Yeah It's MY Opinion.....Because MY Phone has NEVER Worked in Laos,Even when I Cross the Friendship Bridge in Nong Khai,As Soon as I Get off the bus on The Laos Side IT Immediately goes Onto LAO TELECOM !!!

    Just MY OPINION !!

well just came back from Savanakhet  6th November doing non o multi based on marriage, last year my phone worked inside Laos and at hotel Avalon not real good but ok to talk to twins but this year as soon as I got over the border into Laos no service any where and I tried many places so something has happened.

just a couple of things same paperwork as last year (a listed above nothing extra) queue on Tuesday about 15 people at 9.45, all ok got visa next day, but 3 people did have problems but I could not find out why, Please remember to double check your US$ as had problems when obtaining Laos vis on arrival as they were older type but after talking to male boss they accepted them and then at Hotel they totally refused the dollars. just make sure they nice and new and crispy (u can wash and iron them to make them look good check google)

I do have one question if someone can help. on my thai visa last year it stated "Enter before 13 Aug 2019" which gave me extra 3months when I done border run on 11 Aug, this year it states "Valid until 04 Nov 2020" will I still be able to do border run if I leave say 3rd Nov 2020???????? and get extra 3mths Thanks

Also just to confirm Please use blue ink on signing all required paperwork

    cheers

The same as my experience back in Feb. Didn't know there was free parking at the Thai border though. I paid same as OP.

I got the bus across the bridge. It had disappeared once I'd done the Lao visa. I don't think it goes on to Savannaket, just picks up passengers going back to Thailand. So a tuk tuk or  taxi the only way in to town.

just a question on the secure undercover  parking on left hand side just before the outdoors free parking, is the price 100B a day as last time I was there they asked 250B per day please confirm thanks

How long does a transferwise transfer take, hours, days ?

Ive just finished Aussie transferewise (been doing it now 2months) I start transaction 5am thai time and get email confirmation within 1hr ie transaction starting, then by 1.30 pm the money is in my thai bank (KBank) on every occasion. Ive saved approx. 700-800baht every fortnight from using ATM withdrawals to using transferwise (and yes I was using ATM continue without conversion system) my OZ bank charged me $24 plus $5,00 and thai charged me 220 atm fee) hence the 800baht savings, I do recommend transferwise for ease of use great customer service and assistance and saving me money cheers

At this time Vientiane wants a medical certificate and police clearance to get a single entry non-o visa plus financial proof.

Savannakhet will do one with only financial proof. If using the 800k in the bank option the will also want proof you retired. If using the 65k baht income they will accept the letter from your embassy to prove it but may also want to see some funds (20k baht) in a bank as well.

thanks UbonJoe this is great info, just one more question on passport expiry date is it 5mths  or 18mths cheers

I just returned from Vientiane last Wednesday.  I went with a UK friend who was applying for and O visa based on retirement.  He had his bankbook details, Thailand address, etc.  The officer insisted he must also have a bank letter and refused him the O visa.  He got a tourist visa and will have to go back again in 60 days with the bank letter to get the O visa.  Oh well.

And that would be last week Wednesday, August 10.

Hi Mate is there any chance you can provide full details of documents required for a UK person requiring this Non -O single entry visa for retirement in Vientianne, ive been looking around and not to successful I wish there was a dummys guide fo this. thanks cheers

Savanakhet (or Penang) is a better choice than Vientiane, because Vientiane has started asking for a police report and medical to apply there for a single-entry Non-O based on retirement.

thanks Jack ill let my mate know, see my reply to OJAS above this poor bloke is getting very worried and confused, he has 800k in thai bank in early jan so that's no problem, and I think he just wants to go do border run and then off to immigration for retirement visa etc. Ive already told him to go to immigration and get their checklist of said requirements. thanks again for your help, As I'm on a different visa so don't know much about what he needs to do etc cheers

  8. 19 hours ago, OJAS said:

You should, however, be warned that a few immigration offices (in particular Jomtien and Maptaput) steadfastly refuse, in practice, to process conversions from the standard 30-day stamp (or even a tourist visa) to a 90-day non-immigrant "O" visa. Should your local office be one of those, therefore, your only option is to apply for a single-entry 90-day non-immigrant "O" visa on the grounds of being aged 50 or over at either Vientiane or Penang - provided, of course, that you can meet the relevant financial, etc, requirements.

thanks mate for this info, ill let him know about this as hes a bit confused, the immigration office would be Buriram and I myself have not heard much about them.  He is looking at just doing a border run via Udon thanni/laos, but he just txted me that he was told that he could only get 15days exempt (he has UK passport). has there been any changes to the 30days exempt run?? cheers

You can continue using your multiple entry non-o visa until it expires since it is not directly tied to you being married.

If you had an extension of stay based upon marriage from immigration it would end on the date you get divorced.

sorry if I have not understood this correctly, but the case is as follows. currently on extension based upon marriage due to expire april 2018, got divorced sept 2017, wanting to change to retirement visa, can this be done in march 2018, am I in trouble because of divorce in sept 2017??? if so what would be my options  I,e, leave country obtain tourist visa convert to retirement visa at immigration???? I thank you for any help cheers

  10. I transfer my pension to Thailand every month. The Oz bank charges $30 fees, and it's here overnight.

I once had the money sent up as Thai Baht, and it went missing at this end for some days. I sat in the manager's chair and said I'd stay there until my money was in my account. It took a couple of hours, but better than the 3 days it had taken.

Total fees from Oz and Thailand are around $70.00. I'd rather have that money, but there is only one other alternative.

Centrelink Australia will send the total pension direct to your Thai bank at no cost. The disadvantage in my case is not being able to pay off some credit/debit cards in Oz.

Maybe NZ has a similar arrangement for whole of pension transfer.

Westpac in Oz currently charging A$ 20 per transaction to Thailand and have advised that this will be reduced to A$ 5 shortly. transfer to Philipines is now A$5

Centrelink pensions are indeed sent free of charge but this is managed by Treasury who transfer funds via a four x dealer who hit you with exchange fees,

Yep Norbra seen that option from Westpac but the catch is they will send peso to philipines and maybe baht to Thailand so they will make profit from this way, but I hope not. im currently withdrawing pension with Westpac atm card via Bangkok bank and charges/rates are as follows, rates of the day 27/7/2016 Xe,com 26.2, Bangkok bank 25.9 K bank 25.8, withdrew 20,200 baht including the bank fee of 200baht using the continue with converson option, total A$769.22 (as per Westpac bank statement on 27/7/2016) exchange rate of 26.26, then the fees start, Bangkok bank 200 baht, Westpac ATM fee $5.00, Westpac international withdrawal fee $23.07 as per Westpac bank statement on 28/7/2016, so about A$35.00 total bank fees but the exchange rate was good.I have been looking at direct centrelink to thai bank but no one has been able to tell me the 4 x dealer exchange fees, do you have any idea?

    cheers

  12. Open a Thai bank A/C if you visit on a regular basis.

That's kind of missing the point, if a person's income/funds are originating outside of Thailand --- as they typically do for most tourists and many expats as well, who receive pensions and other income from their home country.

You can have all the Thai bank accounts in the world, and many of us do. But if one's funds are originating outside of Thailand, you still have to get those non-Thai based funds into Thailand for local access in one way or another. Using Thai ATMs with one's home country bank cards is a typical way of accomplishing that, especially for those who don't feel very comfortable carrying around/traveling with large wads of cash.

well stated that's exactly my situation and I can imagine a lot of others as well.

  13. And yet you keep coming back...maybe why it keeps going up. It's a one-percent charge on a 20k withdrawal (even less if you use an ATM that allows a 25k draw). It's seems reasonable to me.

Some might think it reasonable however I am currently traveling in Japan and I can walk into any 7-11 I the country and draw out 50,000 yen (roughly US$500) from the 7 Bank ATM with no fee at all.

    David

well put David, its not a reasonable fee and will never be. its just a thai bank rip-off

  14. Oh, and don't take out small amounts from cash machines as one poster advised. You'll b charged 180 baht (I.e. £3.70ish) per transaction usually, which will make for a really terrible total conversion rate.

oops its been 200baht ATM transaction fee for quite a long time now. and most likely your UK bank will change you an additional overseas transaction fee. listen to all posts about clean new unmarked notes that's very important also you could exchange a small amount when you arrive at the airport for taxi etc rates not that good unless superrich is open.

  15. I wish Bill and his wife all the best for their life in Thailand I had nothing but excellent service from them for over twelve years and consider them to be a great example of how good Thai visa service and advice can be. They are sadly missed by many people

I second that biggles45, The service has always been 100% and always prompt and with a great smile, I would get my non 0 (marriage) visa same day and he would come out for a chat, he will be missed cheers

  16. That's a nice story----we had one last year----I thought my vasectomy would keep my wife from getting pregnant again

But apparently it just changes the colour of the baby............................coffee1.gif

  17. Oh hum - there's always one isn't there!

Clearly reading comprehension is not one of your strengths is it? (along with any sense of compassion or consideration for others!) I NEVER claimed that my wife and I expected the British Embassy to fight our case, affect Thai law or pay for our legal representation. We only contacted them to see if they can offer us any help. In fact, it was THEY who sent us a list of legal firms offering 'pro bono' assistance - and the point I was making (which obviously went over your head by a country mile) is when we checked NOT ONE of them did so!

As for your churlish remark that 'pro bono' work is for 'desperate, deserving cases. You do not fall into that category'. So apart from being a smartarse and incapable of reading plain English, you are also clairvoyant! How the hell do YOU know our situation? And if you had actually taken the time to R-E-A-D what I wrote you will see that I mention we are faced with homelessness and pennilessness. I suppose in your self-absorbed world this does not constitute a 'desperate situation' does it?!

    well said gios,

just for some info, some embassies do assist their countrymen re attached link
