  1. Was getting some useful info from my limo driver last week regarding the speed cameras on motorway 7.

He said that the cameras is placed around Km marker 20-21-22 Bangkok bound and 21-22 Pattaya bound. He also said that the cameras only monitor the right hand lane, so stay in lane 3 and your fine:-)

Hope this is helpful info for us who like to "open up" now and again :P

  2. Guys,

check the True Value website http://www.truevalue.co.th/product.php?id=4

The store is located on the south bound side of Suk, just opposite Lotus and Outlet Mall.

Plenty of hard to find products including octane booster on page 2&3!! :):D

Suits my M5 perfectly, as it runs a hel_l of a lot better on higher octane than 91!

There is also several Lead substitute additive for those who need that, so we should all get help here :-D

    Cheers

  3. today i found an unexpected car in my carport. opened the hood, saw 12 cylinders. started it... VROOOOOMMMM... "not bad" i thought. asked my wife "do we have any visitors?" got the reply "did you go after the Black Label again without my permission? you bought it last thursday and brought it home yesterday!" then i relaxed and was happy.

Nice one Naam! Take care of your baby :):D

  4. There are some clips on youtube of a BMW E30 with V10, but as you say extremely complicated, expensive and totally impractical in Thailand. Very nice though and sounds amazing.

    Cheers

Nice on INTJ! Crazy Swedes, some good projects has been made there :D

Here is a dyno run from a Norwegian engine builder

Guess it speaks for itself :)

But as you say, a conversion like the V10 would be highly complicated and totally impractical here in Thailand. Knowing Norway and Sweden with regards to getting parts for such a project, it wouldn`t be such a challenge. But trying to get the parts here in Th, it would be a hair-tearing experience.

    Cheers

  5. The short answer to your question is, if you afford to maintain, service, tax and insure a vehicle with a 5000cc, the inital purchase cost will be irrelevant.

Why would it be so expensive to maintain, service tax insure a bigger engine car in Thailand?

I think it would not be much more than a normal BMW, cost of buying a nice car is higher than the West but running costs are less.

parts for an M5 in LOS will be at least double of germany or usa. and does any dealer have the M5 software for OBD?

Actually prices for servicing and parts are more or less the same as a 525i here in Thailand.

I have an -07 M5 (My 17th BMW) which I bought about a year ago, and have done a claim(squeaky sunroof) at the dealer after the buy. Looking at the invoice which was presented to me for signing(guarantee case), I fund it to be reasonable for my car. Likewise with i.e. oil filter and normal servicing parts.

Also insurance was only marginal higher from my trade-in -08 520d. I now pay approx. 70k Bt for top insurance with AXA, while the 520d was about 57k.

I do know both the manager and his son at Nelson Autohaus in Chonburi, and have had my car plugged in at the diagnostic computer several times. First when I bought the car(for mileage check) and when the sunroof issue was there along with normal oil service etc. So yes, service can be done at a reasonable price and there are specially trained personnel at some dealers for M cars.

To OP, please do reconsider putting a M5 V10 in to your car. As previously mentioned in another post, the difference between a standard 5 series and a M5 is literally thousands of parts.

It`s a complicated "race" engine(redline at 8500rpm) which depends on various sensors all over the car to actually run at all.....

So my advice to the OP would be to go for a "less" complicated installation with a different engine. Why don`t you get yourself a small block Chevy V8 and drop that in? It can be tuned to whatever you want and requires "only fuel and ignition to work"...

    Good luck!

  6. I can recommend Andy`s car wash located on 3rd road just before Pattaya Nua(North road) on your right coming from Klang.

Always been satisfied, and they have a cupon system which gives you 25 washes inside and out for 2000bt.

Also do my polishing there, same system but can`t remember the rate for that.

Anyway good value for money and friendly staff.

  7. Went to renew my two 5 years driver licences today.

Arrived at 14:00 and got my paperwork checked at the entrance prior to being handed a number for upstairs use.

Paperwork for car and motorcycle was:

    Two original recidence certs

Two copies of relevant pages in passport; arrival stamp, TM card and Non-O visa(signed by you)

    NO medical sert needed(had one)

    Old DL`s

    Passport

Sent upstairs and handed the paperwork over at once(no one in front of my number). Was told to go inside and do a colourblind test, reaction test with a accelarator and brake pedal(Kinda funny :D ) and finaly "depth of vision" test with two "sticks" inside a box which should be "lined" up next to each other. :D :D

Finally, told to sit down and read a book with roadsigns and road marks for an hour..... :) .............

Took me a total of one hour and fifteen minutes for the whole thing.

    Cheers

Edit: Did the renwal next to Regent School.

  8. I just bought my 2nd BMW there(M5 :o ) ,and have always experienced good service with them.

I`ve known Randy Nelson since-02 and he serves a lot of expats driving BMW`s in the area, including friends of me as well. Never heard anything bad about the shop.

Moby in here bought his car from Nelson`s as well, maybe he will post a few lines also.

  9. Have had a 520d(chipped) for nearly one and a half year now, and it`s a great car. Although I might be a bit partial as I`m currently on my 3rd 5 series in Th now( original M5 :o , just traded the 520d:-), I must say that 5 series E60 is a great ride here in Thailand. Went to Krabi in Feb. and decided to drive down from Pattaya. Piece of cake, took me around 10hrs and wasn`t even tired when we arrived.

Normally you will get waved through checkpoints, people giving way when driving in the right lane etc, it can`t get better.

Before i took delivery of my 520d, I had a run in the 525i. Got the right BMW six sound, but it`s not a 2,5l but 2,4(Tax thing). Took the 520d

(four pot) for a ride, and it performed nearly as well as the 525i.

Have you considered the 520d version? Great mileage, average of 14km/L, it can`t get any better.

After I put the chip in, the power increased from 163Hp to 204, and torque from 340Nm to around 400Nm. And it was noticeable as well!

If I was you, I would for sure do a test run in the 520d and compare. After all they are a lot cheaper than the 525i and considerable cheaper to run as well.

    Cheers

  10. HI GUYS,

PLANNING TO UPGRADE MY ECU , HOPE YOU CAN ADVISE ME WHAT BRAND OF CHIPS SHOULD I GET, THAT IS BEST FOR MY RIDE AND WILL NOT HARM MY ENGINE. 2007 FORD RANGER 2.5L TDCI .

I'VE HEARD UNICHIPS,DIESEL TUNING KIT , PIGGYBACK, ETC.

BUT IM NOT SURE IF THIS WOULD WORK PRETTY GOOD ON MY RIDE.

NEED YOUR ADVISE ON THIS MATTER.

    TNX

I have this brand in my car, and it was like fitting an extra turbo.

    http://www.tuningstyling.co.uk/tuning/ford...gstyling455.htm

I am in contact with the main company based in Norway in order to become a dealer here in Th. If you(and others) are interested, PM me and i will bring it back with me from work in a couple of weeks.

    Jalla

  11. Jalla please post youre pictures.

Of my car? Ok, here`s a couple..

Mobi, let me know if you need a chip for your new car. No ECU modifications, it only needs to be fitted between the original commonrail plug and the commonrail connector. Done in 5min. And you wil NOT void the warranty! PM if interested. Can also get for most other diesel cars.

I fitted one in mine, and it`s just like an extra turbo :o

  13. I`ve just found this jewel of a website which takes you through a virtual tour through our "beloved" city.

    http://www.pattayaphotoguide.com/

As far i can see the photos are quite new as well.

How this site is made is beyond my skills, but very easy to navigate once you get the hang of it. Also you can send a link to a certain location by copying the "link to this location" under the google map.

    Surely impressive stuff :o:D

  14. When it comes to spending money, I guess the world just breaks down into two types of people...those that like to spend money on expensive items to make themselves feel better/important or fill some other emotional need (like the guy who gets a kick that Thai people (probably most of whom will never even own a car) stop to admire his BMW as they are walking to the bus stop...WHATEVER) and those who are not emotionally needy and don't have an urge to "flash their cash" for all to see. I have friends who buy Rolex watches and the latest N-series Nokia phones when they come out (and they don't even know how to use half the features). I mean, do people even know that Rolex makes MILLIONS of their watches PER YEAR and that they are machine made (not some old expert Swiss watchmaker assembling it by hand) and that the watch movements costs just a few dollars! If people have been persuaded that these watches are "exclusive" items worth US$ 5000+ fine. I am happy Roles, and all the other luxury goods makers of Europe , have perfected this con on the public as it keeps the Franc and Euro strong and my European stocks up :D For me, my few hundred dollar Seiko or Citizen keeps me on time for my appointments and I can call or message anyone I want on my B 3000 phone.

You really do have a "bee in your bonnet" about this - almost to the point of obsessiveness.

It irks you that some people like to spend money on nice things and enjoy them, and are not going to go through life thinking: "How much I can save if I buy this cheaper model/brand, rather than the one I really like?"

You seem determined to denigrate people who buy top of the range products and accuse them of base/questionable motives:

(jonniebkk @ 2008-04-22 16:56:02) post_snapback.gifThe problem with most "luxury" spending is that it is done by people who can't really afford it - whether it be flash cars, Luise Vietton purses, or Armani suits. Most of these people are trying to live a lifestyle (prompted by advertising and the media in general) that they can't really afford.

If it makes them happy - what the heck? The demise of poor Mark yesterday has reminded us all of our fragile mortality, and having reached the ripe old age of 61, I plan to enjoy what time I have left on this planet, and I'm certainly not concerned about how I can make 100,000 from 10,0000 by buying a Toyota rather than a BMW, because I did that for 40 years and it's now time to enjoy life. :D

We obviously will never agree on this, so in the interest of Dark side solidarity, I suggest we call a truce.

    What say you? :o

    Congratulations Mobi!

May i say that you will have a good grin on your face on the way home after picking up your new car in June :D :D

What i can`t understand is the flaming by some members for your purchase. I got the same flame from friends when i bought mine in december, but did i care? Heck not! It`s my money, my decision and my life.

Having owned a total of 17 beemers during my 46 years, i guess someone would call it an obsession.... :D :D
