  1. Some information circulating on the net, states that your international licence and home country licence are not recognised if you have been in Thailand exceeding 30 days. From what I understand, it is the INSURANCE COMPANIES ONLY that enforce this. This could mean you are not covered as you thought in case of an accident.

It is a relatively easy process to get your first "temporary" licence; valid 2 years.

  2. Jack Charlton ..... After England were beat by Iceland, interview with Jack.

Journo .. " Jack, if you boys from the '66 world cup had played tonight, what would the score have been ?"

Jack .. " We would have won 1-0"

    Journo .. " Only 1-0"

Jack .. " Well half of us are now in our seventies and the other half are dead".

  3. Where can I find the current price being paid for palm oil fruit; google information seems dated. Also associated costs per rai to harvest, maintain, fertilize etc. I am looking to buy 22 rai with 6 year old trees in Phang Nga / Krabi area. Constructive comments welcome. Thanks in advance.      Roger.

Useful info . But he still would need a bank account.

I got mine 9 years ago on a Tourist Visa , but as others say , I had to be persistent and ask at lots of banks.

You do not require a Thai bank account. Statement of your account from your home (o'seas) bank; plus a separate letter from the bank stating that that is your account. If satisfying the 800K then balance of account must have been or above for 3 months  minimum.

My local Krungthai bank refused to open account for me without work permit. It says on their website that if visa is longer than 90 days then OK. Pointed that out to the bank; still refused.

Went home and rang Helpline at main office, who confirmed I could open account. I asked them to ring and inform my local branch; rang me 1hr later and invited me to open account. Put in minimal deposit and now use Internet transfer between o'seas and Thai account.

  5. Recently moved to Phuket on retirement visa. At present using ATM machines to access cash from Australian account. Being charged 200 Baht for every transaction (10,000 Baht). Who has the cheapest option to do this, or is it more effective to open Thai account, taking present exchange rates. New member; thanks.
