I saw several news accounts that the Korat shooter purchased three weapons through the 'Army welfare program'.  Is there a limit on the number of weapons that can be purchased under the program? What, if anything, prevents these weapons being sold on the 'black' or 'gray' market'?

Based on what I have 'heard' but with no personal experience, I was always under the impression that if you had enough money, getting a gun in Thailand wasn't a problem.

I would also be curious to know if carrying a weapon in Thailand is legal and whether the Thai government issues permits to gun holders.

There is no concealed carry in Thailand. Only for home protection or sport shooting at the range. Even Thai need 3" of paperwork and 6+ months to obtain a firearm. It's not "easy"(not counting black market)

Because he arrived as an American with an American passport. If you can prove he is Thai then that 30 day stay can be extended to one year at an immigration office.

To fix it you must get the child a Thai passport then leave the country using the American passport and then re-enter using the Thai passport.

There are no consequences other than a possible overstay stamp for children.

I wonder if immigration will suggest the same thing. Leave it n tye American passport and re enter on the Thai.

We will get a Thai passport asap now and go to immigration. Thankfully I live in Nonthaburi and it's a breeze compared to CW.

  3. I wanted my son to have an American passport when we travel to America. My wife and I haven't gotten his Thai passport yet. We used the US passport to visit S.Korea last week. The immigration officer at the airport asked where his TM6 was, and I told him he was born in Thailand. He just shrugged his shoulders and stamped the book. When we can back I had to fill out an arrival card for him and that is stapled in his passport now.

He only received a 30 day stamp.

You can definitely get a work-permit while having a Non-O based on marriage to a Thai.  You don't have to leave the country to go out for a visa.  It is better to have the Non-O/marriage-based, because your permitted-stay is not tied to your job.

I am not familiar with delay-time for new businesses obtaining work-permits.

    Thanks for the reply,

If I originally came in on a non B, then only changed my reason for extension (2 years later) is my Visa still technically a non B?

  5. Hello, I've searched for this topic but could not find it.

I have a job with a small Thai company with a WP. The company changed management and name in October of 2018 and my WP foe that company name expired end of that October. Since then I changed my reason for extension to marriage instead of work.

    1. Will I have any problem getting the new WP with my new extension status?

    2. Do I have to leave the country and start over because the company has a new name?

I know there is a waiting period for a new company before they can hire a foreigner....right?

    Ugggg, any suggestions?

    Thanks.

Sorry to hear and once more shows that sometimes comments are out of line & can be hurtful. I am stage 4 and hear plenty of "innocent", but dumb comments. Surely immigration will respond kindly, especially if you can bring your friend along. MS>

Thanks moonseeker I hope you aren't in too much pain. For me I'm married now and have a baby on the way so I'm invested in being here, and I love my job for the first time in my young 46 year old life.

I'm just crossing my fingers for my trip to immigration on Monday to turn up a good answer.

    Thanks everyone.

I never sign with a legible signature. Is there any Thai law requiring this? Never heard of. Probably he could also sign with an X

I think it's different when signatures have to look the same when signing company docs. There is a review of all the paperwork once you turn it all into immigration. If there is a non legible signature them they will probably kick the extension back.

In what respect was your surname incorrectly transcribed into Thai on your work permit? Did your employer give a Thai transcription of your name on the application form for the work permit and the Department of Employment typed it differently on the work permit?

Regardless of how it happened, the district office that registered your marriage presumably used the Royal Thai General System of Transcription (RTGS) for its transcription of your name.

I guess the staff at labor department took it upon themselves to leave an "S" out of my name.

The same mistake was made on my divorce document, which my fiance corrected for them at the Amphure. So My new marriage certificate has the correct Thai spelling. I will use that to get the correction done.

  9. October of 2016 I was issued my work permit. I had no idea they incorrectly translated my last name. Now after I got married, my marriage certificate has the correct translation and as I'm using the marriage certificate for tax purposes (next year) my work staff is telling me I will have problems because the last names are different (slightly)

How can I get the name corrected on the work permit? It's due for renewal in October this year. Can I request a new one with correct translation?

    Thanks
