The Ministry of Commerce, however, assured that there is enough milled rice for domestic consumption, estimated at eight million tonnes, with the remainder, about 7.5 million tonnes, destined for export

Funny, I read that as domestic corruption. 8 million and 7.5 million is 15.5,  3.5 million short of the 18.8 million! I wonder where the 3.5 million went.

Windows is a lot more open and easier to do illegal things, so do prefer that aspect of it

I don't seem to have any problems doing illegal things with my Mac. And to the OP, I wonder how many windows computers lasted as long as your Mac has. Using a Mac circa 2012 and it's still working is pretty good going in my opinion.

How about a certain FB page with 600,000 followers calling for Phuket locals to gather up slingshots and shoot rocks at whitey's head? Can we criticize that? Or how about the fact that that page isn't on Thai news but this feelgood "All-Thais-Are-Angels" story is?

A genuine good-hearted gesture? Sure, if it's real. But you can't deny this stinks of a damage control PR campaign. C'mon, think of the bigger picture here. A 600,000 strong FB Phuket-based page of racists getting some public attention, and then suddenly- boom - like clockwork, a feel-good article about the kindness of Phuket people? No. It's no different to stories of honest taxi drivers turning in bags of diamonds and cash that get published like clockwork after another story of condemnation.

Edit: I'll also add that the ThaiVisa article about that FB page in question is no longer available. Make of that what you will!

Had it occurred to you that maybe that post was taken down on FB and TV? Also have there been any attacks on Farangs because of the virus here in Thailand.

Compare that to the US and UK and probably Europe too where people of Asian descent have been attacked because of the virus.

    Not here for an argument.

My home country is a developed nation, where I am a citizen, with rights. Things are very different for a foreigner in Thailand, even as a customer of a bank.

I moved my money out of Thailand, and don't regret doing so.  You leave your money in Thailand.  I don't have a problem with that.  Good luck to us both.

I didn't see the point leaving the money here just for a visa, and that's the only reason I moved a lump sum here, for the visa.

We saw how unstable Thailand can be with various military coups and other things.  I simply don't have the confidence in Thailand to be able to manage the virus crisis in an effective manner.

I respect everyone's decision, regardless of whether they pull the money out of Thailand, or keep it in Thailand.

That is fair enough. And I'm just saying if the sh** hits the fan even our funds in the good old home country aren't safe either. There is that adage. Don't put into Thailand that which you can't walk away from. I only bring what I need to live here no more no less.

How does this reassure you?  Do you think the Thai government will bail out a bank here?  They might, then again, they might not.

I recently transferred the bulk of my account back to my home country, and I am glad I did so.

I wouldn't trust one word they say out of Bangkok.

And if it came to it do you really think your money would be safe in your home country? What good is a guarantee when money is worthless.

Ear plugs simply don't work, not even noise cancelling earphones will cut out the heavy bass notes. Are you not driven mad by your neighbours music???

Depends on what time of day it is. Thais like to play their music as loud as possible, No idea why but that's how it is. When it happens I stick an earphone in my good ear that tends to cut out their music. But I don't live in a heavily built up area and it doesn't happen that often. I guess with people stuck at home they have more time to play their music.

I believe you can use something called earphones? so you don't annoy all your neighbours.

My neighbours play their music even louder, I think they are trying to blow the speaker system. Can't use headphones, I'm deaf in one ear. lol

Might I suggest you get ear plugs.
