On my few visits there I found the kids to be amazingly intelligent with an apparent gift for languages. Walking along the Phnom Penh river front a 10 year old vendor of trinkets approached me to sell something. Her English was excellent and I asked her where she learnt. She said tourists taught her and she wrote down anything new she heard. After an interesting chat ( with a 10 year old for heavens sake ! )  I was ready to move on and tried to give her a little money to encourage her in her studies .

Refused point blank to sell it and shamed me a bit by telling me she was not a beggar  ! So , I bought one of her wooden armband trinkets , accepted the change and off she went.

Finding an english speaking kid is easy enough.Hanging around the markeds and listening from a young age surely helps. My 6 old daughters english is close to flawless. She has words even I need to ask where she learned since its not in my normal vocabulary.I can only blame Utube and early tutoring.Nothing to do with inteligence IMO

"He said the agency wants to introduce an identity card for expats, helping to distinguish them from tourists so they will be charged the same price as locals"

Don't overcomplicate it, just ask for passport if they must

As you said.Dont overcomplicate it.It already exist an ID card for residing expats

here is a major count problem. many people get self tested at home. They get the virus but feel a little sick...sore throat, weak, little temperature.

They stay home, take a drug, get better. Many do this. they never show up in the numbers.

Exactly that. Why would you want to broadcast it.I would do just the same.Close the doors and stay home

Firstly, why is a tourism chief wearing a uniform, secondly does anyone believe a word TAT say?

They need to stop thinking that Chinese tourists are the best thing since sliced bread and take their blinkers off.

I know more than 39 westerners who used to spend way more than 400k when they used to visit as tourists. Me being one of them.

I couldnt help myself. For what logical reason would any type of tourist use that kind of money? That is just braindead

    Indeed.

She is quite smart but extremely jealous and aggressive.

I told her, she can be lucky that I have an education and that I was taught not to hit a child or woman. Other men just would knock her down with one hit. She just doesn't care. When she has her 5 minutes, she grabs whatever is close. She knows that farang don't touch Thai women and that Police would never believe a story from a farang man, re domestic abuse.

I also mentioned that she would think twice, doing that to a Thai man.

I gave her the last warning. Next act like this and I help her doing her luggage and escorting her to the lobby.

Do not belive all you read about police do not belive white men.Girlfriends do not get escorted to the lobby. They normally live on their own propperty.Sounds more like a holliday fling to me if you stay in hotel rooms.However.If you do live in the same adress and have the paperwork for it,you are equally treated by the police as a married couple.I would for sure dont take hitting from anyone.

I feel giving around 3.000 - 5.000 is a bit low. I guess it could be "kinda" ok if growing up on the Thai country side and grandparents take care of the child while the girlfriend works in some nearby farms, in the factory or in the city. Still, for the child I doubt it'll be a nice existence.

I'd say pay at least 10.000 a month for a child. Sure, 10.000 THB is about the average monthly wage here on the country side, but if it's your biological child, surely you'd want the child to be in a somewhat better position, right?

Better still would be to try to take custody of your own child, if your girlfriend can agree on that. You can make sure the child gets decent education and such. Can get a nanny to help take care, etc... More expensive surely, but imo better.

Best is if the child has good contact with both biological parents and both parents can get along well and both take care of the child, but I am sure that is out of the picture. There's been research done on children that are missing one of the most important figures in their lives (father figure / mother figure) and generally it can cause issues when the child grows up.

As a father it's also possible to get a dependent visa, so that can make staying in Thailand long term easier.

Have you read what the O.P is writing at all. This is a blackmailing female that he dosnt want to see again.Do not even try to put girlfriend into it.Most likely one that is payd by the hour and had 4 others before him on the same day.Why would he even bother. If he was a thai man she wouldnt even dare to mention it.

How does this square with advice on the internet from one family lawyer that states “For children who are born outside a marriage in Thailand the biological father is not required by law to pay child support......” At this stage I’m simply trying to understand Thai law, nothing more.

Listen to what you have read. There is no law that say she can take you to court. In here its just the saints on their high horse riding their own moral.

Yes, its not such a good idea to have unprotected sex with females whom you don't want to reproduce with .

You would have to be an immoral person  to impregnate females and disregard the consequences , I.E, a baby .

      Shameful behavior

Oh come on.I have had a few that pulled the condom of half way through.Do not come with your moral speach.

I will never understand these guys???????. If you absolutely have to buy a house in your partners name, then why not just pay minimum downpayment and let the rest be a bank-loan. This way, she can tell you to leave, but will be stuck with the monthly payments until the loan is paid off. (about 10 years). Should she be a scammer, then at least the loss is minimal and she is stuck with the debt.

If you buy a car in her name, do the same and renew the car and loan every 4-5 years. Seeing the monthly bills, will for sure reduce any scammers incentive to throw you out the house.

When my wife and I bought a house, we made a Thai-court legalised loan document and will, stating that she owes me THB 1.5 mill. and that I get everything in case of her death. My wife had no problems with that, as she also wants me and our kid to be financially secure, should she e.g. die before me.

What the hell is wrong with people buying everything 100% in cash in other peoples names?? People really do lose their mind on arrival here.

Haha.Spot on my way of thinking also. The problem with loans is that you never stop paying on them and its quite high interest.Only on a car you can end up paying for the car at least 2 times or even more.Easy 8-10% on a house loan if you even get one.In the middle of nowhere no chance you can get any house loan .

I have been living in Thailand for over a decade and have had strong relations to the nation for over 20 years. I have always been interested in digging into scrupulous stories about scams in thai. So I have seen and hear a slot through friends.

    The case above is not

special in its own.  If anything special it is that he took it to court.  Which most foreigners don’t. Because in court you will get back most of your belongings. But it depends a great deal if you can trace the money to your account. Ie. when building a house make sure all big and small expenses for construction can be traced back to your account. Also motorbikes and cars.  If being married and you can show proof of this one way money flow even being married and just for a short time, Thai woman have been left with almost nothing in court rulings.
If being married for let’s say 20 years and having kids then the ruling  be different and more a 50/50 split.

A funny story about one guy up in Isaan.  He paid for all the house and construction and his gf left him a month after it was all done on her mother’s land. The strange thing about this case was that she left him there alone in the house and took off for weeks. He then went to the local police station and showed all the construction bills. And whereas the agreed to he being the owner of the newly built house. He then organized a big digger and tore down the whole house in A very short time.  Then Drove all what was left away and left too.  The mother to the gf was left with just a plate of cement and the smoke of a farang.
I guess that’s called a loss of face.

Briliant story.Exactly the reason I have a 5x10 swimming pool in the middle for the house to fit into.My X was smart enough not to tempt me to fill it in there ,so I stil live there????

I'm amazed too. I've been in Thailand for ten years now and I've never heard of a single even-handed legal decision like this come down when a defacto relationship was being adjudicated on.

I would think this will heartened a lot of folks in a similar situation.

Cant have listened much if this is so big news. Nothing new really if you have a good lawyer and you keep all the bills and bank transferes. A friend of mine also got the house of his wife together with the car.It all comes down to corruption in the system. For myself also I have not lost a penny after my break up after 8 years. But yes there is still many loosing everything because its for sure true love, and dont bother to think ahead.Or more like thinking with the smalest head.Only enough blood for one at the time.

I have global coverage with CIGNA using their office in Dubai. Their main office for expats seeking Global coverage, including Thailand is in Scotland. They recently issued me a separate letter confirming that based on my policy, that I have coverage for any issues related to Covid19.

Having lived in Thailand for over the past 20 yrs..... I’m also locked-out.

I find myself currently stuck in Abu Dhabi. Even though I own my own home in Phuket with a Yellow Book Tambian Baan, Thai I.D. Pink Card and a recently issued (Oct 2019) 10 yr O-X Retirement Visa, can I get home....??? No. Maybe in October.

Im in the same boat as you.Even with a legal daughter. We can only hope for soon but not too soon.

Good luck with that. This can be done online though with Zoom maybe.

According the WHO, 21st June was the worst day so far with 183,000 new infections. Realistically most can forget getting into Thailand until this pandemic slows down everywhere.

I seriously hate what you are saying, but I can only agree with it????

If you have a yellow book, then why would you need a residence certificate?

You see how much problem traveling rules make now for foreigners living here without residency ?

I havent done any yet either ,but I have all the other papers I could posibly have.

Im not married but I have legal costody of my daughter.

Still blocked out because no residency.

I honestly didnt think it was that easy to get it,or I would have done it long time ago.
