There are many Honda authorized repair shops, generally the Honda motorcycle shops will service the motors and other tools.  Your are better served by walking in to the dealer rather than phoning.

Good lesson, do not buy this kind of thing from Global, Home Pro and the likes.  Buy it from a shop that repairs it too which you can confirm with your eyes.  Problem has come up numerous times with various appliances and tools.

Montree on the SW corner of Super Highway and Chotanaa Rd, facing SH, sells and does service repairs on Honda stuff but if you are in Lampun, there is likely a place closer.

Sadly, there are not many authorised Honda repair shops, yes there are many shops that sell and repair Honda but the majority do not offer Honda warranty repairs or use genuine Honda parts. There are very few proper authorised repair centres for many large equipment manufacturers here in Thailand (Makita being one other example with only two ASC's in Chiang Mai)

If you decide to take a new motor to one of the unauthorised shops, you will find that the Honda warranty is void and likely you will get a substandard repair into the bargain, believe me, I have bought a ton of tools over the years here and the small mom and pop shops are mainly a bunch of bodgers when it comes to repairs.

I would quite happily strip down and fix the engine myself and know it was done properly but why should I give up 2 year warranty on a motor that has about 10 hours use on it?

No right minded person would do that with a new car.

I have bought Honda from many different places in Chiang Mai over the years and never had a breakdown within the warranty period, this is a first. Many previous times I have had motors repaired here at the local shops whose only affiliation with the brand name is that they have the brand name sticker on their windows and probably 7 times out of 10 their repair work is second rate and I would have been better off doing it myself.

One thing however, you mention the company Montree - well as it happens I just had an e mail back from them and they are in fact an authorised Honda service centre! They have told me to bring the motor in and it will be repaired under warranty!

So that is handy to know, and good of them to get back to me today as I wasn't aware that everywhere was on holiday.

    What is it used on?

Plus can you go back to where you bought it from?

It is a basic 4 stroke motor for driving pumps mowers etc. and it cannot go back to where it was bought (Global) as they only cover 7 days warranty.

    gx200.jpg

  3. Is Honda hiding these places? Do they exist?

I cannot for love nor money find an authorised service centre listed anywhere in Thailand where I can take my Honda GX200 Motor for a warranty repair.

The 2 numbers on their warranty card don't work and when you ring a dealer they pass you onto another dealer or tell you to contact the place you bought it from - neither of which is any use as the place I bought it from (Global) only cover for 7 days, this is three months old.

Their websites are useless, not one service centre listed for these types of warranty repair.

Anyone out there know of somewhere in Chiang Mai or Lamphun that servicers these smaller engines?

    Thanks.

  4. Sony have some pretty good models too depending what you are looking for - The A6300, the RX10 or the RX100.

I have used the Sony mirrorless recently and they are a very nice camera, maybe a bit too many options to be honest.

I owned Nikon in the past and would never touch another one due to poor reliability. Had some experience with Canon, but overall, Sony has proved to be the most reliable camera I have ever used.

  5. Trees can be planted at 2 metres apart, but will be slow in growing and spindly. I planted mine 4 metres apart about ten years ago from 6" saplings - , some are almost 100 feet tall already, never added fertiliser, soil is poor and clay like.

One thing I would point out To all those people that tell you that these trees are immune to insects - THEY ARE NOT! Especially when young and in the first few years, they are vulnerable to insect attack.

The next thing is the termites (Bluak) do not be fooled that they are immune here either. Even large trees of 10 years can be destroyed by these pests. They will eat all of the bark from ground upwards to over 4 metres in height. This can weaken the trees. Secondly, bluak can attack the roots where they enter the soil and even a 40 foot tree can be weakened at root level to the point where the tree will simply collapse in wind due to weakened root structure.

One more pest is a burrowing maggot like insect - about 2 inches long and about 3/4 inch in diameter, it enters the younger branches and eats its way through the soft pulp centre into the main body of the tree and effectively kills it.

They are hardy compared to many trees here, but not nearly as tough as Thais make them out to be.

  6. To be honest, you won't! They are the pest from hell if you have certain types of fruit - i.e. Mango / Rose Apple or similar. I have tried all sorts of different fixes including the Thai professional growers chemical sprays for the fruit trees and despite spraying fruit trees weekly, these damned things still get into the fruit and destroy it.

The only method I have seen that actually works is the laborious one where each individual fruit is wrapped in paper and then bagged in a plastic bag and stapled whilst still on the tree.

I have had literally hundreds of kilos of Mango / Putzah / Rose Apple and Bananas destroyed by these pests.

As previous posters stated, getting rid of their food is a start, but if you have any fruit trees around your place, they will be back.

You may try out some chemicals and if you find anything that works effectively please reply and let me know as I have tried many different chemicals and nothing keeps them away. (Thais seem to have a few different names for them too - Meng Wee and Meng Thong are common names here)

    Good luck!

I am trying to find information on google but all i got are reviews from online magazines or the company themselves.

Would prefer real experience from the drivers and motorist

I use Yokohama on my Toyota 4 x 4, they replaced BF Goodrich AT/S which in turn replaced Wranglers - there is no comparison. The Yoko's are quite quiet (AT /s ) Geolandar. They are the best tyres yet for wear and grip, excellent in the wet.

The Wranglers were Malaysian made and were OK, the but the BF Goodrich tyres were the worst I have had, they wore extremely quickly.

  8. I actually think I know what I have done wrong - if anyone can confirm -

I connected the TV as a 2nd monitor using HDMI, then my brain must have frazzled as I then installed Plex as a media server on the PC and used the TV remote to control it using the 2nd monitor!

I just uninstalled plex and ran UMS and it does the same thing.

When I think what I have done as a setup, it actually makes no sense!

I would still be interested if anyone thinks that this is the root cause.

Been running Intel Burn Test for an hour at max settings and the system is stable, run any of my two media servers and within minutes....REBOOT!

  9. Just upgraded my PC with a new MB - Asus Maximus ix code and a new processor, the Intel i7 7700K along with 32GB of new Corsair Vengeance LED RAM - 2 x 16GB.

Just to make it more interesting and add a few more variables, I now have my monitor (Dell U2412M) into a new graphics card - the Gigabyte GTX 1050TI via the DisplayPort.

I also now connect the HGMI 1 slot of the card to an LG 55UH61  TV, it is UHD, 55 inch smart jobbie.

Install of the hardware was not without issue and in the end a totally fresh install of Win 10 x64 Pro had to be done after biting some bullets.

I had a few instances where the MB would not boot and just sat there, that seems to be resolved.

Now for the main problem - PLEX Media server.

Whenever I try to run Plex using the app on the LG TV I get a BSOD on the PC, it just cuts out and then reboots. The Win 10 event viewer shows the error 41 kernel power as the reason.

Nothing is overclocked at the moment, ram is at 2133MHz. CPU at 4.2GHz. But this is totally repeatable within less than 5 minutes of running a movie on Plex.

Anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing it?

CPU temps. are low 40's, no overheating, PSU is well within spec, 750W Cooler master (The machine can run prime 95 all day and barely get warm - it is water cooled)

Only Plex is doing this. I have reinstalled on both TV and PC and no improvement.

I may give a different DLNA server a shot and see if it helps, but any ideas in the meantime would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

In this case it was clearly not out of control, she just could not be bothered about it, until too late.

Agree, also her Thai partner (Husband? ) father of the child could have quite easily have helped her apply for yearly extensions, and he and she would not have had to dance through the financial hoops that all of us here have to do each year.

Sorry but no sympathy from me.

Fake money for fake breasts (at times)? Are they going to arrest the women who went along with the offer for public indecency?  If farang was smart, he would say "I'll give you this" (showing what looks like $100 bill) "if you show me your breasts". Would have defense of "I didn't say it was real $100 bill".....

Good idea, like the sentiment, however I doubt the US Govt. will share our thoughts, they are pretty serious when it comes to passing off counterfeits.  Pretty dumb thing to do if you ask me, they will have his photo and passport details from his arrival it is just a matter of time. Dipshit! All the hassle he is going to get for a flash of a pair of tits!

    This is a water-cooled bike.

Why would you want to use a thicker oil?

    30

I have no idea, that is why I am asking the question, the oil is not THICKER, it has a different viscosity under different temperature ranges, viscosity and thickness are not at all related.  My  1969 Ford Transit was water cooled and it used 20/50.

Honda shops round here have only some basic single grade 30W oils, they are MA Spec, the Shell is MA2, which I assumed may be a bit better. Besides, it is bit hotter here than the UK or Europe, ambient like, I saw that Honda Canada approved 40 weight, just looking at what the reasons for and against actually are.

So the next point, if it was air cooled, like something like the MSX 125 would that make a difference? Honda specs W30 for that too, we have both bikes and want to find a decent oil that gives some good protection. The MA Honda is normally what people put in their 110 CC Lawnmowers.

Manual here if you've not already found it https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1021038/Fluke-106.html#product-107

If it's still working reasonably well it's worth contacting Fluke to get it serviced and calibrated, don't expect it to be cheap mind.

Got the manual Crossy, it just doesn't list what holding the HOLD key does at power on, seems like some display test and the r018 thing had we curious. Thanks for the link,  when the meter works it is A1.

  14. Hopefully someone can put me right on this.

My CBR manual states 10W/30 oil for the engine, however after reading quite a bit online and even replies from Honda, it seems perfectly acceptable to use 10W/40 in this machine.

Anyone used this Shell AX7 4T in their bikes? Is it any good or should I just stick with the Honda SAE30? - The cheap stuff?

    Thanks

  15. Curious if anyone owns this particular meter here. I bought mine a while back and have noticed after not using it for sometime, when I turn it on, nothing happens?

The display does not come on or anything it usually takes about 4 or 5 attempts before it fires up.

Once fired up it seems to work fine.

The second point is that it has certain options when powering it up, i.e. you can hold one light button on power up to disable the auto off of the light after 20 mins and the same applies if you hold down the shift button, it disables auto shutoff after 20 mins.

What I noticed on my meter was that if you hold down the HOLD button on power up it freezes the display as a sort of check of all of the LCD functions, after releasing the HOLD button I get R018 in the display panel, anyone know if this is a fault code or something? Googled a load of things about it today but nothing is mentioned.

If anyone has the Fluke 107 I would be grateful to here what you see when you power it on holding the HOLD button.

    Thanks

Honda has never failed me with any problems before. Then I decided to give the Yamaha MT-07 and fell in love with it. Quality-wise and reliability not up to par with Honda for my personal experience. Weird engine cut off issues from a stop and go.

Good to hear your experience (Not good for you regarding issues) but it is handy to know though as I am thinking of buying the R3, however, if reliability is an issue then it is a non starter and I will stick with Honda.

    Cheers.

  17. R15 - I have no experience of, but the R3, it is a totally different machine to the single cylinder Honda 300. You cannot begin to compare those two bikes.

The R3 is a twin cylinder machine to start with and is better quality bike altogether than the Honda 300.

It appears now that Immigration WILL BE HAPPY to accept my original documents from 17 years ago, I DO NOT NEED to go and get the KOR2 or Kor3 that they originally requested. (The Flowery "Happy You Are Still Married" Certificate)

They accept that as the marriage was carried out legally in a Royal Thai Consulate, that it is effectively "On Thai Soil" and therefore is valid!

  19. I was hoping Ubonjoe would be around this evening to try and clarify a few points regarding extensions of stay.

Applying for my extension this year I am using a lawyer / agent, but to be honest, I think he is under the thumb of immigration, he asks for 3 times more junk than immigration (for instance - previous applications they asked for a photo of me and my family at home - this usually consisted of a single photo of me, my wife and son, we duplicate it and pin it to the application - worked fine in the past)

This guy asks for 4 photos, two of the house " With Number" and 2 with family. OK, I send him what he wants, then he e mails me wanting more photos (all in electronic format so he can print them onto an A4 paper - which immigration would never accept before, they had to be actual photos.) So now he has 12 different photos, as some sort of neat Photoshop collage.

I think I covered the other point in my rant the other day about the Amphur Marriage / Family crap flowery paper, however, from what the Amphur said, YOU CANNOT REGISTER A MARRIAGE AT THE AMPHUR THAT IS ALREADY REGISTERED - i.e, my original certificate of marriage and marriage registration are valid and cannot be re hashed at the amphur???? (this is the Kor2 or Kor 3 document - you cannot get Kor 3 without Kor 2, and you cannot get Kor 2 if the marriage is already registered, another catch 22 in the realm of fools

Next point, the lawyer told me that I can only (This is supposing my wife was to die before me....looking more likely everyday)  apply for an extension to support my Thai child up until the age of 18. Now I thought that the age is 20? Anyone care to comment? (The immigration documents I find say 20, and are in line with land ownership and being classed as an adult)

Lastly, he told me that after the age of 18, if I was no longer married to a Thai, my only extension option was to seek a retirement visa!

I am sure, absolutely sure, that I have read elsewhere and that Ubonjoe confirmed that a Thai child can sponsor me in some way if I lost my wife due to whatever reason, i.e. being beaten to death for stupidity! - Yes, joking.

But seriously, how much of the lawyers spiel is real and how much is down to licking the butts of immigration?

If anyone can clarify the points I mention I would be greatful.

An added bonus would be the Thai points of law that could back any of this up so it can be taken to a higher level rather than argue with the automaton on the desk at immigration.

    Cheers!

And just adding to my previous RANT - They used to have a ticket machine where you could get a queue number, they disabled / unplugged it, then they STAFFED it with a 14 year old kid, then they unplugged it again, hence sitting in their <deleted> car park at midnight just to get in the damn queue! No wonder I have high blood pressure, maybe with a bit of luck an artery will pop in my neck at Promenada and soak the lot of them in blood!

Chiang Mai Immigration has to be the absolute worst in Thailand, it is like they are trying to grind you down till you give up, why can they not organize like Bangkok? It is a complete Shitfest up North.

  20. 14 minutes ago, ubonjoe said:

Have you registered your foreign marriage an an Amphoe yet? immigration will want a Kor Ror 22 marriage registry that is issued when you do it.

Never registered at any Amphur, never been asked to. It is not a FOREIGN MARRIAGE, it is a THAI marriage carried out by the Royal Thai Consulate. It has been good enough for immigration for 13 years! Look at the documents, they are THAI.

Joe, that is exactly the point I am making, the Amphur crap relates to people married in a non Thai environment, i.e. churches abroad etc. But this is a LEGAL THAI document.

Quote "Section 1457. Marriage under this Code shall be effected only on registration being submitted." - It has been submitted and it has been registered. i.e. the Certificate of Registration Of Marriage.

Personally, I think that immigration could be legally challenged on this one, on two fronts -

1: Are they now trying to say I am not Legally Married?

2: Why did they issue me 13 years of extensions based on marriage?

It is the sheer frustration generated by these Stalinist pen pushers, it drives me mad!

Year after year they want a bit more blood, they want to grind you down.

When I first came here they were just changing the law from 250K to 400K for marriage, then they changed the law to require a joint account with your wife, then they changed the law that the wife no longer had to sign over any land to someone else if she married a Non Thai, then they changed the rules about the bank accounts, they no longer wanted a joint account only in my name, then they wanted the money seasoned for a few moths, then they wanted photos of the frigging house, then it was photos of the house number, then it was the 90 day report (previously never did one for 4 years and it bothered them diddly shit) now it is the TM30, and now the marriage certificate, and now again it is the stupid bloody photos, they used to accept one photo of me and my wife (some were even taken outside Airport Immigration Office - when I forgot or they introduced a new law).

They were quite happy with a copy of one photo of me the wife and son outside the house.

Now they are asking for 4 bloody photos, which I supplied, (Showing me and my family standing outside the house) This now apparently isn't good enough, they want 8 photos of us posing around the frigging house, along with shots of the house and now the bloody surrounding land!!!

    <deleted>, when is enough enough?

The <deleted> won't accept a map of our home from Google - they want you to draw it, and then they say it is not good enough and need landmarks!!

What do they want a <deleted> Cartographer?

These people are insane and drunk on power, they need to be removed and replaced by HUMANS!
