When my wife was about 42 or 43 we visited my family and friends in California. Every time we walked into a Thai restaurant she was offered a job! She was very amused by the fact that a woman who was 'over the hill' and unemployable in Thailand was viewed as an ideal potential employee in the US.
At 62, I am now the oldest person at my school, except for the owner and the director. We had a frank discussion about my age and continued employment a short while ago and fortunately (as my retirement plans seem to have not worked out the way I expected) they said they would ignore the retirement age (60) and would keep me there as long as I wished and could continue to do the job well.
There is no mandatory retirement age for falang esp at private schools

Yes. Banks are a classic case in point. You hardly ever see any staff working the counters who are much over 30. And they are nearly always of a certain standard of attractiveness.
But that's jr staff stuff here in Thailand. The only banks holding on to old maids in western countries have reason. Most have been phased out with technology. Thailand labor over intensive and unproductive

The Philippines is no place for a 90yo man.
Thailand is happy old geezers go home. Less potential downside of some Thai hospital picking up the medical tab.

Expats lived through the fall of HCMC and PNH, somehow I'll (we'll) manage.
I suspect if you stuck around Bangkok in 2010 while it burned you're not in much of a hurry either.

I love 7. Forever.
So off you go to Family Mart Jingthing. Enjoy.

The mall has beautiful women, Belgian beer, great food from all countries, automatic toilets, air conditioned comfort, entertainment, new electronic/sound stuff for my TV and computer and no schedules, healthy exercise. Pray tell what is the highlight of your week?
Getting a Thai middle class kid into a top international university.

The only time I'm out shopping with wife is outside the country. I loathe it.
Shoes, bags (sport not luxury) and jackets. Drives me crazy.

Dinosaur thread
I've never done a TEFL. It's not stopped me from making 100% more in five years than the first day I walked in a classroom.
What specialized information do you think you're going to get that not available online?
Each school and experience, each grade will be an entirely new experience with new demands.
I could never see the point in a TEFL. Especially at 50000b and you know those for 15k are utterly worthless.
Place yourself! Never work for an agency!

Just go to Savanakhet and get a one year. You'll need to leave every 90 days for first year. Bring all your cash over by month 9 (45x9). Apply for your extension.
You can spend it AFTER you get the extension stamped in your passport.

No need to hijack this topic about that though.
Back to Mayor Pete please.
This thread came up at the bottom of the page. Id commented on it and then noticed it was in the HAPPY forum which I respect as being a place where you people can go have a chat amongst yourselves. So I deleted my comment.
The correct term in proper English is homosexual denoting relations between those of the same gender.
Gay is code, a euphemism. Purely slang.
I deleted my comment directed at you JT actually. Because it's getting tiresome seeing your personal agenda being pressed everywhere on this forum. Everyone that doesn't agree with your opinion gets the report button. Identity politics amok.

He's not really running as a gay candidate. He is gay. He's open about it. He is definitely not stressing that. Of course, people will notice. There are bigots that would never vote for a gay presidential candidate but they are mostly from the other party. Any identity thing like that will have pros and cons electorally.
Recinding this opinion as it was actually posted to homosexual forum.

You shouldn't have a problem. Bring your passport and bank book to any branch. I doubt you'll need a police report, that's only for loss of bank book.
-
Unless this has changed, you absolutely get a receipt for 90 day reporting. Even generates online and I suggest you drop that agent and do it online. So easy, fast, free. You might not have been reported I fear.

As one PR resident told me years ago, what are they going to do? Can't kick me out.
-
I'm just honestly uncertain they will honor it. There's not much in this country you can trust Thais on for five years let alone twenty.
I don't feel the hostility many on TV accuse the government of but I do see the tendency toward authoritarianism which may develop into all sorts of issues. I do see a trend to push us out of the country through bureaucratic bs.
Once the decision has been made to screw you by voiding the visa, not renewing or adding some bs for you to renew, extend, transfer...they are master's at this crap.
So, if you are ok for paying 1m for five years and ok to walk away from it year six, maybe.
Then, ask yourself is it possible that ten years from now might you have had your fill? Given the direction of the nation, I'd say I'm personally done with it after a very long relationship with Thailand including marriage.
I don't think the Thais are trustworthy. There is no democratically elected government and grows like a mix of the Philippines and communist China by the week.
If nothing else, buy 5 more years and reevaluate.
Up to you.

So? Hurt feelings? What precisely are you planning to plead?
Let's take a step back. A huge margin of individuals never had the money and now looking to continue to skirt the law using agents.
Individuals are in this situation because it became farcical. I would have guessed it was done 7 years ago honestly.
Old men without insurance who live outside their country really should have 800k banked. It's not an unreasonable requirement. The new rules are tedious but again all there because of abuse.
I remember all the threads, the braggarts telling me what a cheap charlie was for not spending XX,000!! baht a month. What a loser. Truth is they struggle to live here and must spend this amount for their comforts. As a general monthly budget I'm spending like 25k and I'm paying all the rent and utilities for self and wife. Me...I'm back working. Why not, I got married. Only 5 more years
It's a low bar. Seriously. Stop complicating your life. Put the money in the bank. Go get an O visa, save for a year or move on.
I don't see a need for an article. Thais don't care and the cops care even less. Please don't start with your laughable contribution to the economy. Thank you.
The thing that kills me is why do you have to stay here other than than having a family? If I weren't married I'd be in a dozen countries.
BTW I've saved so much cash that we're going to Spain for a month. Trips, like every year. Savings + trips.
Sounds like personal spending problems and lack of money management.

Yes. Absolutely needed. 400k on the day with no withdrawals

In Bangkok, I was specifically asked for an updated KR2 whereas before I was actually told the first was only necessary.
With the money, are you stating that you had your marriage extension, past the 30day mark. I understand they called you back for KR2...but are you stating that they took you to task and may now deny your extension because you let your balance drop below 400k? Please clarify. Thx

So, for the full 12 months how would one go about getting a new passport, transferring stamps if need be and applying for a (marriage) extension? I'll copy and save this, thanks.
