  1. I can't see any problems with those rules. Follow them and you will have no troubles. Would you like to break laws in your home countries? Why all these useless discussions?

Nobody's circumstance is the same. A death of a family member or hospital treatment could be responsible for missing a renewing your visa date. Who knows? But an extra 5 days if you miss check-in at your 90 day/per month etc should be available.

  2. A farang reported today, that the police are taking the new overstay seriously and warned of police check point(s), specifically asking farangs to show their passports.

But since he rattled off a few Thai words and was wearing a suit, the police gave him a wink and a smile, and waived him along, with no need of showing his passport.

With that being said, if caught, deported, and banned for year(s), you all had more than a years notice to fix your overstay(s)..

I'm just courious if Mr. White Guy that cannot speak Thai, actually gets one of those long bans, or shares their story on how they were allowed to stay using this forum.

That could be a seperate case, politeness and even a few Thai words could make a difference. Same for every country, just depends on the officer.

  3. As a Thai national you don't need a work permit nor an immigration permission of stay. But careful - if you're a dual-citizen, make sure you entered The Kingdom on a Thai passport.

Why would it matter what passport they entered the country with if they are Thai citizen?

Thai, Swedish, Somalian or not, you are what nationality the passport you use to enter country X or Y.

If I entered on my Brit, I'll be classed as a falang, a tourist. Not a Thai, regardless of my ethnicity. Thankfully, there is a way for Thais born abroad to enter Thailand as a Thai, through a emergency passport or they scribble that out and write citizenship identity on it, as in my case.

The CI I was issued and use to enter the Kingdom seems to be a rare occurence, the officials at first were surprised about it, either that or my appearance caught them off guard, been told I look ambiguous and not clearly White or Asian, taxi drivers seem shocked I have a Thai id card and become more chatty. I was accused of lying at a hospital as well.

To those who are curious, my id starts with a 5.

Because as a dual citizen he entered as a his other country's/foreign passport he would be subject to the associated permitted to stay/90 day reporting rules...or a minimum raise questions with immigration. Like when he leaves Thailand under the same name but immigration shows him entering on a foreign passport and not a Thai passport...questions then begin to arise.

Don't be so suspicious of presumed illegal actions. Either way, I'm legally Thai. However, I assume questions will be raised if I travelled to another on my Thai and then decide to travel to another country on my English from that country.

  5. As OP asks how to apply for a Thai passport it would seem he/she does not have one so that answers the question how he/she entered Thailand. A foreign passport. Would that mean get a Thai passport. Leave Thailand by air and return on the Thai passport ? So indeed good question how did OP enter Thailand ?

Good catch....I expect he/she entered on his foreign passport.

I entered on something called a certificate of identity. Its a light blue piece of paper folded, on the back it says: The holder of this CI is a Thai national born in the United Kingdom whose birth has been registered at the Royal Thai Embassy in London as per birth certificate number ...../..... date: .....

Inside it has a passport photo, my signature, all my body details like hight, sex, age, profession, present address etc and on the next page it says in red: This certificate is only valid for the purpose of travelling to Thailand and must be used before ......, issued on ........, it's valid for 10 days after given to the user and they must enter the kingdom with those 10 days or it expires and they need to get a new one.

    Multiple red stamps etc.

I think its used for Thai nationals who lost their passport abroad an need to come home, an alternative to an epassport. or it is an epassport.

When I landed and showed this CI, the officers took me aside, checked it, said okay and took me to the Thai side of passport control and they let me through. No stamp in Brit passport etc so that means the only way for me to leave Thailand is to get a Thai passport or I am stuck here which would be problematic in the future.

edit: Looked on google images, its on there. Small blue card, about the size of a passport thats folded, previous editions seem to be a piece of A4 paper.

  6. It seems you have Thai nationality. Your ID card proves that but for some things you also need to show copies of a house book registry also.

The only way there could be problems would be if you entered the country using a non Thai passport.

    Passport application info here. http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/1415/21479-Requirements-for-the-Ordinary-e-Passports-Applicat.html

List of passport offices is here in Thai. http://www.consular.go.th/main/th/organize/21037-%E0%B8%AB%E0%B8%99%E0%B9%88%E0%B8%A7%E0%B8%A2%E0%B8%9A%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%B4%E0%B8%81%E0%B8%B2%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%AB%E0%B8%99%E0%B8%B1%E0%B8%87%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%B7%E0%B8%AD%E0%B9%80%E0%B8%94%E0%B8%B4%E0%B8%99%E0%B8%97%E0%B8%B2%E0%B8%87.html

Thank you, so there isn't any more documents I need to prove I am a national here? My name is in my fathers house. Like in England a national insurance number?

What about working? America has the green card, is there a document I need to work in Thailand?

What about working? America has the green card, is there a document I need to work in Thailand? What about if I need medical care? Is there a medical card? Also a driving licence application, I am in Rangsit.

The link for the passport only has e-passport applications?

  7. I have a Thai id an Thai birth certificate.

I just want to make sure I am legal here, many stories of corruption, "coincidences" happening etc. Is the Thai id proof I am a Thai citizen and allowed to work? Or do I need a work permit?

I'm just scared of being kicked out or sent to prison. Also where can I apply for a Thai passport?

  8. "Thai ID"? Are you Thai citizen?

Never noticed that Thai citizens need to determine blood group and it's not on the ID card.

    Where does it "pop up"?

Extra question, my surname is different on my British passport, will I have problems travelling?

    You have dual citizenship?

Transcript name on Thai ID card different from British passport?

    Holding Thai and British passport?

You will have problems traveling when the name on your booking is not identical with the name on the passport you show at check in.

Ethnically I am Thai, well half. I don't have proof I am Thai except my Thai birth certificate. Depends on how you see me, apparently I look iranian :P

My Thai birth certificate has a different name compared to my British birth certificate. I have a Brit passport and will obtain a Thai passport as soon as I take a photo for my Thai id, which should be this week.

Has nobody here ever travelled with two different surnames?
