It doesn’t bother me at all. I simply answered all your statements with the correct information. If your happy purchasing goods at a price set by the seller, that enables them to make a good profit from you, then go ahead. Id much rather buy an item at a price set by what the buyer thinks is fair.

I don’t believe that your aware of how eBay works. Selling an item at a bargain price is not decided by the seller, it’s decided by the buyer, so they couldn’t sell it at the same price on amazon as there aren’t any auction type listings.

eBay sellers can most definitely make a loss, hence the thousands of bargains each day. An auction can end at 1p or £1,000,000. Auctions happen all around the world, dating back centuries.

eBay have millions of users daily and have been operating for 25 years. If they withdrew auction type listings then yes you are correct, they’d just be like all other online sites and they would also lose most of their customers.

Sent from my iPhone using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

The last I knew (unless the rules have changed), sellers set their starting bid price, reserve price, and "buy it now" price (never mind the scam of "cheap item, expensive shipping"), so why do you think they have nothing to do with how much an item sells for?  They have every control over that-- they can even pull and relist an auction if it's not shaping up to make as much as they wanted.

Again, nobody's selling things at a loss.  They may not be making as much of an up-front profit as some people (you can bet they're probably finding another place to make it up, though; they don't sell to you cheap out of the goodness of their heart and because it's their act of charity to spend their time and money just so you can buy things cheap), or perhaps the item is of cheaper quality than you could find elsewhere, but trust me, they're selling that item for more than they got it for.

Meanwhile, how much are you paying in shipping to make up for that cheaper price?

I don't understand why some people think i am a troll.

I am a 27 year old man. An accountant, do you think I have nothing better to do?

The troll sayers haven't read my posts carefully, obviously, or they would understand better.

I said I can offer her 10k-20k baht a month and 40k extra every 6 months. This amount wouldn't effect my life at home but anything more and it could effect my life in the UK.

However, i said she would need to go back to Isaan while we get to know each other better until I bring her to the UK.

She refused my money which was the 10k on offer to go back home and she doesn't want to leave Thailand.

What do you want me to do? Pay her while she works at the bar? No thank you.

Also I know how Thailand works, I have been many times. I have paid 1,500-5,000 for girls and even got many for free from clubs and dating sites.

She gets a basic salary of 8,000 baht a month with or without drinks, every lady drink which costs 140 baht she gets 50 baht from it.

The girls at the bar, all 8 of them put 15 baht a day each and get a big meal and share it together.

They eat once a day, so they can drink more and still stay skinny.

In the club's the girls drink for free if there is 4 or more of them. They get a free bottle and 1 random drink of there choice.

There taxi bike rides from bangla road costs 20 baht and 2-3 girls jump on the bike. This is if they are to drunk, if not then they walk home.

There cost of living is very low.

I think they spend around 900 - 2,000 baht a month and that is the max they spend.

I guess they send home 5k/6k and live off the lady drinks income, this is my guess of what she has explained to me.

The video chats are a little awkward, her English is a little better now, I would say like 5% also I am taking thai lessons 3 times a week and studying daily.

I know around 10 sentences now so we just communicate a little and laugh a lot. Like big kids.

Anything else you would like me to add?

You don't trust her, to the point that you test her.  You can't communicate with her.  You can't see her except for a few weeks of the year.  For this you are going to pay her money?  Why?  What's so great about her vs. any other Thai woman you could meet the times you are there that you feel the need to keep her on the hook year-round for a few days of funtimes every year?  This is seriously baffling.

Then there's you.  You're extremely jealous and paranoid that there will be other men yet you openly admit and feel no guilt over cheating on her.  You want to control her to the point of always knowing where she is.  You're apparently determined to take her back to the UK with you despite the fact that she's said she doesn't want to go.  If she's lucky you'll lose her phone number.

Auction type format(sort of silly?) - Why is buying items at a small fraction of their worth and cheaper than anywhere else silly?

Because they could just put on the price they want for the item to begin with and call it good?  A seller isn't going to set themself up to lose money on the items they sell, so I'm not sure exactly what the bargain is; they're still going to put on their overhead.  The auction format means that people play elaborate games to one-up each other to win the auction (hence why I said for some people it may be a "game" they specifically enjoy), means you have to wait days for an auction to end rather than being able to buy right away, means the seller has to do elaborate things with reserve prices if they start the auction below what they actually want to sell for (and then buyers get the further dance of trying to figure out just what that magic number is), means the seller might do shady things like selling the item for a penny but having shipping cost $50, and adding the "Buy It Now" feature rendered the auction format largely useless if someone can just buy the item out from under you outright when you've been waiting for an auction to end.

Sick of sorting though new stuff? - Simply add the word 'used' to your search.

And then every listing that doesn't specifically contain the word "used"-- and not every seller will explicitly put it in there-- will be excluded.  Also, the point is that when there is little to choose from that is secondhand, why would I waste my time at all?

Plenty stores around online/real life and easier to use? - Why spend your time & money travelling around numerous shops in the hope of finding what you want?

I don't do this.  Do you?

Online = same as eBay is!  Real life = no paying shipping (which is still well more than my gas to go across town to a store) and being able to see/touch/try on/evaluate the item before purchase.

    On 3/5/2019 at 11:31 PM, LammyTS1 said:

Not different than other sites like Amazon? - Didn't realise Amazon started using auction style listings enabling people to win an item at a bargain price?

Did I say that?  No.  Read the entirety of my post.  I said that if eBay does away with auctions, then they're not different from Amazon.  And if a seller wants to sell an item at a "bargain price," then yes, they could technically sell it for that same price on Amazon.

Anyway, as I told someone else, do whatever you want.  I'll do whatever I want.  Why it bothers you so much that I choose not to use eBay when it affects you not one jot, I haven't a clue.

No ofcourse it is not right but I have to have sex atleast once a day ????

Also i didn't want to post this as all the trolls will eat it up but here goes.

Just before she goes clubbing which is every night we face time, she doesn't reply to texts while out and she doesn't FaceTime/reply when she goes back to her room. If she goes back to her room that is.

Plus she sends me a picture every morning when at work and ignores the privous text that night ????

    Yeah shit is very wierd.

I wouldn't text or Facetime you while I was out with my friends, either.  Why should she?  She's out having fun and living her own life.  It's not about you.  So now you want to control her completely, from the other side of the world.  This just keeps getting better (or rather, worse)...

I am going back in 12 weeks for 10 days, she doesn't know. It's a secret, I want to see what happens during these 12 weeks.

Baffling how people can struggle with such simple things.

And has it always been that way?  Has the filter always actually worked?  Have people actually categorized stuff correctly?  Because those are things I see even commercial websites struggle with... it's why I rarely use stores' filters.

I wouldn't call it a "struggle," though maybe you put more worry into that sort of stuff.  At any rate, you like eBay?  Great.  Keep using it.  I don't, so I don't.  Not that hard.

I live right at a BTS stop, so can be on a BTS train in about 5 minutes from leaving my condo, however I always catch a taxi to the airport as its a hassle with multiple baggage on the BTS and then hot waiting for the train transfer, which isnt how I like to start a trip O/S. Its only a 30 - 40 minute journey by taxi on a good day to Swampy, but interminable time on a bad day. I always aim to leave home at least 4 hours before my flight. I soak up any extra time in the lounge.

Yes, I've never taken ARL with loads of luggage... I used it a couple of times when meeting at the airport with a friend who had a long layover, and it's usually pretty packed just with people; I wouldn't fancy using it with even a small amount of luggage.

I'm lucky that I've never hit bad traffic on the way, but I too aim to be *at* the airport three hours before my flight, not leaving home at that time.

yer right...there's plenty of salt in the instant noodles and in the miso and I don't drink the instant noodle broth (only to flavor the noodles) but the miso soup can't be beat...I can handle the salt content OK but not the sugar when it comes to breakfast cereal, the BP stays fairly steady with the salt but the BG goes thru the roof with the sugar...

the point being that it's good to investigate different things for breakfast, especially when ye don't havta hoard...a local khaao thom muu is quite nice but the jasmine rice plays hell with the BG...

try looking at youtube regarding the preparation of a french omelette and you might change yer mind about the eggs...buttery and melt in yer mouth, very nice...don't even need toast to eat it with...

If it still tastes even remotely like eggs, I want nothing to do with it!

I agree that people get "stuck" on the idea that only certain things should be eaten for breakfast... never understood it myself, but there you go.  People get stuck on a lot of ideas about food.

I useta like grape nuts until I saw the sugar content...and grape nuts is not a 'sugar coated' cereal like frosted flakes, coco pops and etc...the added sugar is to prevent the cereal from tasting like cardboard...

I usually make do with some instant noodles or some miso or a combination of both for breakfast. no need to hoard, plenty available in abundance...in indonesia I was trying to get folks to try the mie ayam (noodles in chicken broth) which is very tasty and popular for brekkie locally and a western colleague indignantly cried 'and what's wrong with corn flakes???!!!' he musta thought that I was insulting his usual morning repast...

You're worried about the sugar content of Grape Nuts but not the salt content of instant noodles??

(Me, I'd much rather eat "real" food than "breakfast" food for the most part-- I hate eggs and don't eat meat, so there's half of it gone right there.  Don't care all that much about pancakes, and not much less about waffles, though I'll eat both on occasion.  Though I do enjoy a good bagel, and cereal is okay as long as I don't have to have milk on it but not very filling, and toast is all right sometimes.  I'm good with crepes/blintzes and potato pancakes/latkes.  Otherwise I'm happy to pass on "breakfast food."

Also didn't give that much of a crap about farang food.  I didn't go to Thailand to eat Western food... I groaned every time people I was with wanted to go to some Western-food restaurant.  Even in the U.S. I'd rather go to eat Asian, S. Asian, Middle-Eastern, etc. than Western food.

I missed a few things while in Thailand-- for example, I was used to snacking on things like pretzels and crackers, I like spaghetti, love avocados, etc.-- but not enough to pay import prices for them.

Ive entered the Grand Palace with just baht ????

. But the important thing here is the fact that they insisted on a passport, and ran it through a computer.

Funny how when you try to be helpful and say, hey folks, here is what happened, all the experts come out just to argue. Im not into netwars to satisfy ego needs, Im just trying to tell folks that the old days are apparently coming to an end.

With all the cynicism about BIBs and Brown envelopes, wait till some cop refuses one and locks some schnoook up. Then watch the whinging.

Where am I arguing?  The discussion is about whether anyone's gotten into Grand Palace with an ID besides a passport, a thread full of people saying "gee I don't know, has anyone?", then I said I have, then even added a caveat that just because I did in the past doesn't mean someone else will now.  How is that argumentative?  Why is it worth singling my post out over everyone else's, including those who ARE arguing?

  12. I've entered Grand Palace with DL before.  Possibly more than once (can't remember, but as I don't carry my passport, probably).

But, I'll also have to "assume" as things could have changed since then, different cops might make a difference, etc.

Yes, usually people will ask for "passport" for ID because they assume foreigner probably = tourist and you won't have any sort of Thai-issued ID.  Usually I would say "Is my driver's license okay?" and usually, it was (especially since it had my passport number on it).

How can they be evicted if the house is paid for? Just respect the will. If you want to help guide them to a good lawyer and don't touch the money.

I assume the house has taxes, maintenance, a management company running the show that needs to be paid, etc.  A paid-off house is not free, despite what people would like you to think and whatever you might save over rent with the mortgage or lack thereof ought to go into a bank account for when the property taxes come due (they are becoming astronomical in some areas), the furnace or water heater breaks, the roof needs to be replaced, the pipes burst in winter, etc.).  Also, OP didn't say whether house is already paid off, or has the type of mortgage insurance that ensures the rest of the mortgage is paid if the owner dies or what must happen to make that kick in/what happens until it does.  And I don't know the legalities of a renter remaining in a house with a deceased owner; it's possible action must be taken by the executor/lawyer to enable them to remain.

(It's also worth it to note: I don't know about Thai estate law, but in the U.S., just because you're nominated as executor in a will doesn't mean you are the executor until you're appointed by the court.  So your Thai friend's inaction is also denying him the legal actions he can/must take as executor, if he chooses to take up that role.  You could perhaps ask to be appointed by the court instead if the Thai guy doesn't want to do it, but I'd leave it to the lawyers if I were you.)

  14. I agree with everyone else-- don't do any more.  I don't know about Thailand, but you could be setting yourself up for trouble in the U.S.  Losing money to lawyers will be unfortunate, but it will go worse for them if they just do nothing and badly for you if you're seen as mismanaging funds that you aren't even legally supposed to be touching.  If money needs to be taken from the bank accounts for bills, bring the heir/executor with you to do it.  If he won't... well... that's still not your problem.  Unfortunately, someone needs to get it through this family's head what needs to be done and how to act in their best interest.  They're not listening to you.

You're not responsible for them; you've gone above and beyond (and put yourself in danger of legal and financial hot water yourself) to help them; now it's time to act according to the law and stop putting yourself out there.  If your friend was this concerned about what would happen regarding this family's care-- and surely he knew they were like this-- he surely could have made some sort of legal provisions (does Thailand have trusts?) for this to be taken care of even if they weren't legally-savvy and capable of doing much... as he apparently didn't, perhaps you're more concerned about it than he was.  Put them in the hands of a lawyer and keep *your* hands off-- for your safety and sanity.

As others have said, probate will need to be involved in the U.S. since there's real estate.  It sounds at this point like the best thing to do would be to sell the house, though that of course could take time as well (again, due to probate).  My guess is that this family isn't going to be going to the U.S. to live in it, and it would be beyond them to manage it as a rental from Thailand, even if they hired a U.S. local management company, and they probably don't have the cash for its upkeep.

  15. I got weird looks, too if I said I didn't want a bag.  I dealt with it.  A few vendors thanked me (possibly for saving them the price of a bag, but also possibly for saving the planet from a bag).

If I had to faint away every time I got a weird look in Thailand-- asked for my coffee drink hot, went around with an Asian guy, was the only foreigner walking down a street, spoke Thai in Chiang Mai, asked for vegetarian som tam-- I'd have had to stay in my house all the time.

  16. Are there "standard" ways of choosing how to spell a name?  For example, probably not many people with my last name in Thailand so it's possible that when they put it on my ID cards, they're not going from any other precedent.  Is it possible to really just "choose" how to spell one's name?  Or could there be ways that either make less sense than others due to standard conventions, or could indeed be strange or offensive if one of the syllables, with that spelling, has another meaning (coworker Jim sometimes got a kick out of introducing himself to Thais...)?

(For that matter, I wish they had asked how they should spell my first name, because the way they spell it, the pronunciation is off.  And it's not like there aren't Thai vowels that would allow correct pronunciation... they just chose not to use them.  But, I'm sure, there probably IS a standard way to spell the first name, even if incorrect, so I wasn't going to argue it.)

  17. If it has the ability to go so horribly wrong, why not just let it be and find a girl old enough that you don't have to deal with her parents? Surely there are other fish in the sea without ending up in hot water over some kind of he-said/she-said, did too/did not game with the parents, and surely 18 is not too old to be a dealbreaker.

1961 was the last year they made Fatboys; after that it was the Slim. You can easily check by looking at the date code stamped on the bottom of the head of your razor, on either side of the handle. E= 1959, F = 1960, G = 1961. The letter will be on the left side and there will be a number on the right side, which refers to the quarter in which the razor was produced, i.e. 1, 2, 3 or 4.

Must be a '61, then.  It's been years since I looked up the date.
