GREAT JOB .... he deserves the re-elected position as he has worked hard.

Many farang may disagree but really who cares as it's for the people of Thailand and it's country not the whinging bitching farang who think thailand owes them a government of their likening and nobody else's. Simple ..if you don't like it in this country then go home. It's not your country, you are a guest, the same would apply in your home country and town so stop bitching and whining because nobody is listening.  Thailand is what it is and it is governed by Khun Prayuth Chan O Cha so like it or lump it ..that's what it is.  ????

In fact, we actually like this country and it's exactly why we are bitching about the election process etc., we care for it even though it's not our home country. So stop being judgmental because your judgment and reasoning is flawed

Indeed it is, you may know it as a GFCI, ELCB or one of a myriad of other acronyms dependent upon where in the world you originate. Generally in Thailand it's known as a "Safe-T-Cut" which is actually a brand name.

Do you have one? Look in your electrical panel for a breaker with a "Test" button, no test button = no RCD. Go and look now!

If you don't have one I strongly recommend that you get one installed, all the big box stores sell them and most will install for you too. It may well save your life as it probably would this poor chap.

That was really informative, logged in just to give thanks!

  3. Providing loans to farmers when they delay selling their rice due to low prices during the harvest season. Yeah, I'm living here and witnessing this happening - farmers holding on till prices rise to sell.

But <deleted> is wrong with them except that they are greedy as hell. Still thinking about earning money from loans instead of genuinely helping the farmers. The loans better not change interests than. What makes them think less-educated farmers manage their money well and know about default on loans etc. they'll just be more in debt!!!

hope karma strikes them with unaccountable number of loan defaults with no hope of recovery!!

My kids go to a Catholic run private school. I hate the school but it seems to be the best in the area so my missus has the final say. The school is just a front to make money, which it does in a few ways. As I say its a Catholic school but Christmas Day is a normal school day. I'm confused. I can't figure that out. They can have an unannounced days holiday if the teachers have a meeting but Xmas Day???

The complete set up is a money making scam. They seem to do nothing for the children they look after, other than take their money. Instead of teaching the kids about healthy eating, as an example, they do the opposite, and have nothing but unhealthy food on sale during break times. Three break-times, 800+ pupils, 20-30 Baht per break per day, no competition. They couldn't really give two hoots as to physical well being of the kids. But I see this as being across the board in Thai schools. Over weight kids everywhere. I could go on but...................

They do not allow dyed hair even during the Songkran build up, or afterwards. Right carry on.

You summarized what is indeed happening where I live.

All they care is about the money. The kids doesn't really learn anything from school from where I send them to. Yes, there are homework like writing numbers etc. but when I ask them what number they are writing, they have no idea. They're just being robots, writing means writing without understanding. I ended up giving extra "tuition" my buying flash cards at home to teach numbers...yes literally to recognize numbers from 1 to 10 at the age of 5/6yo...this is the quality of education we're getting.

The unannouced holidays are a thing as well. The teachers could just declare half day or a holiday because she has to attend a "'meeting" or needs to "go to the temple" etc. And the unhealthy eating encouragement is something that pisses me off the most. Encouraging kids to ask money from parents so that they can buy snack. I've never given the kids money but instead pack them healthy snacks (fruits etc) for quick snacks as the school provide lunch. However, they would come back and complain that their friends' parents had given their friends money but why not me...these parents imho, are spoiling their children coupled with the ridiculous school ethics

Sorry to hear you're experiencing that in a private school as well, I was considering putting them kids in a private school as well as they are currently in a public school but it seems that the situation does not differ much in neither public nor private schools...the head of the education ministry of the country should really be sacked if this continues...

not really an answer    i was interested in your dislike    does not involve my thoughts on the subject

Simply put, I find it worrying for the future generations.

why do you define this as a  problem ??

No offence but due to different cultural background I guess. Do you see children as young as 4-5 with dyed hairs etc. as appropriate?

Schools should inculcate discipline with neat haircuts, ironed uniform, fingernails trimmed etc. Overall to look smart as they are the walking embodiment of the schools they are in. Furthermore, I believe there is government regulation on coloured hairs since 1970s.

  7. Anyone has kids enrolled in schools in part of Isaan (more specifically for ages 5-12)? What are your thoughts about the schools in this region.

I've seen kids with dyed hairs walking around, kids as young as 5...where do you think this issue stems from? School or Home? I know there are restrictions/rules and dress codes for school...but why is this still a problem? I also know a kindergarten with teachers encouraging kids to bring money to school as the teachers themselves want to make a quick, small buck by selling snacks in class.

    Stories like this sell newspapers

Some people trying to create mischief

People in high places not aware, left hand not talking to right hand

Some people just like to bash for the sake of bashing

Take your pick of one or more, they are all correct.

Sounds similar to the situation in America right now. People believing everything they see instantly on the internet especially if the information comes from some celebrity they adore.

I prefer to hear both sides of a story and do some self-research.

Thank you for your wise explanations, chiang mai.

In this country, it's a big help if you can have even a beginner abilities

to read Thai, most importantly, learn to speak Thai, can't stress enough

how useful is to be able to communicate with the locals....

Yes, been travelling here very frequently and my current level of understanding of the language is at the stage where I'm still only able to understand bits and pieces of the words they say when they're having a conversation.

I'm hoping to move on to the next stage of speaking fluently and writing/reading, it'll certainly be so useful for me to communicate with the locals here on a business or personal purpose.

  10. I'm keen to learn how to write the Thai language and I have a few questions in mind:

    1. Is learning the Thai consonants a good starting point in learning to write Thai? I.e. Practice and remembering all 44 consonants before proceeding to the vowels.

    2. Is there a trick/tip for me to remember how to write Thai consonants? Or do I have to keep writing the same consonant repeatedly to remember them?

  11. Just an update.

i've gotten back the phone the next day after posting on facebook about the incident with screenshots of the conversation with the thief and her profile photos. The post had gotten around 150 shares where a few people got into contact with us with details about the culprit.

We agreed to meet with her friend but not the thief herself and the former returned the phone on the thief's behalf (apparently the thief said she was too embarassed to meet up)

    Well, all is well now!

How was she able upload selfies without knowing the pass key?

She managed to unlock the phone, but not the Apple ID. So she's unable to download new apps and such for now, she's able to use the phone in the most basic way I guess...or else she wouldn't be requesting for the password

  13. Hi everyone,

Yes, as you would've guessed by the topic name, got an iPhone stolen last year during the period of Loi Khratong.

Got it stolen a year ago, didn't report it to the police as we thought that it would be of no help anyway, thinking that it's hard to find the culprit with the crowd around us during the festival.

However, this thief has been messaging on Facebook periodically requesting for the Apple ID etc as we've managed to blocked the phone for usage by changing passwords etc.

I find the fact that a thief's asking for the password for the phone from someone she had actually stolen it from really amusing...

Do you think that reporting to the police now is of use at this stage? I mean I have her photos, details and such - this thief is really bold to use her real facebook account
