  1. I'll be transiting through Dubai with a 6 hour wait for my connecting flight. I've read on some travel forums that the airport is a nightmare with overcrowding, seating shortages, long queues & unhelpful staff! Is it really so bad? :o

  2. Boarded my dog several times with Michael in Maenam, but not for a while now. Don't know if its still the case but the dogs were housed in a shophouse on the street with 7-11 on the corner (same side, about 75m down towards the beach) & Michael lives a little way down on the other side of the road. He's a nice guy & obviously loves dogs and is knowledgable about their care. Cages are a reasonable size with wall mounted fan. If he's still there you can't miss it as you can see the dogs from the front through the security grill. Dogs must have a current vaccination certificate to board. No major complaints, only that the dogs sometimes seem to be left alone for quite long periods as Michael is involved with other business (Diving I think?). He has a couple of thai girls helping look after the pooches. My dog always came back none the worse for wear, with the exception of the expected sulk at having been left in the first place.

  3. Can confirm that the Sheraton Grande buffet at the Orchid Cafe is well worth a go when you get the urge for pigging out. The food was very good quality with loads of choice, & at a touch over 1000thb a head not bad value (I'm pretty sure I ate that amounts worth of smoked salmon, rib-eye & cheese alone!). Be prepared to wait a while for a table though - its obviously very popular.

  4. Owing to a balls up with our flights we face an unavoidable 1 day overstay on our visas. Can anyone tell me the procedure at the airport when we leave? Do we go to immigration as normal & then get 'hauled off' to another desk to pay any necessary fine, or is there an Overstay Desk before immigration that we'll have to go to? We will be leaving exactly 24 hours after our visa expires & are 1st ime 'offenders'.

    Many thanks for any advice.

  5. In response to all those people who think this is a dodgy offer - you couldn't be more wrong. If you watched AXN TV channel at 8pm on Thursday nights throughout Nov, Dec & Jan you could probably work out how we won this prize.

The card will be issued IN THE BUYERS NAME & they will have to accompany us PERSONALLY to collect the card directly from the Caltex offices near Don Muang.

    Hows that for validity?

We have now received confirmation from Caltex that the total value is actually 165,000 thb, but this can split on to 2 cards. We've had several offers & it will be going to the highest bidders who will certainly be getting a bargain.

  6. Personally I wouldn't advise trying to travel by public transport with your dog - although its not a problem on the larger ferry services, I don't think trains or buses will allow it. How about hiring a car for the journey? That way you can make regular stops without having to worry. Many of the national car hire companies will do one way rentals for an extra charge.

Also consider how your pooch will get on in a new location. If he's used to freely wandering you may have problems with local dogs defending their territory. Just a thought.

  7. Has anyone had their hair chemically straightened? A friend of mine in Phuket just had it done & it looks fantastic - really healthy & shiny, & the best bit is that it stays that way even after being rained on! Wondered if anyone had found a salon in Bangkok that does the process well.
