  1. I currently have a work permit with my wife a dependant that expires in November. I plan to use Wise to transfer 1,600,000 baht into a Thai bank account in my name and hold it for two months, then apply for an extension of stay based on retirement for myself and for my wife as a dependant. I am over 50 but my wife is under 50 and a Chinese citizen.

I'm hoping this is straight forward, are there any obstacles I need to consider? The application will be at Jomtien immigration.

    Thanks for your help, John

  2. Hi

My Chinese wife is struggling to get a non-o visa to enable her to apply for a dependent visa in Thailand. I have a work permit and we have the required paperwork from the company I work for but it seems the process to obtain a non-o in China can take months.

So my question is can she come to Thailand on a tourist visa and convert it to non-o while she's here? Alternatively, can she get an extension of stay based on dependancy with a tourist visa?

    Many thanks

    John

  3. Natwest International used to do them but I heard they stopped last year. Would be worth enquiring though.

Others to try include Marsden Building Society and Al Rayan Bank. As a non resident you will probably have to put up a 35% deposit rather than the usual 25%.

    Good luck

  4. Thanks Crossy, that makes sense. The stacked filter doesn't looks as well engineered as the one in the video - it's just a stack of plain washers, but good enough for 500 baht. My water comes from the public supply, hence the need for filters!!!

Jeab. Yes, frustrating as. I had a leak a year ago and got someone in to fix it. His solution was to run a new pipe around the outside of the house and isolate the buried pipe. It looks awful and now some other buried pipe is leaking. Time for me to re-run the pipes myself.

    Thanks for your help.

  5. Sediment filters from Thai Watsadu - one has a wire mesh screen and the other has a stack of plastic washers that the water passes through. Does anyone know the idea behind these - is the ring type a course filter and the screen type a finer filter? The screen doesn't look very fine so maybe it's the other way round?

I asked the sales girl but my Thai language skill hasn't made it much past 'cor beer sing court nung cup'. She said they were 'same same' which I guess means 'please go away and don't bother me with your stupid questions'.

In the meantime I continue trying to fix my plumbing - got a burst pipe under the driveway that doesn't appear to be connected to any other pipes in the entire system but leaks anyway when the water is turned on...

    Cheers   John

  6. Thanks for your info John & Joe - yes I picked up the Suan Plu option from the London Embassy website, looks like I need to send them some feedback!

The certificate of residence is for driving license and car registration. It looks straight forward to obtain but I was wandering of they accept the visa exempt stamp. If not it's no big deal, I'll just wait until I get a 'proper' visa.

More important is the long stay visa option. I am hoping to avoid having to go back to the UK to apply. Is there any practical difference between the 'retirement visa' obtained in your home country and the 'one year extension based on retirement'?

The 90 day visa and one year extension can be multi-entry, right?

    Thanks again - John
