local immigration. I'm not in Bangkok.
-
Thanks Joe. I was thinking maybe its a month. I know you have to get an extension every 90 days, for 9 months to get the full 12 months out of it. But the school director said leave it as long as you can, so you don't fall short next year at the crucial end of term tests, as term dates keep changing. (The schools don't seem to know the actual dates. They seem to make it up as they go along). But I don't want to leave the trip to Lao too late and be turned away as it's an expensive trip. Thanks again.
-
I have just received all the necessary documents for my daughters ED visa application. Anyone know how long these are valid for?
because the school says it would be better to wait till nearer the new school term starts in May to go to Vientiane to get the visa,
so we maximise the time available on the visa to match the new school year. Are there any time limits on the validity of the paper
work??? The school is new and they don't know.

For other's reading this tread, the cost is $10 and depending on how 'experienced' you are, they will try for the THB500.
Its not the most exciting of places but well worth wandering around the back streets (for 2 or 3 hours) and visiting the temples to get a simple taste or Burmese life
I buy my $10 at a money exchange before I cross the border. Did it last week I only paid 340 THB for a $10 note. Saved 160 THB.. If you give the mynamar staff 500 in THB they could exchange it themselves later and pocket the 160 THB difference. Not saying they do mind, but..... better in your pocket than theirs.

I was driving down Sukhumvit in BKK, when my daughter pointed up towards the electric cables above and shouted " Look Dad a Sky Rat"! I laughed because it was a squirrel running along the cables. But I have since been told the Thai's call squirrels sky rats. So technically she was right..

Because people abused the system.
I know of a few retired barstool alcoholics that have stayed in Thailand for years on TV's and Visa exempts.
Could they be classified as contributing to the Thai economy?
One thing they are not, are tourists.
The message is simple for these types, get on the correct Visa or extension, or get out.
They are actually contributing to the economy, they buy their drinks which come from Thai companies, importers and distributors, they also have to sleep somewhere so pay for accomodation, and eat food too. I do drink occassionally but in moderation, so am in no way an alcholic. But those that choose to be will probably end up visiting a hospital in the long run, so another contribution to the economy. So your ideas are flawed again. You need to look at the bigger picture. I know we often encounter the less desirable and often obnoxious drunks but we don't now what made them that way. I do know of one who is dying of cancer so who can blame him for drinking.

Yes, great idea. It would be very popular, eliminate the need for border runs, and help by paying the 12,000 to Thai immigration instead of to other countries. It's such a good idea, and money maker for them, that I can't understand why they don't do it.

Could you explain why it is stipulated that you need to be employed for a METV? Given your own question as above.
IMO, they made a mess of this visa by restricting it to be issued only in your home country (for most, I know there are a few exceptions) and by the restriction of proving employment. Extract those two things out of it and they can save face while giving people the option of a longer stay in-country.
Yes they ruined the METV by limiting it to 2 x 60 days and requiring proof of full time employment and a hefty bank balance. Why? So what company is going to give 4 months off plus extensions? Not many. Long term travellers who need long term visa's won't be working in a company will they?

Exactly they are offering nothing for those that fall between those groups.

You are missing the point. Why should there be any limit to how long a tourist wants to stay. Why 60 days. They used to have triple tourist visas 60 + 60 + 60 with 3 x 30 day extensions. Total 270 days. You can be a genuine tourist for however long you like. Its only now they are trying to eliminate that. If an individual likes to travel that's his or her free choice. They are just making it harder to do so in Thailand.

What is the time limit in your country, people just come in and hang out with no requirements, I do not think so. Thailand has tighten the noose because of people living long term here on monthly visa runs, education visas, and tourist visas. I think not any more. Yes a few real tourist will be affected but not enough to put a dent in the real tourist numbers
Thailand has a big tourist industry, why try to impose restrictions like in other countries, and then destroy the appeal Thailand had as a relaxed tourist destination. They seem intent on destroying what they had, and in doing so destroying the tourist industry and its income. If they keep making it more difficult to stay here, tourists will go elsewhere. The decline has already started, hence their need to offer free tourists visas.

Just like to add i am not rich, but it doesn't take much money to live in Thailand, ask the Thai's. So why would any one have to qualify for an elite card to be a long term tourist.

If you can afford to take two years out, you can afford the Thai Elite.
I believe the authorities are making a statement by saying get the correct Visa for the purpose of your visit.
So by your logic (deeply flawed), all students on a year off to go backpacking have the funds for an elite card. NO.no no. think agan!
