  1. One friend was harassed at Suvarnabhumi Airport and the other at Don Muang. One said the officer took his passport somewhere for 10 minutes after asking him a bunch of questions about what he is really doing here and why he lives in a condo. I wouldnt have a problem with any of this actually but the thing is, if you are denied entry for some reason, you are forced to wait in the airport detention until you can get a ticket back to your country. They dont let you buy a ticket to somewhere nearby. So in theory it can be a few days or more before you can get a proper shower and sleep. I may even cancel my trip to Hong Kong if I cant get clear answers from them before leaving.

  2. On the surface it seems ok but my friend has been harassed both of the last times he went out and came back with a re entry permit with him (as mentioned, same as a valid visa). I guess the result is that he did get in eventually but it still puts a bit of a cloud over the flight back since it's impossible to know if gonna get sh*t on by immigration at the airport when coming back. Maybe somebody else could share their experience if something similar happened to them.

  3. I am in the middle of a 60 day tourist visa now and I have a trip to Hong Kong planned for a few days. I am going to get a re entry permit so as I can come back to Thailand after a few days. What are the chances I am going to get harassed by immigration at the airport upon return? I have been in Thailand a long time with tourist visas and they seem to be noticing this in the computer system. I have never overstayed. Last month I was rejected entry at Poipet and had to enter at another border post to get the only visa exempt I have had for over two years. One of my friends who also uses a tourist visa was harassed upon re entry recently even though his visa was valid with a valid re entry permit. Anyone else had problems trying to re enter at the airport? I can show them cash and an onward ticket if needed but what are the chances they can reject me entering on suspicion of working even though I am not?

  4. I have a lot of tourist visas in older passports but no exempts for years. Spent time out of TH a lot too. I was let in at another border post today. If I had not been lied to by who brought me to Poipet I would gladly have gone and fetched a proper visa elsewhere. Was pressed for time, now both time and money lost anyway. I hope reading this may save someone else the same inconvenience I had. Seems even with no system alert, some entry points can be fussy. Because since I was admitted then there wasnt a system alert for my details then was there.

  5. Yeah I dont know. I was aware of the other checkpoint. It's nice guys like ubonjoe and others always give out advice here day in day out. I guess what I have with me now is an exercise in not getting angry...my first time driving around western Cambodia... and perhaps a more cramped van ride back to bkk later today or some nasi lemak in malaysia tomorrow.

  6. No need to give me any sympathy my friend but hopefully other people can avoid what happened to me by seeing this. It would be nice if the visa companies didnt get their info wrong. i asked them multiple times if exempt would be ok. otherwise i was a click away from buying an air ticket to penang.

  7. I have 1 double entry tourist visa and 1 SET tourist visa in my passport (G7 country). I have no visa exempt stamps in my passport.

Can I do an out and in trip at the Aranyapathet/Poipet crossing to get a 30 day exempt stamp? Don't care if they ask to see cash but I want to avoid being stranded in Cambodia if I do this trip with the visa run company that goes to this crossing.

  8. OP , I realize you asked specifically about Penang. However your familiar with Laos by sound of it. Just pointing out that now AirAsia now fly direct to Vientiane. Approx 1800 return

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think AirAsia starts the nonstop DMK-VTE service on 01JUL16

I have a few visas from Laos already that's why I want to go to Penang.

  9. Want to ask a question about getting a Single Entry TR visa in Penang. After getting the visa, which border post gives the least hassles coming back into Thailand? Have been coming in at Nong Khai before and it has been pretty painless, not asked for onward tickets or to show cash. But I heard at some of the southern entry points, they ask to see cash or onward ticket or both. I don't mind showing them 20K but I would prefer not buying a refundable onward ticket unless I really have to.

Are there land transport services from Penang back to Thailand? All I know so far is there are a few places in Chulia Street that will handle fetching the visa.
