  1. This is the best story that I've read in months.

What was , in your drunken stupor, the reason you went back to the house??

    .WTH were you thinking ??

    90,000.....about 2,650USD...for a broken window..!.Good Lord

    Advice mate-

    1. you agreed to the price,, pay it

    2. stop drinking,,because you obviously can't handle it

    3. go to AA

    4. move. Because this is going to be a grudge for a long time regardless of how much you pay and how many ''sorrys'' you offer.

  2. Lonesome Dove, -(mini series).Incredible cast, incredible story, fantastic authenticity of the time, extremely close to the book..Duvall Tommy Lee Jones ,etc.

    IMO the

    best western ever made

Hombre- The dialogue! Newmans delivery. The dialogue!!

How Green Was My Valley-John Ford masterpiece

Between Heaven And Earth- Oliver Stones lesser known film..The film was based on the books When Heaven and Earth Changed Places and Child of War, Woman of Peace, which Le Ly Hayslip wrote about her experiences during and after the Vietnam War.

Spectacular cinematography. Hiep Thi Le is absolutely beautiful and endearing as Le Ly.

Angels With Dirty Faces- JAMES CAGNEY..

  3. Please don't bother posting the next ficteous story this one was boring enough.

And yet you were compelled to read it. More fool you.

I enjoyed it, op. There are many expat tools here that deserve being brought down a peg after trying to belittle the locals. That type is usually confined to Pattaya. A shame they've discovered other climes.

Thanks Dave..and I agree I've lived in CM for a year and avoid places like Pattaya . Sadly it really is'nt a funny story, but like another poster said...pitiful and makes us all look bad.

  4. Funny story. I 'm walking down Loi Kroh Rd. in Chiang Mai recently at about 6pm. Was near the moat and was passing by the bargirls. I was across the street when I saw this guy, about late 40's, early 50's who altho was not a complete bum... definitely had some mileage on him. Well he starts shouting at one of the girls. Who I think tried to grab his butt. Well he did'nt like that,,actually he should've been flattered that ANYONE would want to grab his ass ..he was pretty much a mess. Anyway he's not exactly in the bar ,but on the sidewalk .. suddenly he looks inside the bar raising both middle fingers and screams at the top of his lungs ''<deleted> THIS PLACE !!! <deleted> ALL OF YOU.!!! '' He does'nt seem drunk at all.Out from the back of the bar this Thai guy comes and punches him right in the face. The loudmouth goes flying backwards into a bunch of motorbikes. Funny thing was the Thai literally knocked him right out of one of his sandals LOL..Well the guy has now went from ''joe cool'' to joe cave in''.The fight had been completely taken out of him. He staggers to his feet..and surprisingly the bargirl helps him up.And helps him to a stool at the bar next door. His mouth is bleeding and he's in a daze. IMHO he deserved what he got..He's lucky he did'nt pull that a few blocks down the street where the Hells Angels headquarters are located. They would've dragged in the back and beat him half to death..Seen that happen before.

Have another similar story involving another idiot farang and the entire staff of a 7-11...I'll post that one in a few days..

  5. What's wrong with frogs? wink.png

    (sorry, couldn't resist)

I've sometimes seen fieldmice (hope that's the correct word?) being sold, they really look like big rats but I've been told that they're clean because they live in the fields. Never tried eating them although some of my Thai friends have tried to convince me.

You know that whole ''well it's a field rat so it's clean'' is B.S./ Rats eat everything ,anywhere. Feces ,(animal and human), other dead animals, rotted decaying meat, each other...etc.Not to mention the diseases they're infected with both city and ''field''.

  6. I live in CM..There are still half a dozen book stores..pretty well stocked ...but before buying ,look online to see if you can read the book you want for free. I bought ''Private Dancer'' then found later that I could've read it online for nothing.

  7. AssistThai Visa for 1,500 baht for four 90 reports. Soon after they moved part of immigration to the the zoo, I went into AssistThai Visa and asked their fees. I was quoted 1000 baht for 4, 90 day reports. The lady gave me a price list and I`m looking for that now, but not sure if I kept it. That`s a 50% increase in under a year. Wonder what it will be by next year, 2000 baht maybe?

It's 1500 if you walk in & only want them to do the 90 day reports.....I believe they do as many needed for the years cycle - at least they have for me.....

If you use them for any other services it's reduced to 1000 per year for that year's cycle.....

To me it's worth the 200-250b because it's an easier drive & parking no time waste or hassles.....

Either way I'd spend that much when you figure driving, waiting, & kicking around Promenada.....

Especially if the wife tags along & wanders around while waiting for 1-5 hours.....

I used AssistThai visa last December to switch my tourist visa to a non-o then to the retirement visa. When it came to the 90 day reporting , the first being March, they wanted to charge me 1500Baht for FOUR 90 day reportings. I used them for the entire retirement visa process and they wanted 1500...or 500 per 90 day rep. So according to what you are saying they're ripping me off.

  8. Most travel agents offer tours of the Angkor complex. For your $13 or so dollars you get an aircon van, drinking water and a knowledgeable guide. Much better than a tuk tuk.

A couple of years ago 'arrived for the first time and sort of got "adopted" by a taxi driver at the airport who turned out to be very knowledgeable and a great tourguide for the entire 3-day stay. I was a bit apprehensive at first, but it turned out great. His Camry was reasonably comfortable, he spoke English well, knew his way around, 'would've taken us wherever we asked, but was most valuable for optimizing the visit itinerary over the 3-day stay. At each site, he provided an informed brief and was able to answer questions on what we were seeing, then let us do the actual walk-arounds on our own with simply an agreed meeting time & place. To me, that was much preferable to a group tour. 'Can't remember what he charged per day, but I do remember thinking it was reasonable.

I'm definitely not a fan of tuk-tuk travel and don't really recommend them for temple-hopping in Siem Reap.

And I'm the opposite; I love Siem Reap's tuk-tuks (and loathe them in Laos and some parts of Thailand). They're usually good English speakers, hard workers and nothing beats being able to see clearly out of a tuk-tuk when driving round the temples rather than trying to crane your neck in a car or minivan. I've taken dozens of people around the temples and while many were nervous of tuk-tuks to begin with they usually found they fell in love with the experience when it was over. Even my wife, who was not a fan of anything much in Cambodia, said; "the one thing I will miss from here is the tuk-tuks" when we left.

LOL! You and your wife must luv abuse ...I lived and worked in SR for a year...the people were very nice ..the tuk drivers were HUGE @#$#Q#$S! CONSTANT HARASSMENT! .''massage, boom boom ,heroin, smoke, meth, etc...etc..'' most vile ,annoying and obnoxious I've ever dealt w/ in all of Asia
