Ezra, it was a man and a man. It seems quite likely they were out for a good time in a gay bar on New Year's Eve and things got out of control. Who knows what really happened?

That's a bit of of a leap in the dark. I wondered when the relevance of them being gay had anything to do with how some people react. It's not like there's loads of sometimes violent ladyboys in Thailand, is there?! Or that gay Thai men could possibly do such things?

Far too many presumptions being made - as usual.

Oh God - I am sick and tired of this unrelenting nationalistic propaganda.

Yes, we all know: Thailand is perfect. Thailand is the best place in the world. Thailand is uniquely beautiful. The Thais are a fun-filled, laughing and loving, loyal and sincere people. Thailand has discovered the cure for AIDS, cancer, heart disease, stroke ... on and on.

And Thais NEVER would dream of raping and murdering innocent tourists on their charming Thai islands - and pinning the blame on powerless Burmese servants.

Well done students: your film is at the cutting edge of questioning the country you live in. If as a student you tow the party line to this extent - what the hell are you going to be like when you are fifty?

Right! Fascism and Dictatorship are cool, cool, cool. Let's have more of it (say these wonderful, critically-thinking, prize-winning students). And Thailand can be the proud hub of all that wonderful political enlightenment and progress.

Yeah! Let's make some videos about how all the foreigners just love fascism and autocracy. Bring it on!

Very eloquently put! You should take up politics - but not here

I'm still a newbie, only a year here, but the recent 'passing' opened my eyes to the true Thailand.

There's a very good reason that this website isn't popularised overseas!

    ....

Very well explained. Even the person you responded to might understand this perspective. I can't believe people ask such a ridiculous question as 'who is the victim?' - there's a list which starts from where ever they were born.

More importantly and with the weight of responsibility are the onanists that run this country - they are the real perpetrators.

The Pattaya bar busts have always claimed that  the presence of unused condoms is proof of prostitution taking place. I mean, what else are they going to be used for?

Working in China, we had big issues with Chinese-made dynamite disintegrating when left too long in waterlogged shot holes. So we bought thousands of local condoms, wrapped the charges in them before loading the hole. They were good for at least 24-hours.

Unfortunately, the Chief Driller forgot to empty his bag properly before flying back to Oz to see his wife on R&R. The fact that the condoms she found were cavernous enough for the average schlong made his claims'Honest Narelle, they're for me job' a real hard sell.

We used to blow condoms up on our heads, even used them fishing for ground-baiting...

Oh, so Astana, Oskemen, Aktobe, Semey, Aktau, Pavlodar, Atyrau, Karaganda, Baikonur, Petropavl, Taldykorgan, Kokshetau, Kostanay, Taraz and Ekibastuz haven't got high-rises?   Really?

If you didn't see high-rises in Kazakhstan then you must have spent your time in the desert, every large town and city is full of them just like every town and city that was under Soviet administration.

Well said sir. Why do people say ridiculous things that they can't corroborate. While on that subject, when we use the term 'Muslims', I hope people do realise that there are approximately 73 fractions of Islam, a bit like Christianity, Judaism etc. They all have different rules so let's cut the 'they don't drink' etc. BTW, I am one.

Why not digital tachograph as we have in Europe since so many years ?

Do you not know that 'we' have been fixing tachys for years and they'll do the same. It's another pathetic attempt at letting people see that 'they' are doing something.

Here's an idea - why not tackle the reasons instead of the causes? Wish I'd thought of that.

Although I do support the death penalty  this is absurd Lets say someone does steal the prescribed  amount to qualify for the death penalty The leaves for the west

Do you really think they will extradite that individual if he is facing the death penalty for corruption.

    It will never happen

This is just a bad idea and to be truthful will not deter anyone

Because in civilised countries it is illegal to deport someone who faces torture or death. Guess which country doesn't have an exchange agreement with Europe or UK [we're almost out]?!

There's only one so called civilised country that still has the death penalty. Yep! You guessed it - Trumpland [a bit like Camberwick Green or Trumpton for you older people]. Hugh, Pew, Barney McGreen, Cuthbert, Dribble and Grub. Hahaha. Only in America!

Is this serious journalism? Have these people ever heard of the Internet? Do they know that opiates have been banned for years in the west? I wonder why? Do they give a flying toss about poor people or socio-economic issues? Are they more interested in lining their own pockets?

All rhetorical questions btw. Answers on a postcard to...[I can't say 'cos I'll be jailed, c/o nobody knows].

so a female gets herself rotten drunk, flirts with a guy and goes to a hotel with him to have sex, throws up, passes out then wakes up in the morning and cant remember sh*t because she drank so much, so she accuse the man of drugging  her and rape rather than simply lose face because of "who" she is.  Can remember when I was 19 and picked up a well stacked really good looking woman when I was very drunk and went home with her, when I woke up in the morning I was ready to chew my arm off rather than wake her up, if it had of been here I could have charged her with drugging me and rape, go figure

Ever considered a new job as Judge Pickles replacement for The Sun. You'd get my vote!

A couple of years back there was this TV show called "Deadwood" starring Ian Mcshane and Timothy Olyphant, depicting a town with corruption, drinking, a fair bit of "love" for sale and lawlessness all around.

I did have a chuckle at your analogy. Good series too. Far more entertaining than here.

I believe Thailand already has some of the slowest Internet connection speeds in the ASEAN region. Watch companies move if it is controlled and worsens!

  12. Wow, just read all 5 pages. One common thread I noticed is the 'it's not her fault - commenter' that doesn't at all blame the victim 'BUT'...  It reminds me of a bigot saying 'I'm not racist but...'

No blame, even remotely [clothes, a lift, alcohol - what plant are you people on?] can be attached to the victim here, or in any case like this. I really hope and I'm pretty sure, that she [the victim] won't be reading this page.  How many of you PC warriors would say what you have to her face? How many of you would lay the same criticisms on your mother, sister or wife?

  13. Considering the number of English 'teachers' in Thailand, I'm amazed at many of the responses here and can only conclude that most of them don't have a clue what they are talking about [apart from Shawn0000 who is the sage, nay font of all knowledge]. This assertion is supported by the fact [see that Shawn? A fact] that salaries here have not increased for a decade. Standards have diminished - look at the tables - and Shawn is here.

Japan used to be the worst, due to the high grammar content in schools and lack of speaking practice. Thailand, however, has carried the mantle and is now in the relegation zone because ... I can't be bothered.

    Ask Shawn he's always right.

You seem confused between unofficial and official dialect.  Official dialects are versions of a language prescribed by a dictionary, as in British English, American English and Indian English.  All are common in their grammar and differ in their content words and so not necessarily mutually intelligible on all levels.  There is no standard version of English, there are several.  Understand now?

You are quite incredible and yet again wrong.

Years ago, I worked at one of the most prestigious school in the country as they were setting up their English Program.

Taksin's daughters were there at the time. I taught next to a Cockney who left school at 15. one day he asked me how to spell "sugar". As it happened, as soon as he got his WP, he left and did some work for the Thai mafia. Diamond Geezer and one of the few Cockneys who I actually believed did know the Krays.

He must have been old. haha The Stock Exchange in London used to be run by 'barrow boys' [you'll know what they were]. Nowt wrong with leaving school at 15 - ask Lord Sugar [ or was that an intended pun?].
