  1. Thanks everyone for there input. Very helpfull indeed.

This seems to be quiet common in overy 60s men and women, like most people found while looking for something else.

Anyway thanks again, indeed nobody gets out alive.

  2. Just wondering if anyone has any info on adominal aorta aneurysm repair in Chiang Mai. Small at the moment 3.2cm. But  told to watch and wait untill it reaches over 5.2 before. Or would Bangkok be a better option when the time comes.

    Thanks in advance

Apparently he probably had a extension of stay based upon working.

It should not matter whether you have a single or multiple entry non-b they should of accepted you application. It is a non immigrant visa and that is all that is required to apply for a extension of stay.

Some offices seem to try to make things as difficult as they can. There no reason that you should not be able to apply with a non-b visa.

    Hi ubonjoe,

Sorry to be  such a pest, these hoops are doing my head in.

I have the above visa it expires on the 1st July, but the 90days are up on the 4th of may.

I have a Company, (director) non b mtv. My only options now is to try and carry on with the business. I am at the moment trying to get the paperwork together, question, do I have untill the 4th of may, or the 21st July to get them together.

They need as you know a group photo outside the business, but one of the employees has gone home and cannot travel back. His social welfare payments are up to date..

    Regards flustered

Yes I understand, maybe I didn't make it clear, I have a mev b visa I tried to convert to retirement

they said no, because it has to be extended first  in the Country first.

    I trien through an agency.

  5. Hi.

Just a question, I have mev non b visa expires 1st July. 90days expires on the 4th of May.

If I am allowed to stay untill 21st of May. Can I use that time to pull all the required paper work together, for 1 year extension  or only untill to 4th of may. One of the requirements is photo of all staff out side place of business, can do except one of them is in another state and not allowed to travel. Will that matter his social welfare payments are up to date.

    Thanks in advance

  6. Don't think the printed word is quiet as dead as some people think.

First 9 months of 2018 according to The Association of American Publishers.

E book sales 770 million wait for it, Book Hard Back and Paperback 4 billion.

As for American George been smart to get out, well all depends on what life is like for him now is he living the high life or roughing it in some car park. The few shops that are left, they still employ staff and maintain a good lifestyle. But there getting on now and as usual all things must come to an end.

  7. Backstreet moved to The Lost Book Shop, which they expanded. Its on Ratchamanka Road.

They have only one  friendly cat but is missing an eye.

On the Road, is another one, on Ratvithi Road, across the road from UN Irish.

  8. Thanks EricTH,

Was thinking for going out there but thought I might save myself a trip by getting the info here. Well did just that this morning and you do need residence cert, but only for retirement

I gather from the very helpful lady on the 2 nd floor as for me and any other with non b and work permit, you need work permit, passport, med cert thats it.

Thanks again for your civil response.

    Regards

Residency letter is required. How you were able to not have it and pass is another story.

I have had thai licence for the past 20 years, tranfering my original euro one for thai 20 years ago and  every 4 years or so renew it. Never asked for anything only what I stated, so things must have changed in the last 4 years. Thats it.

  10. My driving licence is up in a few months also, but on a non b with work permit. The last time

all I needed was copy of passport, copy of work permit, medical cert and old licence.

Is this still the case or will I have to chase down other form.

    Thanks in advance

  11. Not saying that real books aren't disappearing, but my daughter is 10, reads really a lot but greatly prefers a real book over the iPad.. (And she really likes the iPad for everything else)

This topic actually made me wonder if I should give the used book shop another chance, although they probably don't have a lot in the 'young adult fiction' segment.

Just a thought, from 1986 to present day there has been around 22 used bookstores in Chiangmai. Now there is 6 used bookstores. I could be wrong but as it stands at the moment, there is Backstreetbooks, Gekko Books,

Gecko Books, On the Road, The Lost Book Shop and Shaman Books. Stand to be corrected here.

The oldest is The Lost Book Store must be hitting 25 years or more, Backstreetbooks 15 Gekko is a revamped

Gecko under new owners. 16 years, Shaman 12, On the Road 10. gecko Books new owners, ratchamanka Rd, 10 years or so. At one point I think there was 17 operating at one time. Tough to sustain that anywhere. FolkGuitar could be right another few might go, but not the ones he thinks ?.

Sorry to see any store shut up shop. Its a tough game and the operaters in Chiangmai are getting old as well, all Farang owners here are in there 60s.

A few of them are getting into Teens and Kids books so you might be lucky Winnie.

Do hope all the above survive, but some have been going a very long time. The rent in 1990 would be a fraction of what they are now and yet there is still long runners here. You would have to wish them all the best of luck as they bring something positive to the Town.

new on here not new in town
