I take extreme offence to this sort of statement. Back it up with proof or shut up. And I don't mean the old bar stool nonsense. Real proof from interacting with Thai men....not just shagging bar girls and bullshitting to your mates. Or are you referring to the not  unreasonable action of men anywhere when one of their women is disrespected by some <deleted>....

Why? It is now known officially as either Burma or Mayanmar.

  3. Cahill Crossing on the East Allgator river.... the " border " to Arnhem Land is quite a spooky place. Steep banks and maybe 30-40 kilometres from the sea but still tidal. Can see a standing wave forming at the concrete causeway. Many crocodiles in the vicinity.

one of the guys I worked with lost his life to a croc there ... fishing on the causeway... washed off. Swam to the bank while his teenage son was reaching down with a stick from a tree to help his dad climb the bank.

    Tourists watching and videotaping.

croc took his head clean off and the swam away with the body.

that was in 85 or 86 or thereabouts

  4. Hi Gentlemen.

While realising a previous police order banned the import of second-hand cars and motorbikes a couple of years ago, is there any scope for importing vintage motorbikes? Or is just  blanket rule with no other options?

I can see the logic in restricting "new" imports.....no problem with that.

I have a 1973 bike that I would love to ride in Thai.....any comments/thoughts welcome.

The same old sell  and buy new in Thai just doesn't  apply in this case .

I could possibly buy a similar bike in Thai...but those of us who really know motorbikes....i.e. pull down, rebuild  OUR bikes , etc etc will know this isn't the same.

If it can't be done thats cool...the Grandson will have a pretty good toy in 15 years.

  5. Reading some of the responses I guess people lock up their TV's and all their expensive kitchen appliances when the maid comes to clean. A TV isn't hard to steal if no-one is home.

IMO I'd contact the lady (if she is as good as the OP first stated) and have a chat with her to see what the root cause of the issue is. If she is just an out and out (malicious) thief then be done with her, although I suspect this may not be the case. If not, there may be a reasonable solution acceptable to both parties. After reading other posts where people talk about the difficulty in finding or keeping maids it could be a worthwhile exercise.
