I've read how China is moving to 100% digital payment apps and the use of them is proportional to a person's social credit score. Not towing the party line or criminal convictions resulting in a lower score will limit access to restaurants, theaters and ultimately basic needs.

I entered on a 30 day visa on arrival and applied for a 90 day O retirement visa. Had to show 800,000 in a Thai bank for 3 months before applying, and that money had to be from off shore. Also proof of accommodation with a hand drawn map showing the location. Recently extended this visa for one year.

I like to close my eyes and pretend I'm sitting in a comfy car driving to the airport and not sitting on bus full of smelly people.

As I said earlier, I'd rather spend 1k for a comfy car to take me door-to-door without wasting hours just waiting to get on the Jomtien bus and sharing it with 30 other folks.
Sure, but did you know you can take a bus? From Jomtien? For 150 baht?

Costs 1k to the airport & 1k back to Pattaya by a private taxi service. That's 2k spent. Add the cost of flights, visas for neighbouring countries, etc. and it's easily double a van trip. I know, I've done the flying trip a few times in the past.
Jomtien bus to the airport is 150 baht

I thought it was a inherent right for Thais to park anywhere any time even on the right of way... especially if they were seeking nourishment.
They must leave the four flashers on if double parked.

Shouldn't rush to return any money, could be a scam.

Chanthaburi—At 6:00 PM, on March 5th, 2024, Chanthaburi local media interviewed a noodle shop owner after returning 300,000 baht in overpayment to Chinese customers in Mueang, Chanthaburi.
Mr. Samart Wongnapa, a 49-year-old noodle shop owner, revealed to local media that at 12:00 PM on the same day, there was a group of four Chinese gem merchants who ordered noodle dishes at the shop with an amount of 210 baht for seven dishes. After checking the bills, however, the Chinese customers accidentally transferred 333,210 via a mobile banking platform. Samart, the noodle shop owner, realized that and then rushed to call the Chinese customers to return the money.

Manilla airport workers were slipping a 22 shell into carry on luggage side pockets before the xray. They got caught when a young American missionary was targeted. His church connections raised the alarm. He'd never owned a gun and the bullet was a cheap local make.

Beach road boardwalk is really wide and can easily accommodate all those scooters going the wrong way.

All Thais with income are obliged to declare it and pay tax if applicable - many are within the exempt bracket. Income-earning Thais do not have any exemption from filing a tax return. Who are "the Thais earning a lot of money" who are exempted from tax to whom you refer?
The 30 000 000 who don't file a return?

Long term visa holders need to have the good sense to avoid confrontations. This guy escalated a nothing situation, admitted kicking a Thai sitting quietly on a public beach and then saved the video. Always remember we are all short term guests here.

Had Covid last week (tested positive) and the only exposure I could have had was using the elevator to go to the pool. Under 30 seconds possible exposure so super contagious. Used Virx nasal spray and didn't get sick. I'm 5x vaccinated and done with boosters. More effective to have an unopened bottle of Virx on hand.

Big C, Not Makro. Looks like it's where Baan and Beyond was.
Hope it gives Big c price competition.

Lots of great information in this thread, thanks so much. This website is awesome for information like this and I really it hope it survives. I want an O visa going forward so I think for me, it's best to visa run to Cambodia for a 30 day, extend it then apply for an O visa based on retirement in January. Again, thank you for your replies.

Didn't know visit my wife extension was a thing. Could I 60 day extend then apply for an O visa based on Marriage?

Thanks for the helpful replies. My insurance agent told me not to renew from Canada. Note to self..change insurance agent.
Checked the Krungsri letter again, it does show the transfer coming from my Canadian bank swift code through Bangkok bank.
Is this too tight of a window? Close to New Years, busy time of year. Maybe get a 30 day tourist extension and then apply for the O visa.

Ok, here's what happened. My first year OA visa is multiple entry, expires November 22. Arrived swampy Oct 14 and Immigration stamped my passport visa expires Dec 5, the date my insurance expires. Renewed the insurance for a year, went to Jomtien soi 5 for a year extension and they said nope, year two is done Dec 5. Didn't expecting this. I did wire 1.5m baht just before I left Canada and it arrived Oct 17. So, not two months and now have to go to O visa.
I have the wire transfer receipt from Canada and got a letter today from Krungsri bank. The letter says the money arrived Oct 17 and was transferred through Bangkok bank. Doesn't say it was from off shore but the amount lines up. Good enough?
Thanks for your replies.

My O-A visa expires on Dec 5 and I'll change to an O visa. Border run next week and enter on 30 day voa. Applying for an O visa, is there a two month money in the bank requirement on application day? That would be impossible for a 30 day visa holder but I've read it is / it isn't needed. Anyone know what's what for Jomtien?

BJ was responsible for the TM30 rules change. The Embassies all decided to change their rubber stamp policies at the same time. What prompted them?
Btw, it's still not "Now everyone have to face the same rules."
