Actually it is nit that hard to bring it in legally. The rules and procedure are as follows (oxy contin is a Class 2 narcotic)

The Ministry of Public Health issued the Ministerial Regulation B.E. 2552 (2009) under the Narcotics Act B.E. 2522 (1979), amended by the Narcotics Act B.E. 2545 (2002). It became effective on September 29, 2009. According to the new regulation, travellers to Thailand under medical treatment are allowed to carry medications containing narcotic drugs of Category 2 for personal treatment in a quantity not exceeding 30 days of prescribed usage and must follow the applicable regulations strictly.
Travellers to Thailand under treatment of these medications are required to obtain a permit (Form IC-2) issued by the Food and Drug Administration before travelling to Thailand.

To request for the permit, please apply using online service on http://permitfortraveler.fda.moph.go.th/ at least two weeks before the arrival date. The original copies of the documents must still be sent by post - airmail if possible
The following documents must be submitted:
    1.1 Application form (Form IC-1)
    1.2 Copy of passport
1.3 Medical prescription written by the physician who provided the medical treatment, which must contain the following:
 the name and address of the patient
     the identified medical condition
 the name of the medications and the reason that those medications were prescribed for the patient's treatment
 the posology and total amount of medications prescribed
 the name, address, and license number of the prescribing physician
    and/or
1.4 Certificate issued by a competent authority of the country of departure to confirm the patient’s legal authorization to carry those medications for personal use.

The last part, ey seem to accept from a doctor

It may sound complicated but people who have doen it report the thai FDA to be pretty good at fast response.

As for the 30 day p[art, they are not going to count out the number of tablets so as long as it looks consistent with short term personal use not likely to be an issue. Can't, of course, carry in a suitcase full.

Here is the link to the relevant website

Would the same procedure apply to medicinal marijuana?

If so and caught smoking the medicinal marijuana, would the police accept this defence?

  2. Why don't Thai immigration insist that at least 65,000 be deposited in a Thai bank every month? The evidence of that is the bank passbook. If you miss a month ........ no extension. Why should it matter to them how much you earn?  Isn't it about bringing the dollars into a Thai bank.
If it's the combination method , then the amounts can easily be worked out.
Proof of foreign exchange coming in should be all that matters to the Thai authorities.

Because you and I could each send 65,000 to each other every month.. effectively just moving the same 65,000 around each month.
  3. Had an argument with some guy last week in a bar as he was smoking very close to my pregnant wife with total disregard to anybody else and our unborn baby. I asked him politely to stop smoking as my wife had to move away from our group and I pointed out to him the 2000 baht fine poster on the wall and he refused to stop smoking and even went to the bar to get permission to smoke in the bar. This problem was escalating and I told him if he refused to stop then I would stop him myself-he stopped so maybe he has learned his lesson, we will find out next time we are in the bar. The last time I had a problem like this and some guy refused to stop swearing in front of my wife in a bar, I took the appropriate action-he ended up in the gutter and he never returned to the bar and he was an ex-marine (or so he told me).

Why are you hanging out in bars with your pregnant wife who dislikes swearing and smoking?

Why are you threatening and assaulting people in a bar?

Why would your wife marry such a man?
  4. The only proof of income accepted by immigration is a statutory declaration done at the Canadian embassy. They want back up proof when you do the declaration. Not sure what the want for the proof.
If you were legally working here with a work permit immigration would accept tax payments receipts as proof of the income.

    Thanks.

Or I can just show proof of 400,000 in Bangkok Bank that is soley in my name?

No need to go to my Embassy if I choose this route?
  5. I just got married and have the Thai marriage certificate. I just got a 60 day extension of stay due to marriage, having a tourist visa.

I cannot meet the financial requirements, so it looks like savanakhet is the best bet for me as I have no problem leaving the country every 90 days.

Is there a significant risk savanakhet changes their rules for the multi entry marriage visa in the next 60 days and thus requires financial proof?

  6. I went on the 8th Feb to Vientiane with ThaiVisaService.   The consulate was packed with people.

All of us got Tourist visas without any problem at all (I'd say there were 40 people with our visa company, and at the border probably 300 people waiting for it to open)

Mixture of Japanese, Brits, Russians and other Eastern Europeans, an American and a Canadian guy.   All young people.

ThaiVisaService shills out en force tonight it seems.
  7. These r just mules, we all know drugs r never smuggle via air..

Vast majority of cocaine enters Thailand via commercial air.

A mule can swallow 2kg worth about 10 million baht on the streets of bangkok.

They get paid 300,000 baht in exchange for the extremely low risk of getting caught.

These busts are laughingly rare.. maybe once every couple months at the airport.

And since it is so rare to get caught, vast majority of product is being sent elsewhere where it is worth more.. singapore, sydney.
  8. Is there a worse country to import drugs into?  I am gobsmacked that these people are so freakin stupid!

99.9% make it through succesfully. The cost of cocaine is extremely expensive here.

Probably one of the best countries to smuggle into on a risk/reward basis considering the passports these two held.

If holding a G7 passport, you would want to smuggle the product into Australia for the best risk reward.

Remember that extremely harsh prison sentences for drugs in SEA just increase the value of said drugs.

To me these people aren't stupid. The pattaya suicide folks who kill themselves becauase of money issues are stupid for not approaching the Nigerians for a job in this line of business.

  9. The embassy will ask for proof of your income.

    Thanks.

What is the definition of income?

Could I not just deposit 45,000 thb equivelent into my Canadian bank, then withdraw it a few weeks later and repeat this process each month?

    Would this satisfy the requirements?

Or do they want to see pay stubs and tax return etc.

  10. You would have to do a affidavit (statutory declaration) stating your income at the embassy. The affirmation of permit to marry would not be accepted to prove your income.

    OK thanks.

This document is called marriage affidavit and contained within I am also swearing my income is X, employer is Y and occupation is Z listed at a specific address.

But you are saying this is not sufficient and I need another declaration.

To get this letter you advise i must get, must I show proof of income at the Canadian Embassy?

    Thanks again.
  11. I was writing about getting a one year extension of stay at immigration not  about getting a multiple entry non-o visa since that is what this topic is primarily about.
Not all embassies and consulates will issue a multiple entry non-o visa even with financial proof. Penang would accept a income affidavit to get a non-o visa.

Ok so i should be indifferent towards applying for a non o visa in either Penang or Savanakhet since I do have the income affidavid?

And the affidavid i have is a marriage affidavid which just happened to ask me my income and occupation. Is this sufficient or is there a more specific affidavid?
  12. A income affidavit proving more than 40k baht will be accepted. No need for bank statements. If the income affidavit is in English it does not need to be translated.
Immigration will accept a income affidavit that is up to 6 months old.

I was planning to go to Savanakhet since they dont require financial proof.. But does this mean I can go to any Thai consulate outside of the country and get a marriage visa with only the income affidavid?
  13. There is no immigration office in Fang. You can only use the office in Chiang Mai.
A once a year visit to immigration in my opinion would be better than traveling to Savannakhet to get a new visa and then having to do border hops every 90 days for a new entry.
Not sure what the latest is about what time you need to be at immigration in Chiang Mai. Your wife or another person could do the wait in line for you while wait somewhere more comfortable until they start handing  out numbers.

For the once a year visit to immigration, is an income affidavid greater than 45,000 translated and stamped by the MFA sufficient? Or are bank statements needed?

Also does the translated income affidavid from Canadian embassy expire after a certain amount of time?
