Changing jobs is different I think. You will need a letter from your employer saying when you've left. Organise your trip to get the new visa and then tell your employer what date to put on the letter.
I don't know the full details. I was hoping someone here would know all about it.

There have been several recent reports here that there is now no free 7 day grace period and that a 7 day extension of stay must be obtained from Immigration at the end of employment or overstay is being charged.
That's what I heard today from the Thai guy who does all the paperwork for foreigners with my employer. No more 7 day period. Cancel the WP the same day you're leaving or pay overstay.
He did suggest not cancelling the WP, if I leave, and just staying on with that, but that sounds very dodgy.

More on this.
Apparently you have to leave the same day ss your permit is cancelled. No 7 day leeway anymore. People who've left in the 7 day period have been fined overstay.
-
Who told you that - a guy on a barstool?
A guy who's just gone to Laos to get a new visa for his new job. I'll report back here when he gets back and let you know what happened.

JG stopped going to Savannaket for the sixty day tourist visa. What happened? Can you still get a 60 day tourist visa here, if you go on your own?
-
Either do both the same day or obtain a 7 day extension of stay from Immigration. Your permitted to stay will immediately expire when on an extension and work ends.
My buddy just got told that the 7 day period is out and that you have to leave immediately. I am not saying this is concrete information, but there does seem to have been some change in this. Not exactly sure what it is yet though.

The other part of this I heard is that you have to leave on the day you quit. Apperently the 7 day period has gone, you have to get a letter from your employer with the date you quit and have to be gone that same day.
-
i thought it sounded suspicious. If you could stay, then people would just get the work permit, then quit their job and not have to leave for a year.
So when you finish your job, you have to go back to doing the visa runs if you're planning on staying?
-
I heard (purely hearsay) if you have a work permit, you don't have to leave the country 7 days after you finish your job. I always understood you had 7 days to get a new visa or leave after you finished your job. Apparently now the work permit runs until the date on the visa and you can stay until that date.
Anyone else on this?

Thanks for the info. How do you prove the stuff is 6 years old, to avoid paying import duty?

Do you know if DNT ship by weight or size?
-
I've looked for this elsewhere on the forum, I'm sure it's been asked about already but can't find anything.
Anyway, I'm planning on moving back home after some years here.
What are the options for shipping my stuff back?
I'm getting rid of some of course but there's a good bit left which I want to send back. Books, CDs, clothes, things like that mostly.
Shipping companies? Postal service?
Anybody got any experience with this?
Thanks very much.
