After living in Patong for 18 years before moving to the south of the island, I looked around one day and asked myself "What the f*&# have they done to my home?"
I left Phuket after a total of 22 years and now live elsewhere in Thailand. For the last 15 years, whenever I am asked why I left Phuket, I answer "greed". There seems to be a mindset on the island which revolves entirely around greed. And Patong is at the heart of it.
I have been back twice since I left and my wife, who had never been there before, hated the place too. Doubt I will ever be back.

Some brilliant parody accounts on here. Enjoying this immensely.

Thanks for the reply. Will try to pop over for a look this afternoon.

19km run followed by a barbie and too many beers.

Does it advance a full page each time you click for next page? I know my Sony eReader will show (for instance) page 216, followed by page 216-217, and then page 217.

Is this still going?

There's a licensed shop next to the orphanage on Sukhumvit Road. Drop the Green Book in the morning and collect the following afternoon.

It was very kind of the BTS official to allow you to save face like this. I hope you thanked him.

I could tell you, but then I might have to come and shoot you all ....
(At least the admins have never made me change it.)

Could be Sensations Bar in Action Street off Soi Buakhao.
That's the one.
Then to answer the OP's question: I hear it's doing well with a regular clientele.
Cheers for that would probably make an interesting follow up programme considering how much the odds are stacked against making a success of it
Heard somewhere that a film crew is here right now doing a follow up to the original program. Filmed the "girls" from tha bar playing beach volleyball and I believe there may have been a day at the go-kart track too.

Another vote for Wattana - very good. Almost opposite Foodland if you're looking for them.

Correct. I suspect they are the original fittings; all the years the place was empty can't have helped either.
-
Probably replacing them - they were very old and temperamental and often didn't work.

Yes he is still around. Spoke to him on Monday. Highly recommended.

But he will also have to drink a lot of beer on the trails.
Not necessarily - I don't.
For the OP: I went out yesterday along highway 331, turned off into some farmland on a dirt trail and followed it for a while then parked the bike and walked up some narrow trails into the hills. It was wonderful. Very quiet and peaceful and I got some fantastic photos later of the sun going down over a temple on a distant hill. Easy to get out and find nice areas without going to designated national parks or reserves.

Join the Hash House Harriers - they know all the jungle trails and green areas around Pattaya.

Room for one more?

My first thought when reading this thread was, why do you care so much?
Perhaps because he uses the airline and they are cutting destinations that he needs, because of "expense".

I haven't made the slightest effort to learn Thai cooking, but before everyone jumps down my throat, my lady cooks the Thai food and I cook the farang food since we both eat either cuisine (we also eat out ... a lot).

So how about them Habs?
And so the exodus of quality expats begins. This time it's personal

Lived in Phuket for 22 years but eventually began to dislike the place. I had travelled all over Thailand during that time and spent a lot of time in Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, Ubon, Sisaket, Udon, Korat and Bangkok. Finally met the love of my life and now live in the city where she was born and all of her extended family still live (Pattaya). It too has its problems, but after 15 years, I still like it far better than Phuket. Recently went back for a visit to catch up with friends, but I will probably never go back again. Each to their own taste.
