  1. I lost mine last year and I was made to go to a police station that was about 10 minutes away from Changwattana to file a missing document report. Took a while to get but was just in time to get back for my queue number. They didn't even look at the police report and tossed it aside. Was a hassle but it didn't cost anything apart from time and has subsequently meant I always staple it into my passport ans double check whenever I use my passport for anything. Good luck.

  2. Great information and help as always ubonjoe. I will also be in the same boat. I'm back in the UK in April and would like to renew my passport. My work permit is attached to my old passport. Would I be able to get multiple entry stamp to keep my non O active and then chane the non O stamp to new paasport on arrival back to Thailand? Would this affect my work permit? Also a completely different topic but would it be possible to invalidate my non O and change to a non B whislt in the UK! What effect would that have on my work permit? Sorry for the barrage of questions! Any help and adcice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  3. Thank you very much for your help and assistance. Much appreciated.  Still a little confused as I am just coming up to the end of my first year extension which for some reason was granted for dependent children instead of a marriage visa (I am legally married).

I do have tax receipts and a p91 (I think that's the correct term- but this form has me down as being single which again is a mistake by my language school) but they were given to me in January so I do not have the last three months. These tax receipts show that I earn the required 40,000 baht per month. As stated my extension expires in early August does that mean I have to wait until then to apply for another one year extension? Also when I originally got this Non O from the UK it was based on marriage and was extended by one month and then I was granted the full one year but it was based on having children. Very confuse by it all! Thanks again and apologies for rambling on but I am pretty confused!

  4. I am currently on a non 0 visa which was granted on the basis of me supporting my children. My one year non O is due to expire at the beginning of August. I currently have a work permit as I teach at a language school. I would like to ask for some advice and would be very grateful if anybody could point me in the right direction in terms of extending this visa. I would like to extend my visa using the proof of 40,000-baht salary per month as opposed to the 400,000 baht in the bank option. I have the following questions.

    1)     Can I apply now or should I wait until next month or August?

    2)     How much does it cost to extend this visa for another year?

    3)     I have an official tax slip along with a tax form which shows that I earn 40,000 baht per month (I do earn more than this but it is not reported due to tax reasons- not my doing or choice)- Do I need to show pay slips? (We don’t actually receive pay slips- money is deposited into the bank and we get given a photocopy of our time sheets)

    4)     I have a copy of my contract but it does not state my salary- should I get my school to redo it showing my salary as being 40,000 baht per month? (They seem a little reluctant to do this)

    5)     I am right in thinking I need the following documents;

    ·        Photographs of me and my family in, around and outside of our house

    ·        Original and photocopies of my wife’s ID card-

    ·        Children’s birth certificates in both Thai and English

    ·        Map to our house.

    ·        Marriage certificate original/photocopies and translated

    6)     Is there anything I am missing from the list of required documents?

My apologies if these questions have been asked and answered a dozen times before but I just want to make sure I have everything in order. Thanks in advance for any and all assistance, it is most appreciated.

  5. Thank you very much for your quick reply and all your helfpul advice and info on this site- it is invaluable. One more cheeky question if I may. I currently have a work permit as a teacher at a language center the hours are part time but this is not mentioned within the work permit. I have just been offered a full time job at a school within the same area and I wondering if I add this school to my work permit without cancelling my original work permit and getting a new one. Thanks again. All the best

  6. I have a single entry non O visa which expires on the 2nd of August. I am due to apply for the extension this week but I am a little confused. If I go on Tuesday I would have exactly 30 days till my visa expires. Can I go on either Wednesday or Thursday meaning I will have 29/28 days left? Thanks for any help or advice.

  7. I have a single entry non O visa which expires in early August. I  have a work permit which was granted last week through a private language school. I am confused on how to extend my non O visa by showing my income. As I only have  2 months left on my non 'o' visa this means I can only show this months and next months income. As it is a language school my income changes monthly and unfortunately this month and next month I will fall short by about 2,000-3,000 baht. Is there anyway to get round this with a letter or contract from my language school? Thanks for any forthcoming advice or suggestions.

Then why did you request, and pay for, the EMS service?

Did you ask for it to be delivered to your home or somewhere else? You did say

which indicates you asked for delivery to your home.

UKVI, for some reason, do not suggest a minimum time one should allow for processing an application. Instead they  simply provide processing times for past applications. Which are not updated as often as they could be: the latest figures being for November!

Personally, I recommend allowing at least 15 working days for a visit visa.

I fully agree that having to phone a premium rate line in the UK when one has a query is ridiculous. At the very least, applicants should be able to resolve questions such as yours by contacting VFS in Bangkok.

We had our appointment on the 21st of March. As the past prior 5 visas were done within 5 days we were quite foolish in thinking we would get everything back way before a planned holiday in Thailand on the 7th. So sure were we that we paid for the EMS service for everything to be delievered to our home address. We realized that we shouldn't have been so confident based on past applications  that were processed quite quickly. Trying to cancel the EMS was not possible. Luckily the VFS were very helpful and accommodating and dug out our visa and passport. Going by previous encounters with British Embassies and passport offices I really don't know if they would have allowed us to pick up the visa in person after paying for a courier service.  The UKVI website as a whole needs some real updating the visa proccesing times page seems to be down as you have to agree to bypass web security to access it-never a good sign! As you said it is useless stating statistics from November. Also we sent over 4 emails to try and get an update and notify them than we wished to cancel the EMS service-we never received a reply.

As stated this was a lesson learnt in terms of leaving things too late and will definatley plan ahead in future

  9. Quick update. Received the decision email yesterday (April 4th) at 11:00am. Eleven working days to process as there were hundreds of students applying. We then received an SMS at 4:00pm to say it was ready for collection. Another SMS at 4:30pm to say it would be delivered to our home address which is what we didn't want as from reading through previous threads it seems to take 3 days give or take to get.Between the email and SMS I called the UK visa helpline and paid the extortionate £1.37 per minute. Asked for them to cancel the EMS or to notify their colleagues that we would come to pick it up-she refused saying the message wouldn't get there in time! There was a five hour gap between the email and SMS!  She tried to tell me if I

had called before the decision email she might have been able to something-I am not so sure. I also called the British  embassy afterwards knowing that they wouldn't be able to help. They were apologetic and freindly and suggested I called the UK immigration again and try to speak to a superior but I didn't fancy being fleeced again. We set off this morning and arrived at 10 and were let in.  The saff were very friendly and helpful and we managed to pick up the successful visa and folder. They said they would have either sent out the passport for EMS this evening or tomorrow which for us would have been a diaster as it is a public holiday on Friday. So all in all it can be done. Lesson learnt in terms of leaving it so late.

  10. We applied for a UK family visit on the 20th of March and have still not heard anything either through SMS or email. We are set to go for a small holiday in Thailand middle of next week and will return after Song Kran so we wont be home to meet the EMS delivery. Do you think we would be able to just turn up amd collect the passport if we get the decision has been made email? Also was wondering if anybody else has recieved their visas back this month? It seems a little busy and slow.

  11. Maybe I did read a lttle too much into your post and for that I apologize. Also I retract calling you pathetic as you made a point but still I do think it was in bad taste to immediately post theories of substance abuse. You could have worded your post a lot better and perhaps shown a little more empathy to the victim and his family and friends that may or may not read this.

  12. Suspected 'heart attack' that's usually how Cambodia reports accidental heroin overdose, from taking otherwise safe cocaine sized doses.

Its the Golden Triangle effect at work with so much of it being produced next door, heroin is pretty easy to come by in Cambodia. Its easy to get and purer than what is sold in Europe or in the U.S. Its so cheap, dealers will sell heroin as cocaine leading to all those unfortunate heart attacks in the news.
