ask them to issue a card with your name on it, it will cost you but helps massively when using online as a "credit' card.

Thanks for the tip , its some thing I'm going to do ????

I wonder if not having my name on the debit card I submitted to the UK passport office may in some way play a part in the debit card being refused for an international payment in the UK.

Forget the word "smart" when using BKK debit card.

    Spot On ????

I managed to find a mobile phone number of the customer service person at Bangkok Bank branch where I originally set up the debit card and they speak decent English . So I telephoned him and described my current problem with the debit card and the UK passport office requesting a payment using my debit card number.  The guy said that if your Bangkok Bank  Be1st  Mastercard Debit card works in a Thailand ATM machine and you have not set your daily debit card transaction limit to low ( minimum automatically set at 5,000 Baht ) then automatically any international use of the debit card should work. One thing he did say was that Bangkok Bank is currently undergoing a maintenance period and that period ends on the 11th of this month. He went on to say that Bangkok Bank also has standard daily maintenance periods ( around midnight ) and should an international transaction be requested out side of Thailand during one of these maintenance periods , the transaction may be refused.

I’m still not sure whats going on.????

  3.

I have a Bangkok Bank Be1st Smart Mastercard Debit card ( chip and Pin ) and I have recently used that debit card number to apply for a British passport renewal . I have just received this message from the UK passport office where my passport is currently at ......[ We have been unable to process payment for £118.51 ] and then his message ....**Please note that payment is taken in the UK, so we would advise you to check with your card provider that the card you intend to pay with is valid for international transactions**

In the past I have used the same Bangkok Bank Be1st Smart Mastercard Debit card to pay for items on Ebay based in the UK . And my monthly private health insurance payment is taken from the same Bangkok Bank Be1st Smart Mastercard Debit card without a problem from the UK company.

I telephoned the Bangkok Bank help line and was told to visit the Bangkok Bank branch where the Be1st Smart Mastercard Debit card was originally issued .

As my Bangkok Bank branch is a 180 km round trip from my home I thought before I set out and go to my Bangkok Bank branch to ask questions as to why my Be1st Smart Mastercard Debit could not be used by the UK passport office. I thought I would ask others here for advice or suggestions on this situation.

    Thanks

    1. You can take your yellow tax card to Krungsri bank and ask them not to deduct tax on interest going forward. Only the first 20,000 baht interest is tax free. With 4 million you will probably go over this limit anyway.  If they don't have a tax ID number on file, the default is to deduct tax from all interest.

    2. You can file between 1 Jan - 31 March.

    3. https://www.rd.go.th/publish/index.html

You can do it here but it's all in Thai and pretty messy design.  If you go to the tax office and ask them to do it, they will most likely just login to the same site and do it while you wait.

Many thanks for your advice and answers to my questions it really helps ????

I have looked through other ‘’ claim tax ‘’ threads but as this will be my first time that I will be attempting to claim back the amount of withholding tax that has been taken from my Thai savings account I thought before I started the actual claiming back procedure I would ask here just to see if I’m on the right track.

    So ..

I am retired and permanently living in Thailand

I have a savings account with the Bank of Ayudhya ( Krungsri )

In that savings account there is approximately 4 million Thai Baht

That saving account has been active for over 3 years ( but never made a tax back claim in the past )

I now have a Thai Tax ID card

I have a bank account with the Krung Thai Bank ( with online access and ATM card )

    My next move …

So I will go to my Krungsri bank branch and ask for the completed form showing how much tax has been already taken from my savings account ( I can already see the individual amounts of tax that has been taken by looking at my bank passbook)

I will take the Krungsri banks completed form to my local Thai revenue department

I think what will happen when I present the completed Krungsri bank form along with my Tax ID card at the Thai revenue department is that I will be told that I will receive in the post at my home a document that I should then take along to my branch of Krung Thai Bank and the amount shown on the document will then be deposited into my bank account.

A few points I’m not sure on

    1. in another claim back tax thread this was posted …….

Note: if you show the bank that you have a Thai tax ID you can request they not withhold tax.

I am not sure exactly that statement means ?

    2. I am not sure what is earliest date is that I can take my tax claim form to the local tax department office?

    3. In another claim back tax thread the OP mentioned that it was possible to apply to the Thai revenue department ‘’ online ‘’ . I cannot seem to find how I could do my tax claim online ?

So have I got the above correct or have I missed some thing out , also if any one could help me with my questions 1-2-3 , I would be most grateful.

  6.

I recently sold a property in Spain , and now need to transfer approximately € 25,000.00 ( euro ) into my Thailand Bangkok bank account ( approx 900,000.00 Thai Baht ).

There several areas that I am concerned about.

Transferring that amount of money to Thailand may in some way trigger money laundering checks and cause a problem with my Bangkok bank account . I do have a UK HSBC bank account , that I regularly transfer individual amounts of ( £1,000.00 ) pounds sterling to my Thailand Bangkok bank account , with out any problems or money laundering checks.

The Spanish bank ( my Spanish Lawyer's bank  ) will only transfer money in Euro to either my Thai Bangkok bank account or my UK HSBC bank account , so I could transfer € 25,000.00 ( euro ) directly to my Bangkok Bank account but then possibly receive a lower currency exchange rate at Bangkok bank.

I could transfer the € 25,000.00 ( euro ) from the Spanish bank to my UK HSBC bank , then re transfer the money in pounds sterling to my Bangkok bank account so I should receive a better currency exchange rate at my Bangkok bank account.

As this will be the first time I have ever needed to transferred a large amount of money from abroad into my Bangkok bank account . I have had a look through some old posts , but I am still not sure on the best way to proceed relating to the possible money laundering problems and the best option to receive the money into my Thai Bangkok bank account.

Any thoughts , comments or suggestions on the above , appreciated

  7. I need some advice my wife has decided to help with a dog that was abandoned by a relative in Korat this dog is generally in good condition but has a skin problem which is causing it to constantly scratch and lick the the skin in between its paws and under its chin which looks red and inflamed in patches but after searching the Internet it may be some thing to do with an allergy . Reading different postings on TV it seems that many people only have had negative experiences where vets are concerned. I am hoping some one here may know of a vet’s in the Korat area where we can take the dog and hopefully sort out this problem any suggestion or advice please.

Assuming they send you a check, Stage 5 will not turn green until you cash the check at the bank and approx a day or two later it clears the bank which also updates the govt system if I remember right when I monitored the site for my returns.

And the check can only be deposited in your bank account (has a banner on the check saying such); not cashed immediately at the bank counter and then walk out the door with the cash.

That rule came about after 55Jay cashed one of his billion stang refund checks and was then robbed just outside the bank.  So now, the money must be deposited to your account...if you come take out the cash a day or two later then it don't get press attention as a tax refund being stolen; instead, it's just a common, everyday robbery/mugging.

Does that mean that you can '' only ''  deposit the check in the same bank account where the refund came from?

  9. Just an update

I checked on the Government Tax office web site to see if my tax refund information that had been entered on my local small tax office computer had actually been registered on the government tax office / system.

'it seems that it had been entered .

Item A  = My tax ID number
Item B = My first name and family name
Item C =  Date information was received
Item D = Stage 1   information now on system
    Item E = Stage 2    processing
    Item F =  Stage 3   approved / not approved
Item G = Stage 4    money cheque sent
    Item H = Stage 5    money received

So now I have to keep checking the web page to see the progress.

About the same experience I had at a small town tax office, and I had the same feeling that it was too easy, something wasn't right.

The small tax office called us and said they couldn't process the refund after all, that we would have to report to the main tax office in the city.  And that we should take our marriage license, and other things, I forget the details now.

We went and the clerk with my documents asked questions and seemed unsure, so she called a Supervisor over who said she would have to verify my home country's tax treaty/agreement with Thailand.  I knew the answer but OK, let them do their thing.  A while later Supervisor returned said all's well, refund could proceed.

I was able to see the progress/status on-line after that.  The refund wasn't moving.  Wife called the tax clerk, she apologized for not moving it along and said she would.  Next check, she was gone on leave.  Next check, she had returned, and apologized again for not processing the return and that it needed approval from Bangkok (something like that).  It finally went through, I think it took 2 months beginning to end.  Others here have had better experiences.

That's why I decided to avoid fixed accounts and tax returns, and stay with the Krungsi accounts despite falling interest rates.  Will have to deal with it again now.  Hopefully can do it all online this time.

After reading some past  comments on how easy it was  going to be to apply for and get a tax refund I was hoping that in my case it was going to have a similar easy out come .

The tax office lady I think mentioned to my wife that my tax ID number was the password to use for the online web site where you can apply / check your situation . I forgot to ask the lady for the tax department online web site url address , would you happen to remember it ? .

    Thanks .

  11. Well I and my Thai wife went to the Krungsri bank to obtain the forms showing how much tax had been taken from my Mee Tae Dai savings accounts . We then took these forms to our small local tax office that had in the past issued my tax ID number.

We handed over the forms to the same lady who originally gave me my tax ID number card , each form consisted  of 2 copy's and a carbon copy , three sheets in all. The lady asked for my Tax ID card and passport and started to enter the forms information in her computer . She made the comment to my wife that we could have enter all the forms information using an online web page form to apply our selves ,  my wife explained that this was my first time in applying for a refund so the lady continued to input the forms information into her computer .

The lady took my wife's mobile phone number and said that the main tax office may call her to ask some questions and all so we should receive a SMS message on the mobile phone saying that a refund payment cheque had been posted to our home address .

One strange comment the lady made to my wife was,  if the the main tax office did telephone one of the  question they may ask is about me having enough money to live in Thailand . One other question the lady asked was do I have any other income / savings / pension in Thailand .

The lady did not keep any of the bank forms or copy's and I was not asked to sign any paperwork but the lady did comment that if we did not hear any thing from the main tax office within a month then go back to see here again.

I got the feeling that this small local tax office does not deal with many foreigners .

I came away from the tax office feeling that some thing did not feel right about what had just occurred

    Only time will tell .:whistling:

They sure didn't remove our KU band TrueVision KU dish when we cancelled years ago.  All they wanted was the settop box and subscription card back.    Too much work to remove a satellite dish/cabling, etc.

And when we canceled TrueVision "cable" mid 2017 once gain they only wanted the settop box and subscription card back....they left the cabling inside the house and the cabling outside the house which is still connected to the trunk line.  Too much work to remove cabling, etc.

Anything is possible, but don't be surprised if they say one thing (i.e., take the box "and dish" back) but only take the box back.

Good point , never trust what they tell you

It will help if you can note as accurately as possible where the existing dish is pointing, its elevation and angle that the LNB has been offset. If you are lucky the new dish will drop into the satellite footprint leaving you to fine tune its position using the receivers signal info.

Use google images to understand satellite dish elevation and LNB offset.

A local installer wont charge much to align a dish and to give you best signal for when its cloudy.

    Thanks :wai:

So do you think receivers signal info can be possibly seen by using the set up option on the True Vision box to fine tune the dish position . Good idea about noting the current dish position , may be I can take some photographs and measurements  before I touch the current dish .

Not sure what  - Use google images to understand satellite elevation and LNB offset -  means ?

The local installer ( only 1 ) has a poor reputation and un trustworthy , so I'm hoping I won't need to ask him to set the dish up .

  14. Thanks to every one for your suggestions

Just an update . I have been away from home and left the wife to get as much info as she can, then on my return I would sort things out .

So my wife seems to think for her the Free to Air channels available the True Vision True Digital HD 2 set top box would be the best . She got the following information from a True Vision shop .

1 cost of the True Digital HD 2 set top box – 1,690 Baht
2 cost of the dish -1,200 Baht
3 cost of the dish installation and set top box setup – 1,500 Baht

    So a total of – 4,390 Baht

My wife was told that both the current True Vision set top box and satellite dish would be removed if we cancel our current True Vision package.

The best option ive found to date would be to buy this package from Lazada for 2,475 Baht .

True Digital HD 2  Box + True Ku-Band 75 Cm Dish

    https://www.lazada.co.th/true-digital-hd-2-true-ku-band-75-cm-ku-band75-cm-2-13692634.html

A saving - 1,915 Baht compared to the price my wife was quoted at the True Vision shop.

The way I though about doing this was .

Buy the Lazada  True Vision True Digital HD 2 package before I cancel the current True Vision package , then I install the new package dish in the exact same position as the current True Vision dish and connect up the existing coaxial cable to the new True Vision True Digital HD 2 set top box .

Once the new  True Vision True Digital HD 2 box is up and running then cancel the existing  True Vision package.

Hopefully if I install the new satellite dish in the same position as the current dish , then every thing should work fine with the new set top box .

The only possible problem that I can see is if I don't get the new dish in the correct position but I'm not sure what I could personally do about that .

Any thoughts on my above plan ?

We have a True Vision system that is almost entirely Thai language, a few English such as RT, Australia+ that True doesn't charge a monthly fee for. Why not keep what you have and ask for that?

I have searched and searched to try and find out what the Free channels are on True Vision but can't see a list , any one know where I can find a current list

Made me laugh, I hadn't considered the aesthetic qualities of a dish.

So That means a metal coat-hanger in the back of the TV is out ?

Loss of face for a Thai woman who is  married to a rich farang comes into play  and a cheap looking indoor antenna stuck on top of the TV would not go down very well when the relatives come around to raid the fridge :crying:

OP, it may be just a case of adding a TV antenna to get the free to air digital tv (or even analogue). Otherwise, the local satellite guy wont be hard to find, its the shop with all the dishes out the front.

Thanks going on past involvement with local shops I like to get well prepared in advance with as much info as I can , then listen to what the local shops have to say .
