  1. You'll waddle through knee deep murky water in some places worse case scenario. No boot is going to save you. I generally try to avoid traveling if it's raining because the streets flood so easily and traffic is a nightmare. Best advice I can give you is if you are going to be traveling with your friend, wear shorts with water proof socks + cheap pair of sneakers or those closed toe sandals with the holes in them. You could wear regular flip flops but the water is usually so murky that you can't see what's really ahead and may run the risk of cutting your foot on something.

    Best of luck.

I would imagine that the main (though not, admittedly, only) reason for this is because the Noodle Stand owners are used to accommodating Tourists and over time have come to recoginise that finicky requirements for "hygiene" by such Farang mean that the common Tin Cup filled with ice from the local Ice Factory and topped up with local water would result in hysterics from these people.

Best therefore to wait until the Customer specifically defines his requirements.

He pretty much summed it up.

Honestly, you may be thankful they don't automatically serve you that tin cup with ice. I've seen on more than a few occasions cups being reused without washing first both by the vendor and locals. There was this one time,  a local finished eating his bowl of noodles and walked up to where they stack the cups and cooler filled with iced water, took a cup and dunked it in, sipped it, and proceeded to place it back on the shelf. All ready to go for the next customer...

  3. Hello. I'm wondering where is the appropriate place where I can post an ad to sell a couple things? I'm just cleaning up my house and there are a couple items I no longer want/need. Since the old classifieds has been closed and the new one isn't up and working yet, is there a temporary place I can post it up?

    Thanks!

I'll agree with others, have found them in Makro in Hua Hin and Chumphon.  But, they usually don't have a big supply and sometimes you have to dig in the frozen section.  Look for doughs, breads, and flour tortillas.

As an aside, does anywhere sell the masa harina to make them?

I'd be surprised if you could even find that here in Thailand. If any place would stock them, Villa Market would probably be your best bet.

Also some Foodland and Max Value stores stock corn tortillas and jarred salsa.

Wander around the Khlong Thom market in Chinatown and you'll be able to find a dozen or so safety oriented shops and another dozen shops that sell all kinds of non-prescription reading glasses.

There's also a a couple of dozen shops selling hats, many with the neck protectors.  Good luck if you have a big head like mine.  It took me quite a few tries to find one big enough.  The good news is that the sizes aren't consistent so even if one doesn't fit, another may.

Also on Yaowarat (sp?) and Chaoron Krung (sp?) in that same area, there are several shops with thousands of pairs of glasses of many descriptions.  Just wander around.

This. Klong Thom has everything. You'll most likely find whatever you need there.

Most construction/landscaping/general-everything-store also usually stock those hats too, or at least the ones I've shopped at. If memory serves me right, I think "Thai Watsadu" have them too, not 100% sure on that.

Your friend has suggested a good combo however for your stated needs it isn't really necessary. More RAM is always good , if you need it, but you don't. An i7 is a waste of money for you. An i5, ok, but for your needs and budget not a must have. A 1TB hard disk, if it doesn't cost much extra then sure, but every time you add or upgrade, your price goes up unless you pick-up a bargain. Doesn't hurt to look on the Dell site when you're in the US to see what bargains they might have. A return/openbox laptop can be a great deal.

    Basically what kkerry said.

You don't need an i5 or i7 processor as that would put you well over your budget anyways. You definitely don't need more than 4GB of RAM for what you intend to use the laptop for. I also second taking a look at Dell. They usually have similar specs and are slightly cheaper in price than other brands but are less aesthetically appealing. As for hard drive capacity, you can always purchase an external hard disk if 500GB or 1TB isn't enough for you.

I presume you are talking about a post paid plan. Their pre paid is nothing like that. I was using a pre paid dtac air card for internet access only and 20gb cost 1200 baht and dropped out every afternoon up here. Probably better in BKK but look at the difference between post and pre paid.

If by "post paid plan" you mean a monthly recurring bill that you pay at the end of each month, then yes that's correct. I used to use a pre-paid air card for internet access too a few years ago back when I was living in a relatively remote area near Khao Yai. Signal and speed was horrible.

Can I translate that into small words (as I am one of the few still using a G-zero phone) : Assuming I buy a smarter-than-me phone,  are you saying that a service package costing 899 baht/month will give me 400 minutes of talking, and unlimited internet connection use, whilst travelling, with my tablet tethered to my phone. If I download stuff, I am limited to 30gigabytes. Is that right? Bear with me - if I open articles at BBC, BP, Guardian, does that eat into my 30 GB ?

Hoping to see the light, , as right now I blow high dough (1000+ baht/month on AIS topups - and  750 baht/month for TOT fiber service to my home. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

    Basically yes.

As far as I know, DTAC is still offering the 899 baht/month package. Let me explain it a little better.

    You get:

    400 calling minutes

Unlimited internet connectivity even when you use up all 30Gb of 4G data (yes everywhere you go where there is signal)

    15Gb standard data + 15Gb promotional data = 30Gb of 4G data per month

15Gb + 15Gb of 4G (1 year promotion which means you get the extra +15 for only 1 year after signing on. Whenever you use data whether it be browsing articles or downloading applications, it will use the 30Gb of available 4G data you have first. They split the data into 15Gb standard and 15Gb promotional, meaning if you don't use all 15Gb of standard 4G data, it rolls over to your next month's available data.

For example, I only use 10 Gb out of 15Gb of my standard data this month, then next month I will have:  (5Gb of leftover data from last month) + (15Gb of standard data) + (15Gb of unused promotional data) = total of 35Gb of 4G data available to use for the second month.

It might sound a little confusing so if you any questions just let me know.

Time to clam down and understand jokes.

    Great joke. 555.

By the way, I wasn't "angry" or "worked up" about it. I guess it's difficult to tell someone's tone or attitude over the internet through text, huh?

This ASUS has decent specs for the price, but no OS. You can always find some shop to install a copy of Windows 10 or whatever you like.
